USA-1 Rebuild
gtx6970 replied to rbarton's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Sentimental reasons only. Fix only what needs fixing. Any kind of a rebuild and its no longer your dads build. IMO -
WOW, Very nice. Just one problem,,,,,,I think your door lock knobs are to far back .

1935 Delahaye any models of this ?

Ditto. .in a big way. I would so buy that -
No. All 55 300s were silver engines with gold valve covers and air cleaners. I think most everything else was gold

1/25 Revell Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon 2'n'1
gtx6970 replied to Matt T.'s topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This picture all by itself is what sold me I want one of these kits. I had no interest in it til I saw this -
I would fill then re-scribe the lines in the lower half . The ClubDeMer is similar but not as bad at that

Art, No dis-respect meant. so please dont take it as such . But just to use one model year as an example. How did the then Johan manage to produce an extremly accurate replica of say the Plymouth 1969 GTX. Granted some of the interior details,,and expecially the chassis detail left a lot to be desired. But for the most part the bodies were dead on which is the primary thing you see . And they showed up on hoddy store shelves not to long after if not the same time that the 1/1 car hit the streets. ( dealer promos as an example ) And I whole heartedly agree, todays buying public is much more criticle and less acceptable then we once were. Which for the most part is probably the same buying public then as today . Were model manufacturers able to get advance specs on the forthcoming cars long before the main public did ? One would think with todays technology a kit could go from idea to live product considerably faster today with less flaws in the finiched product.

I did add the strip that wraps areound the nose of the car to replicate the thin moulding as on the 1/1 And managed to get the red interior pieces painted and BMF on the seats mouldings. Just trying to keep moving forward,,,,,and not to stress to much about this kits flaws. Thanks for cking in

Thanks for the note. I found that thread on a google search a while back looking for images of the 1/1 . I did spend a little time on it this one this morning. And looking at the body comparing to pics of the actual car. A - The kit doesnt have the 3 fins inside the scoops on the doors. So I need to figure out a way to make those. B - And the body line above the rear wheel opening where it continues and wraps around the back of the car is all wrong. Plus the tail bezels are right where this line is supposed to be . Problem is ,I dont think theres any way to fix this without radically cutting up the body. Which to avoid getting disgusted with it,,,, I dont really feel like doing . I guess I'll just build it as is and live with it. I did pick up some Alclad dur-aluminum paint over the weekend that I think will be a good match.

Isnt the 57 Ford wagon supposed to be due here in a bit ? What about the Lindberg Lawman Dodge ? Mobius 1965 Plymouth or the 65 Comet , ? ,,havent heard a peep about either one is some time how about the 69-70 Ford pickup ? 61 Pontiac Ventura ? I want at least one of each ,,with multiples of both the plymouth and the comet

Before I go to far on the body work ( and theres lots of that ) I plan to hit the beading isle in hobby lobby today and MAYBE get luck to find something similar to the 3 stars ,,but I dont have high hopes for that idea. I like the silly putty idea . I can pull an impression off the 58 Bonnevile and not have to worry about paint adheasion issues on this body

Sweet I REALLY like the colors I for one would really like to know how you get such clean sharp lines on the color seperations. Especially on the backs side of the ft seat,,that cant be easy to tape up . And I assume this is all air brush ?

Being somewhat familiar with how a CNC mill works and time involoved to do do something like this. I used to work here and the quality level is second to none,, and its not cheap http://www.ccookenterprises.com/valveCovers/billet.html I can only imagine the hours involved to go from a forged block of aluminum to a finished engine block. makes me wonder how much and Why ?
