WHICH One to build w/ 1972 CHALLENGER Funny car
gtx6970 replied to booboo60's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
But the chassis designs in the johan kit is all wrong for the MrNorm car Like mentioned .it's right for Gene Snow car. It's pretty close for the Ramchargers 1970 only car,,the 1971 car use the MPC kit And the 1970 dodge fever car is another one pretty close. which I think is 1970 only ( no decals avail that I know of ) I think someone was doing the decals to do the Marv Eldridge car ? Not even close for the . Bob Banning. - The avail decals are for the 72-73 car color me gone .. decals avail are for the 72 car chi town hustler.. -decals are for the 71-72 car, which used the chassis design in the MPC kit, but the Johan body would be more accurate ) FOR THIS CAR or soapy sales cars - decals avail are for the 72-73 car ( Soapy Sales was using a Dave Beebe driven demon bodied car in 70-71 ,aka Pure Hell ) ..for those use the mpc reissue -

gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ok, picked up some aluminum plate metallizer today as well as some alclad dull aluminum Question, does the alclad require an undercoat like there chrome does . is so,, I am all ears for recomendations I've got a couple test bodies I am going to use as guinea pigs ( only have the one ClubDeMer kit ) ..so may start this this weekend -
Testors Metalizer paints,,have questions.
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I forgot about Alclad ,,but that requires an airbrush . If I can get say 90% close with a rattel can, I'll go that route. If I cant acheive my goal that way,,,,,,then airbrush it is . Its just not my first choice With it being a full body handleing it will be a must to assemlbe it,,( its multi piece body ) I may build one with no paint to see how the kit goes together as a test run and get familiar with this things nuances . I really like the finish on your Challenger build. Thats exacly what I would like to have once this is all done -
Thanks fellas. To my eye the more pics I see,,the less I see any blue tint . And its got me leaning hard towards just a bare aluminum finish. A brushed finish if I can pull it off . Big question for me ,,, is how to do that. one I dea I had is once the metallizer is dry ,,,,,,lightly drag a scotchbrite pad thru it, then clear top coat it .
-
Ok short version of the story I want to try to replicate what looks like a brushed aluminum finish . with very, very little gloss if any . I'll call it a satin finish would be pretty close I am somewhat familiar with the Testor sprays. As i've used them for exhaust systems finishes with good results. But I see Buffing and non buffing. Clear tops coats - buffing and then non buffing. Whats the diffrences ? This is the finish I am after. And I am not totally against using an airbrush but would prefer rattle cans if at all possibile

Here is the build . If they come above in the original post I'll delete them here. All the exterior decals have been added since this last picture was taken . It is 100% done.

Recommendations for enamel clear coat
gtx6970 replied to berr13's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I buy it at my local auto body supply store ( KOI here in northern Ky ) Like I said earlier . I no longer use enamel clear,,,,. I build a lot of white cars . And dont want the yellowing issues to happen again like it did here. So I use either Laquer clear ( Testors, Tamiya or Duplicolor or Upol urethane in the tall gold rattle can ) -
I remember when Ronnie Sox was driving one like this many years ago , and always though it would make a kiiler looking model . I'm tuned in to watch this one come to life

How did I miss this one. The color combo looks amazing. Not that I would have expected anything less from your bench. I gotta ask though A - how did you do the antenna ? B - why 3 heater hoses going into the firewall ? should only be the 2

Here is the best picture I have been able to find of the original car. And in these pic it sure looks like its a brushed aluminum with at least a blueish tint to it . I' 'think ' this is the original car....... Then in some pics I've found it really looks light light blue ....what to do,,,what to do . Was thinking to do it in a silver base with a VERY slight blue tinted clear top coat. Then cear it all . I would love to hear ideas on the best way to do this one. I had also thought about some testors aluminum metallizers and go that with no blue tint And if anyone has done one of these and has any build tips,,I am all ears. Thanks all

Anyone know for sure the color of the original car. I look from time to time and in some pics it looks silver yet others it looks a very light blue I did find out a there was a replica built sometime recently ,,, and its painted in what is being referred to as Cerulean Blue...problem is I dont think the original car was that dark of a blue I have a Club De Mer and a Lincoln Futura on the very near future to do list and I want to do them right.

I have a boat load of builders. But I think the only one I personally started and not finished is going on 15 years give or take . ( mid to late 90s time frame ) Its Slixx decaled Pure Hell Demon funny car Its going to require an airbrush to correct the paint,,and I never could get excited about tackling it,,,maybe someday. Its been sitting in the same spot in a clear case on my desk all this time

Yes. Got everything to build the 59 stock. The silver 60 is really nice and I like the color combo...so I will leave it exactly like it is. And I think I did ok price wise

1960 Ford Promotionals question
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I thought it looked like something was wrong in the ft fender. The visor didn't bother me at all. But the metal chassis was throwing me off and it definitely wasn't as warped as most promos I've seen from the era. I decided to pass and find an annual kit builtup instead. -
1960 Ford Promotionals question
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This is the car I am looking at. The metal chassis has me wondering whats up. In the pictures I cant make up my mind if the left fender has warp to it or not. It certaintly seems straight down the sides and the body doesnt have the huge curl in the middle of it like most I've seen. But every other one I've looked at has a detailed plastic chassis http://www.ebay.com/itm/351340348215?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT -
