  1. From the day I ordered them it was about 4 weeks to delivery. I worked on other builds so I was good with it. Like Steve said an unbuilt will get ugly. be it hardtop or convertible I watched 2 convertible builtups sell in the past few weeks on Ebay , one went for $110 , the other went for $145 . There was an unbuilt hardtop kit sold a few months back ,,, but I dont remember exactly what it sold for ,,I do remember it was well over $200 I just did a completed sales search on Ebay and they've sold anywhere from $50 to nearly $150 ,,just depends on who wants it at that time . If it ends in the middle of the day mid week they tend to sell much cheaper. Evenings or weekends ,,,,ya better dig a little deeper. That same theory goes for about any of these old annuals . I know my toy fund has surely taken a serious hit the past few months. And I havent bought anything newer than 1961 .
  2. Wow. All these old annuals. I can only imagine what your display case looks like. Quad tone. .......bet that was fun . But agreed looks sweet when finished
  3. Ok maybe it wasnt done. Tonight I added some shims in the rear to get the back end up off its butt.. SOOOOOOO much better now. Thanks all for the nice words, I really appreciate it.
  4. Its an original AMT plastic kit. I bought it off ebay about 3 months ago . It was builtup, but didnt appear it ever had any paint on it . Yes they are Modelhaus bumpers , head light and tail lights . I have the originals but untill I can get enough bumpers gathered up to have replated. I decided to go resin,,,and they come already chrome plated This is what it looked like when I got it .
  5. Very cool project. whats your plan for a chassis ? I wanted to do one of these someday. My pet peave is the chassis in the old MPC kit is nothing like the actual car
  6. Steve. Actually I did buy a set of them ...but I was afraid of trying to remove these from the tires. So I may change them out later. Problem is the tires on this are hard as a rock......I was afraid of causing damage to either the wheels or the tires. So I am looking for alternative tires to fit the modelhaus wheels.
  7. I am calling this one finished,,,. I bought a few months back on a whim,,thinking I would get to it someday. After doing a google image search for my files,,,someday turned into that day. This car just looked to cool. I pushed everything else aside and dove right in. Painted in gloss black laquer, duplicolor red coves and Upol urethane clear top coat. The polished out with rubbing compund followed by a light waxing to make her shine. Interrior is done in the same duplicolor red with white accents. Embossing powder for the carpeting look . And Tamiya dark red for the top boot . I had to repair the broken vent wing frame so I was afraid of pushing to hard to really polish out the BMF but thruned out pretty good . Chassis is done in red primer with some details picked out with testors enamels . All the chrome is new Modelhaus stuff ( originals are bagged and put away and will get replated someday later on whne I get enough to make it costs effective ) Its not perfect. As I build for me not contests. But this one is hands down my favorite build that I've ever done. And looks killer in my case . I have to get a super fine tipped brush then I plan to redo the black on the side vents . Also Ive attached a picture that was my insperation. I thought about all black or with white coves instead ,,but the black and red looked just looked right so I had to do it. comments of all kinds welcome. Thanks for cking in
  8. Sweet. I stil have nightmares about the interior I did on a 62 Catalina a year or so ago. Not looking forward to another one at all. So,,, I wish ya luck . but am looking forward to your updates I am leaning towards a dark red body with a tri tone red interior on mine.
  9. So thats a model ? I though it was real Cool pic, I just bought a 60 Merc builtup
  10. Looking good. Did I miss it ,,,have you decided on an interior color yet ? The color is starting to grow on me . I am thinking my builtup 59 Convertible is gonna be on my short list
  11. The stinger hood is cool....might have to get one of those
  12. I would use plastic tube that fits the wheel...then redrill it to fit the axle The hole in the new tube will provide a pilot to drill and be centered
  13. There is a model show coming up here locally in about 3 weeks I am hoping one of these is there avail. I really want to hold one in my hands before laying out cash for one ( the multi piece body has me gun shy.) I might look for a re-issue Johan 1958 promo Instead
  14. Correct, But I decided to leave it as is...its survived all these years with nothing sanded , glued on or funky done to it so I decided to leave it as is . Steve, I wanted that hardtop,,,, but it was over $100 the first day ot 2 . I watched 2 convertibles sell in the past few weeks, 1 for $145 and the 2nd for $115 I am in this one postage and everything for less than $70 I am actually looking for a 58 Buick convertible ,,but they get expensive fast . About my limit on any builtup is $100 , preferably less than $75
  15. Well, the chrome showed up yesterday so this one is back to the ft of the line . I got the bumpers and headlight detailed. and in for a test fit so I decided to take a snap shot while it was sunny outside this morning. About the only thing left is BMF the windshield frame, polish the glass and make the final assy. Then a good waxing to make her shine . I've tried to get a hardtop builder to go with this . But WOW these get pricey. I'm begining to believe I got a smoken deal on this one .
  16. I cant speak for the model kit . But on the actual car there is white decal on the dirvers side inner fender ,,basically right behind the battery and there is a yellow decal on top of the radiator support
  17. Was over a friends house last nite for a few beers. Picked up a builtup 1961 Inperial convertible, a builtup 1960 Bonneville hardtop ( not 100% sure what I will do with it,,i was mainly after the Imperial ) I already have a 60 Bonneville convertble builtup ( 2 actually ) And a decent builtup AMT 1968 Cougar ( I was hoping it was a 67 ) . Today though, my Model haus order arrived for my 1958 Bonnevile project . So that one can move forward again .
  18. I am quite sure it could pull the trailer.....stopping it and controlling it at speed is entirely different.
  19. Sorry guys. It's the model kit. I picked up a builtup yesterday...and think it's a 67 Will ck and get pics this morning Edit,,,,,,its got sidemarkers.....its a 1968. I want a 1967. I'll remove the sidemarkers and move on if thats the only difference in the 2 kits ? unless someone has a an original 67 kit they want to trade . I'll sand them off and build my old car I had in high school. Which was a 1967 390 auto red oxide primer , black int and blk vinyl top.... backseat wasnt worth a darn for a high schooler though
  20. .. is there anyway to determine which year it is ?
  21. Seats in the gtx kit were avail on a roadrunner. ..the door panels with the woodgrain were not. Remove the side trim and get a roadrunner grille. And your good...sorta But like said....the johan body is far superior to the amt kit.
  22. REALLY nice. I looked at that exact color for an early 30s Cadillac build I have in mind . This pretty much insures I'll use it
  23. IF it is in fact Decals by Lucas. I've used 2 of his decals ,,,with NO complaints
  24. Anyone know the color of the red ? I am thinking candy apple red over a gold base I have one in the pile ,,,( later)
  25. Looks good in yellow
