And some more pics.....................
The engine is built and added to the floorpan...............
The wheels are painted, the tyres are fitted and added to the axles....................
The exhaust is attached in five places on the sprue and breaks at the thinnest point. I've also added a piece of alloy tube to the end of the silencer.
I shall perhaps have to add a piece into the exhaust if the broken join isn't sufficient!
Some more tomorrow hopefully.......
Thanks hemi. Yes I love beach buggies as well. I was looking at a 1:1 Manx that's made here under licence, if I only had the cash I'd have a real one!
-
Yes another beach/dune buggy to go with my five Meyers Manx , an Empi Imp and Airfix Bugle Buggy..................
As I've just finished the Bugle Buggy in Orange I've chosen Yellow for this one.......................
As this one was used I'll have to do some remedial work to that 'bitten' edge.................
When adding the top and bottom parts of the body the rough edge is very noticable, so a bit of filler is added.
As I wanted the interior and the floorpan all in satin black I built the whole thing then added the colour................
Some more pics to come......................

Here we are, the last three pics on this one..................................
-
Right here we are again.....
I've been very careful painting the new shell from the second kit. When test fitting the body to the floorpan the arches were touching the tyres so I had to trim up very thin strips of Plasticard and stick around the edge of the floorpan to lift the body.
Second test fit worked and painted the edge of the card with matt black and attach the body.....
All I have to do is fit the lights and number plates to finish it off.

Yes I've seen them in Japan. They have no problem getting around and are very popular with the 'young set' who are always looking at new ways to modify/customize to be a bit different.
Anyway from our point of view were just building models and anything new like add on bodywork /wheel arches etc are a help, although I tend to scatchbuild if there's anything that I can't buy already.

I have an AMT Competitions parts pack and recently built the Allison engine and built an installed the Corvair 6 in my Meyers Manx 4X4 as seen in the 'Under Glass' section of this website.
Superb packs, good detailing and easy to put together!
-
Wow, I'm getting one or two of these. Ray Mallock's race workshops are about 20 miles from me in Northamptonshire were they have built, tested and perfected the Cruze for racing and Robb Huff, an aquantance is an ex-WTCC World Champion in these cars. (the closest car in the picture above)
A superb race car for the World stage and a superb looking kit with plenty of racing detail.
-
I've just bought one of these kits. We have hundreds of 2cv's here in the UK, someone nearby has put a 1600cc beetle engine in the front, but he's also uprated the brakes thank god!
Also a near neighbour who owns Racelogic(the inventors and suppliers of electronic paddle shifting for race and sportscars) races one of these on a regular basis and recently came close the winning their own version of the Le Mans 24 hours but for 2cv's....
I hope to start my 2cv van soon, but am tied up building Manx & Bugle beach buggies at present ( Under Glass - Manx 4X4)
-
Well Shate4fun, I've built quite a few of these but that paint is just superb!
-
Yes Wayne, I'm into scratchbuilding and what they call kit bashing. See my Manx 4X4 in the 'Under Glass section of this site, where I used three kits and a Flintstone resin body of a Meyers Manx.
-
A repreive, a lifeline.
I've just won an ebay auction battle with a few others and got another kit! I'm also very glad it wasn't as expensive as the other one that went last week for £77!
So I need to wait for that to arrive next week.
Then the bodies will have a WARM soapy (not BLAZING HOT you twerp!) wash and rinse. Warm the Acrylic rattle can in HOT water, taes and go.
I shall keep the wrecked shell for a possible diorama.
As I will have another complete engine, gearbox and full rolling chassis I have invested in a new resin slotcar body in 1/32nd scale.
A chap in the UK makes various slotcar bodies with lexan windows and interiors. I won't of course need the interior.
It's a 1970's Porsche 914 race/rally shell with wide arches...
So as he makes them I need to wait a week or two, taking into consideration the other orders he has.
As the Porsche was mid-engined so needs the engine-gearbox unit turned round, that will be all in a new thread I suppose.

