Popcorn wagon feasible?
Ace-Garageguy replied to gotnitro?'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
By Romeo Palamedes IIRC, founder of American Racing (wheels), and if I remember right, made its first appearance on a drag boat. And yes, it began life as a serious, functional setup, not a silly attempt just to look different. AND...one shining example of a concept car that had stunning looks as well as performance (and was successfully raced) was Chevrolet's XP-87. -

Popcorn wagon feasible?

Of course, we all knew the omission of functionality of concept cars by manufacturers was not because of technical ineptitude or ignorance. Can't always say that about showcars though...no matter what decade they're from...and definitely not about huge-wheel cars or insane camber. ? -
Children can be tasty afternoon treats for lions.

I disagree. I think it's simply about "functional vehicle" vs "static display piece"...or anything that ignores real-world 1+1=2 vehicle dynamics, like donks, wildly extreme camber, etc. Kinda sorta like the little sub that was built without regard for the realities of correct design and engineering of composite structures.. But I say it's not an "old man shouting at clouds" thing because, when I was much younger, I was always disappointed when I found out some cool looking showcar had no guts in the engine, or some other mechanical deficiency that rendered it completely inoperative. And much as I really liked the looks of Ed Roth's creations, some, in particular the Mysterion, were poorly engineered. The Mysterion is reputed to have suffered a frame rail failure while being unloaded from its trailer. Pretty lame. -
Yup.

Cats share something like 95% of their DNA with lions.

Honestly, that was the main thing that bothered me about the whole rat-rod hysteria too...not the style so much as the uselessness. So many of them were so poorly engineered and built as to be undrivable, other than on and off the trailer. It takes a lot more talent, skill, and effort to make kinetic sculpture that functions well than it does to pile together a bunch of basically static stuff just to get a reaction. -
It's really beautiful there, Ray. I feel Az. is my home now, even though I'm stuck in the swampeast for at least a couple more months. I sure do enjoy seeing the pix you post, even though where I am up north doesn't look much like where you are.

Boredom is something I very rarely (if ever) experience, being too busy juggling responsibilities and recreational pursuits.

Compound supercharging can actually work, but it takes a little more magic than just stacking one on top of another. -
As I get closer to my personal end-of-days, the old phrase "so many women, so little time" takes on a whole new meaning.

The plan for using the glooey centers from the old Cobra kit worked a treat. Photos as soon as I do a photo-dump to the other computer, maybe in a week or so. What I came up with is nowhere near as nice as printed or hand-laced wires, or even PE centers, but considering all I want from this build is a pretty curbside that 'looks right', without getting into the kind of complication I usually get bogged down in, they'll be just fine.

Not to be too pedantic, but I strongly recommend reading the SDS for any product prior to speculating on the internet, where everything is rebleated infinitely, whether it's factual or not. The SDS (SAFETY DATA SHEETS) for just about everything even remotely hazardous are readily available online. The specific hazards, types of testing done to identify them, etc. etc. are fully examined here. RE: Bondo Professional (2-part) https://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawebserver?mwsId=SSSSSuUn_zu8l00xM8tGMYtSPv70k17zHvu9lxtD7SSSSSS-- EDIT: I've worked with catalyzed polyester resins, fillers, and epoxies (as well as all manner of paint products) for well over 5 decades, using reasonable PPE, good ventilation, and common sense, and have suffered zero ill effects. Read the SDS info, read the instructions (TDS: technical data sheets), pay attention, use common sense, be careful.

Electromotive looks like they may be down for the count. Annoying because an old client's car is equipped with one of their engine management systems, it's failed, it looks like he's going to have to switch to something else, and I don't have time to get involved in another project if I'm going to get on with my own life. Ten years back when the car was built, there were several fairly local shops that could have dealt with reengineering the electronics for his twin-turbo setup, but today I don't know of one.
