  1. "Shock and awe" got replaced with disorganization and platitudes.
  2. For any grown-ups who appreciate animation, I'd heartily recommend Studio Ghibli's "Porco Rosso". I first came across it on late-night cable at a hotel back around 2005, and was blown away. With a beautiful score by Joe Hisaishi, it's one of my all-time favorite films. From Wikipee: "Porco Rosso (Japanese: 紅の豚, Hepburn: Kurenai no Buta, lit. 'Crimson Pig') is a 1992 Japanese animated adventure-fantasy film[1] written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It is based on Hikōtei Jidai ("The Age of the Flying Boat"), a three-part 1989 watercolor manga by Miyazaki.[2] It stars the voices of Shūichirō Moriyama, Tokiko Kato, Akemi Okamura and Akio Ōtsuka. Animated by Studio Ghibli for Tokuma Shoten, Japan Airlines and the Nippon Television Network, it was produced by Toshio Suzuki and distributed by Toho. Its score is by Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi. The plot revolves around an Italian World War I ex-fighter ace, now living as a freelance bounty hunter chasing "air pirates" in the Adriatic Sea. However, an unusual curse has transformed him into an anthropomorphic pig. Once called Marco Pagot (Marco Rossolini in the American version), he is now known to the world as "Porco Rosso", Italian for "Red Pig" or "Red Pork". A first English-dubbed version was made for Japan Airlines and included in the Ghibli LD Box Set and on the first Region 2 DVD releases in 2002. The film was later redubbed by Walt Disney Home Entertainment and released on DVD and Blu-ray in the United States and Canada on February 22, 2005. GKIDS re-issued the film on Blu-ray and DVD on November 21, 2017, under a new deal with Studio Ghibli."
  3. Always a pleasure and an inspiration to see your uber-clean craftsmanship.
  4. The model shown above is based on this 1/25 scale kit from AMT, that's been reissued in several different boxings, not all of which are shown below. Decals available here: https://smpdecals.com/shop/ols/products/scotto-blivens-1955-nomad-nhra-record-holder
  5. Great looking model. Thanks to whomever for bringing the thread back up. I really miss this class of racing too.
  6. Kicker down the road if she comes in at 09:00 after a night out "with the girls".
  7. Which advocates even more for the wood-chipper/buried alive punishment as a deterrent to those contemplating a similar crime. My shop was hit in '77, I was under-insured, and I had to work for other people for years to get back to where I'd been. Until you've lived through it, you probably don't really understand how it feels.
  8. Ya spose there might be some financial reward? Nah, that could never happen.
  9. "Time is flowing like a river to the sea" according to Alan Parsons.
  10. Cool cool cool. I'm trying to overcome my lust for a few of those. If I fail, I'll PM ya.
  11. Two more recent acquisitions, a coupla Corvairs, one complete 2dr Styline kit assembled clean with minimal gloo, and a virgin 4dr.
  12. "Right of way" and who has it is something a declining number of drivers seem to grasp.
  13. Days are getting shorter.
  14. I don't use it very often, but my Unimat lathe has become indispensable for making or modifying small parts, as it converts to a vertical mill too. It doesn't have much power, but with patience and care, its several speeds mean it can be used to create just about anything a modeler could want, in almost any material. Unimats of this design were made in Austria from the early 1950s through the '70s and sold by the thousands all over the wotld. The quality is excellent, there are still parts being made for it (like urethane drive belts), parts and accessories seem to be readily available, and there's a substantial global network of enthusiasts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1Y1nkr6v2M&ab_channel=SteamerEdge
  15. Tasty is as tasty does.
  16. Them flyin' cats can be deadly, but not as bad as flyin' monkeys or flyin' elephants bombin' ya...if y'all get my drift...and don't even get me started on them flyin' pigs.
  17. Fan-punkin'-tastic.
  18. "Without sin, let he who is cast the first stone" or something like that.
  19. Finally got around to seeing Battlefield Earth. More plot holes than a sieve, and technical gaffes most 5-year-olds would catch, but it has its moments. Travolta really should have busted a couple moves from Saturday Night Fever in his alien costume though. Then there would have been no doubt the whole thing was a joke.
  20. VERY nice. Man, every time I think I have every kit I could ever want, along comes a beautiful build like this, and I just have to have one. Thanks for the inspiration.
  21. Looks GREAT. Funny...I just read one of our resident whatevers calling everything MPC "trash". Looks like you've pretty well proven that to be horse exhaust.
  22. Some time back I snagged a Modelhaus '57 Mercury Monterey hardtop... ...specifically to build the 180mph Mermaid: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=6535
  23. Stage a rebellion against stupid: join one of the online learning sites and take a course in something new.
  24. Kewl build. One of my favorite cars from the era. Sorry to see the warp and divot. I have two kits from the dawn of time that aren't like that.
