Yup. Or even plain old 1-part lacquer clear. That's the safest way to handle metallics or pearls that blush, too. No chance of getting blotches from overly aggressive sanding or polishing disturbing / unevenly uncovering the metallic particles.

That is really nice. Makes me want to build something like it in 1/87 (HO) scale, maybe using an old truck cab to backdate the look to something that could have been cobbled up in the late '50s. Inspirational.