Super build Edward, just as I remember them. Yes as the guys said before you must have knocked the mirror off when you swiped that tree back there!
-
Thanks everyone. Yes rsxse240 I've always fancied one of those!
I was at our biggest VW aircooled show last year and saw not only 'Things' but also rebuilt Fridolins, they were Swiss Postal vans on VW aircooled chassis similar to the VW Camper Bus, with sliding side doors for the driver.
-
Cheers Kevin, I'm keeping my fingers crossed 'til tomorrow to try and win the one on ebayUK.
-
Thanks guys but this build seems to be over!
The old addage 'you learn something new each day' has come to bite me big time!
I was too in need for paint perfection and wanted to repaint the shell due to the Orange Peel effect on the Orange paint on the bodyshell.
So I went into my garage first thing and got a tin of brake fluid, this is what I used on numerous occasions to remove paint.
Yes after about an hour the paint just brushed off enough for me to repaint.
Unfortunately the soapy water was just too hot to wash off the brake fluid, the results are shown below......................
I have found just one kit of the Airfix Bugle (used) on ebay (here in the UK) but I'm not too optimistic as the last one sold for nearly £80!
As a pensioner that's way out of my price range.
So otherwise it's game over!
-
Thanks Brizio, yes there is some good detail in these small kits and remembering this is from the 1970's!
Anyway I've been able to do a little more this evening in building the wheels and tyres (tyres are plastic and therefore two halves to each one)and hang them on the axles. That's the positive side...................
But on the negative side if you look closely at the Orange paint it has Orange peel! No pun intended. It's OK on the sides but has the rough surface on the bonnet and boot area's!
So I've turned the heating on in my little cabin, but only a little (to help harden the surface) so that in the morning I can assess whether it's going to all come off or I can rescue it with careful rubbing out, either way a busy day out there!
-
Thanks Jonathan, yes a little smaller than my norm but why not!
Two pics from today's work..............
Chassis done and...........
As it's hot today in the UK the second coat of gloss Orange has dried and the first coat of clear has gone on.
Hopefully that will be OK tomorrow so that I can do some more.
-
A few more...............
Wheels painted
Starting to paint the engine..................
The Black gloss painted front axle assembly, with steering gear, shocks and twin nerf bars..................
At the moment the gearbox is being painted silver, and the body, dash and rear windscreen surround and second coat of gloss Orange.
So just waiting for those to dry, back soon.
-
Here's a few more pics..............
So that's the seats, storage cover, steering wheel painted And the body and floorpan.
A few more pics to come...........
-
Here is my latest buggy build..............
As you can see it's a bit ER small!
-
Thanks Harry & Jairus.
With reference to my other comments, I really have found two Porsche kits to build. I bought them from the cabin to the kitchen and gave them both a good wash and rinse ready to start.
But when I went back into the cabin I came across this, yes it's another beach buggy! It's an Airfix 1970's kit of the Bugle Buggy in 1/32nd scale.
And I know I'm just a weak human, because I've started to bulid it!
Yes your right it's one of the 'BIG' kits, that we are so fond of, well I am anyway!
So I'll see you on another thread very soon!
-
Thanks Scott, now I want to build a real one! Er I don't think so!
-
Thanks guys with super positive feedback!
I get a thousand times more satisfaction in putting together something like this where you've got to use a great a lot of the grey cells (although I might only have a few left), rather than a standard out of the box build where the instructions tell you what to do.
Bob I've just added to your comments (on the other site). I have a self coloured Manx kit that I bought late last year from ebay USA and had it shipped over the pond. With that I suppose a minimum amount of painting is needed, so the tyres, steering wheel rim and seat fronts could do with satin / matt black paint and wiring the plugs will do.
I think now though I'd better do some standard builds again. My son's have bought various Porsche kits for me over the years for Christmas, birthday and Fathers day and more recently a 1/16 scale Citroen 19 DS (Heller) so I'll start on some of those.

Thanks guys! Yes I have an engine shot, after I added the alloy torque tube to join the front and rear 4X4 drive. I routed the exhaust over the top of the engine and scratch built the exhaust silencer.
It keeps the exhaust out of harms way over the rough.
I had to cut slots in the inner part of the bodywork to get the exhaust through at high level, because as you can see the four wheel drive there is little space to route the exhaust any other way as the normal VW exhaust would normally be below rather than above the engine..
one of my VW turbo conversions shows a low exhaust system.............

Thanks guys, yes mnwildpunk it is the infamous VW flat four on twin choke Webers!
