  1. Tamiya Black Rubber Spray Good stuff, even feels like rubber.
  2. Wow! Who would've thought Dodge wheels would look so good on a Mustang Great model!
  3. I might use the same paint combo, I've also had no problem w/Testors lacquer clear over their enamel. I might lighten it up a bit, IIRC the Testors color is really dark. As for the engine-turned effect, in scale it would be barely noticeable. But if anyone knows how to replicate it without much difficulty, I'm all ears! This spring I saw what looked like a new Bullitt, but up close (and only briefly, car was moving) I noticed several things...bigger wheels painted titanium with very wide tires, very low stance, a different hood (more like concept Mustang, with rear-facing ducts), taillight panel had no center emblem, no spoiler, color was a shade closer to olive green than Bullitt...it sounded spectacular. Very stealthy, probably faster than a Super Snake. If I could get a better look at the car I'd probably build my Bullitt like it. Check my Fotki to see the KR almost finished. Still have to do the cold air intake. Fun kit, looks good after new tires and lowering. I hate stripe decals, I could have painted them faster.
  4. You want an anvil or a scalpel to do the same job? Choosing between two cars that are so vastly different from each other is not easy. I can't make that decision for you! It really depends on what you need from a driver on a day to day basis, and what you want. The Challenger may be new and cool, but the downside is it's a huge/heavy car and it will suck back gasoline at a prodigious rate. Soon the newness will wear off and it won't be as special. The V8 soundtrack might be enough to make you take less notice about the cheesy interior. But the cheesy interior will hold four in very good comfort, and it has a big trunk. Chrysler may not survive, the car could be an orphan very soon... The Porsche is a totally different class of car. The performance will be amazing, they're also very comfortable cars but only for two (very small kids/dogs are about all one could humanely put in the back seat). Handling/steering will be sharp and natural, acceleration will easily match the Challenger. Maintenance will be expensive, later model Carreras are known to be very reliable; Porsches will go the distance and rack up plenty of mileage as good as anything, but service/parts prices can be sobering, especially if you don't do your own work. A friend had an '80's Carrera that looked great, and found out it was his daily driver for years with well over 200K miles, bought it from a brother in law and he did his own maintenance/repairs. Anvil or scalpel?
  5. I like 'em, even though I trounced a new stock '82 Z28 in CA w/my old Mazda RX4, but that's another story No love? Probably because they're not old enough yet to be a "classic", not new enough to be a hot street setup w/easily found parts like the later model cars. They'll emerge from limbo when they start going for big $$ on Barrett Jackson.
  6. I dunno, but rumour has it a lorry just unloaded a bundle of wicker, a basket weaving how-to book (from Amazon.com), and boxfuls of needlepoint supplies at the Wingrove Manor
  7. Was that a blood-curdling scream I heard from across the ocean coming from the home of Gerald Wingrove??
  8. I can also vouch for the SEL wheels; I have a set that I will use on my '68 Firebird. Very nice wheels.
  9. Fantastic build! Nice work
  10. I got mine over the weekend, was a bit surprised to see the "old" GT body, but in retrospect it's correct. The Shelby bodies are all-new. The cold air intake is different than the one in the GT-H kit. Anyone who has superglue/kicker and sanding/polishing sticks (or wet/dry sandpaper and sanding block) can fill those decklid holes by gluing in the plugs and sanding/polishing the decklid smooth in a couple minutes.
  11. The Corvette is being released in the spring, hopefully the Trans Am will come later in the year. They are both far superior to what has been available before, and a good step up from the earlier Mustangs that are a bit more crude. My only gripe with the Trans Am is the lack of Trans Am markings and the completely undetailed tire sidewalls. I have one of the Rte. 66 Corvette kits; I hope Revell flashes over the luggage rack holes on the decklid, but it decimates AMT's sorry '62. I worry that the thick wall section in the front of the model might result in some sink marks not evident on the diecast.
  12. Nice work on a turd of a kit; the AMT '62 has always suffered from overly small headlights not to mention the fact it's an ancient kit with minimal detail. I love it when a simple approach on a sketchy kit turns out such a great model! I envision a similar project on Revell's upcoming (formerly diecast) '62 that's a far better kit than AMT's. That will be an excellent time to finally retire the old AMT '62 and put it out to pasture.
