Exactly, and entirely self-evident to anyone who understands the injection molding process (or even open-molding or casting and stamping processes in a variety of industries) and anything about tool design for same. The idea of using the "steps" as guides for cutting grooves, then filing away the wedge shape, is a good one too (exactly what I was going to suggest ). Tooling COULD be done to more accurately represent multiple belts (with grooves), but would require a sliding section...probably cost-prohibitive for a single part. That would also result in a parting line on the "belt' surface (perpendicular to the long dimension), subject to flash (and complaints from builders).

Yes to all the above. When somebody actually sues for dumping hot coffee in their OWN lap, it's getting pretty pathetic. There was actually a lawsuit brought against a well-known lawnmower manufacturer by a fool who picked up his machine, while it was running, and tried to use it as a hedge trimmer...with predictable results. How anyone could take a moron of that magnitude into court and represent him with a straight face still eludes my comprehension. Oh...sorry....I forgot. $$$$$$$$$

Take just about any early '60s car...a gluebomb Merc would be good...section it by 4" or so, move the front wheels WAY back, move the windshield forward, take a section out of the roof to make it only a two-seater, slap on some fins, remove the decklid and carve a "nuclear engine cover" out of a modified Cord hood, and stick a big ol' 1/8 scale hubcap on the top of it.

Love the concept. Always a fan of "what if?" builds that try to reflect historical technical accuracy for the most part. Your crank-driven centrifugal blower would certainly work, and would be a much better setup than some of the real Mickey Mouse drives that were actually used. The finning on your inlet plenum looks good too. I'll be following.

Then there's always panel-deliveries made from FWD econoboxes... ...or 4WD... ...or anything horrible inspired by the LeMons cars...

This is a full-scale system I did on a Chrysler 354 (old-style Hemi) in a '33 Plymouth chassis. The engine management system is by FAST, and the 2-barrel Weber-look throttle bodies, manifold and fuel rails are by Imagine. You could use Weber IDA downdrafts (like on a Cobra) to get this look. The Hilborn injection on the Accurate Miniatures 1/24 McLarens is also a possibility for ultra-high-performance on the street. Though the vintage racing-only system in the kit is purely mechanical, an electronic version that looks very similar is available today from Hilborn.

Pretty cool. What great fun it would be to routinely smoke fart-can-equipped ricers in what looks for all the world like a stock and stodgy Model A. Special anti-wadded-underwear disclaimer: I LIKE well turned out and fast Asian imports. What I jokingly refer to as "ricers" are the automatic-trans-equipped 4-door slowmobiles with flapping body kits and exhausts that go blaaaaaaa-blaaaaa-blaa. Always good sport around here to shut them down with a 3-cylinder Geo Metro.

Is it just me, or has the site slowed down again?
Ace-Garageguy replied to russosborne's topic in How To Use This Board
Yes, I've been in the habit of doing that...usually...after having rather a lot of sites "time out" and dump a well-considered response over the years. Never had it happen on this one before though, and I've been here since about 2012 or so. It's good advice for anyone posting anything to the web where actual thought is involved. -
I have a few original designs that don't really fit into any easily pigeonholed genre...like this, for instance...

Future Polish Uncertainty

Just remember that the Duplicolor product is a LACQUER, suspended in LACQUER THINNER, and as such, it WILL attack and craze less solvent-resistant finishes (like enamel) and substrates. To the best of my knowledge, the floor-wax "acrylic" clear products can be used over just about anything with impunity. Not so with lacquer clears...especially those designed with 1:1 vehicle finishes (like Duplicolor) in mind...so TEST before you commit to using it over a particular finish on a model. I know this may seem to be obvious, but we see a lot of people having problems here simply because they just started spraying something without testing it first. -

That's a beauty. I think the stacked-quad-headlight Pontiacs with the "coke-bottle" profile were some of the best looking cars GM ever produced. -

Most of my cars over the years were bought as wrecks or restorable or with some sort of major problem. Though they almost all went on to find good homes after being repaired or at least partially restored, and most at a reasonable profit for me, if I'd been able to keep them all in storage and sell them off NOW, I'd be able to retire quite comfortably. As it is, I'll be doing good to be able to afford to finish up the ones I WAS able to hang on to. -

Back in the early '60s, Jersey-shore high-school surfer kids used "wicked" much as "awesome" is used today, but less frequently. Something had to be pretty freakin' cool to rate a "wicked!". "Wicked awesome" must be truly awesome indeed. -

Guy I know in 2005 found a two-owner '62 triple-red Impala 409 4-speed car for $2500. Kid who owned it was killed in SE Asia in the late '60s, it sat in the family's carport, covered, since then. -

...and then the one's I just missed by a day or two, or was momentarily slightly short of funds... Split-window semaphore Bug ($50, kid's mom sent it to the crusher an hour before I got back with the cash), Ferrari 365 Daytona Spyder ($10,000 at the time), a Gullwing Merc with Rudge knockoffs, sitting on 4 flat tires ($15,000 at the time)... -
