1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
GoatGuy replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Sorry Brad, I've got to disagree.......check one of the pics I recently uploaded of Bruce Larson's Camaro USA-1 and you'll see his plate looks about the same thickness and has holes in it to lighten the car. Granted, it's a Rat motor and might not have the hp of the hemi, but still had enough to unleash itself from the frame, you would think with a plate of that thickness. -
As requested, here are very recent photos of Bruce Larson's Corvette Funny Car and the Tommy Ivo/Honest Charley dragster that he is restoring. Notice the Vette's engine has dual magnetos but one plug per cylinder. Bruce said this is a rare setup. The Ivo dragster is awaiting a couple of parts for the front that are in the paint shop.

Terry- I will post the other photos in the 1:1 Reference forum.

I'll call him and ask.

I had the opportunity to spend 2 and a half hours at Bruce Larson's barn taking pictures of some of his drag cars. A very hospitable, terrific guy. He said he recently contacted a model company about reissuing a kit of his USA-1 Camaro funny car and is waiting to hear back from them. I say we make our voice heard to the powers that be about reissuing the Camaro kit. It is one of the first funny cars to hit 200 mph. Here are some of the pictures I took. He is finishing a restoration of Tommy Ivo's Honest Charley dragster which is headed to Mecum Auction May 19 in Indy. I can post those pictures if someone is interested. I also got extensive pictures of his Sentry Olds funny car from 1989. I'm sure many of you have built the kit of this car. AND a couple pics of his Corvette funny car which has dual magnetos but one plug per cylinder.

Great job. This one is on my list to do and gathering dust in the closet. I hope mine turns out as well as yours did.

Looks great Niko. Looking forward to more of your posts. I see snow in the pics. I mowed the yard today after work. I really enjoy seeing cars done by guys in other parts of the world.

Great job so far. I've got to try a Pro Mod once I get these two funny cars and two pro stocks done. -
Does spray paint ever go bad?
GoatGuy replied to Action Jackson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow. You're lucky. My experience is that the can will lose pressure over time, trapping any leftover paint. I have never tried to extract paint from a "dead" can, but I'd like to. -
Anyone have any dimensions for a Liberty Shifter?

I'm checking a source today. Hopefully he has one left over from his Pro Stock days, which was two years ago. -
Great video Ted. I'll try it sometime. Looking forward to seeing what you use on the headers for the sensors.

Thanks for sharing all those schematics Mike. I learned a lot.

What do you use to bend the ss tubing? They look great.

Looks great. I'm almost sad that it's this close to being done, but I'm sure you will share more of your builds. -
Can't wait to see more. I appreciate all the info shared on here. I'll have to build a Pro Mod sometime.
-
Looks great so far. What size tubing did you use on the wheelie bars? Enjoyed the video you made about the magnetos.

Just read an article on the NHRA site. He'll be missed.