  13. Aha, the attack of the killer "options" button (in the line above the subject title). If that gets changed from "standard", it will do weird things to the forum outline and make you have to open each reply. It's a mind "fornicate" the first time it happens
  14. Who, me? You obviously don't know me very well ADD, CRS, and burdened w/my Dad's twisted sense of humor
  15. Well...I got my November Model Cars already but my Feb subscription copy of Scale Auto hasn't gotten here. I got my author's copy last Monday, but I don't know exactly what date it arrived as I was out of town for a week for the holiday.
  16. Thanks for the clarification! There are a lot of people that say the last beautiful Ferrari was the F355, and I can see where they are coming from. I didn't like the 360 Modena until I saw it in person, then I immediately loved it; my only lingering beef with it are the uninspired headlight units. Hated the 612, mostly because I had seen a CG that looked so real and so good that the production car was a big letdown. Over time I've warmed to it. The car certainly has a presence, and in the right colors is a knockout. It's aged well, newer versions w/the Sessanta package and the monolithic Challenge rims look much better and more complete than the earlier versions. Still shocking to see how big the car is in person. The F430 is okay, but seems like it took the Scuderia for me to really appreciate it. The 599 bugged me to no end at first, those pentagram wheels, the side vent, and the rear pillars just bothered me. Over time I've come to love certain variations on the car; the monolithic BBS wheels, the right color, and it's stunning. I even begrudgingly have accepted the pentagram wheels. There have been some tragicly awful colors/color schemes done for these cars too. I do appreciate it's subtle homage to one of my favorite cars, the 275 GTB. I'm going to build a 599 and 275 in the same color scheme and display them together. Ken Okuyama wasn't with Pininfarina all that long; 2004-2006. Pininfarina is having terrible financial difficulties today. I would love a return to Ferrari design where there was true beauty in everything they did. The California Spider is a very unfortunate design, for sure. From the A pillars forward it's fine. The rest is a mess. And the whole concept is so un-Ferrari; going after a market that's really not their core...a market well covered by others.
  17. Awesome as usual! Someone's been a lot busier and more productive than me over the holidays! What are the chances we'll see this one done by Jimmy?
  18. I wanna build this one too! I have the older (black/gray box w/photos) issue, and seeing the pics of the real car and the Bordinat Cobra, I want to build both. I'm glad this kit is getting reissued; IIRC it's a better Cobra 289 chassis than AMT's. I saw the car at the Peterson museum in the 90's, it was plain red back then. I'm sure it's a repaint and earlier it wore a candy paint job. I'd be inclined to paint it something unique. The lines on this car are pure sex
  19. Nice! I need to get one of these kits...sure looks great built
  20. I feel for you Jim; and also for David Morton who built the Pacer pickup on page 44 that was attributed to Rick Hanmore, and also to Tom Nungester whose '49 Mercury on page 46 was attributed to a Sam Smith in Scale Auto (the description just didn't fit the model). All I can say is that must have been one heck of a party in Toledo when both editors got momentary amnesia
  21. Mine arrived today and it looks clean and pristine as if the guys in the post office totally forgot to read it
  22. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Sometimes the wheel is the "male" part, and the polycap is in the suspension hub, sometimes the wheel is "female" and the poly cap is in the wheel. If they don't fit, you look at how both kinds are made, and make the necessary modifications. You need a Dremel tool w/the right kind of cutting tools, plastic tubing and plastic rod, and some ingenuity. Once you've modified dissimilar wheels to fit a particular model, the process gets easier. One way or another you need a pin and a receiver.
  23. Who, me? Yeah, red is horrid on it . I've yet to see any wheels that look good on it. What's really a *kicker* (rhymes with miss her) is the Cali Spider shares the same basic platform/engine with two much more attractive cars, the Maserati Gran Turismo and Alfa 8C Competizione. We get a model of the Cali. It's just not fair!
  24. I ended up trading a few kits I wasn't going to build to finally get a Corrado. I thought they were too expensive when they came out (IIRC they were $45 retail way back then), and I figured I'd pick one up cheap somewhere...never happened! They go for stupid $$ on Feebay. It's a shame, but from what I'm told the tooling inserts they have are pretty much useless w/o the molding machines they were made for. Corrados are cool, but probably not worth spending any new tooling money on.
  25. I haven't seen one in person but I've heard raves about the kit. One thing to beware of, some people have witnessed the soft parts (tracks) tend to leave tire marks on plastic...just like the "good old days".
