Old kits never die, they just get better... : 66 Galaxie convertible
gtx6970 replied to mangodart's topic in Model Cars
Great save of an old annual. One has to love the big cars of the sixties . on a side note, the back drop scenery looks good, and would love to see more -
Here's my contribution to the thread. Original MPC Barry Setzer and the Revell Jungle Jim Vega I have another Barry Setzer car unbuilt,,,as well as several more builtups in the stash .
-
Agreed, Based solely on what I myself have built,,,,, be it old or an all new tool kits. This one went together with ZERO issues and displays extremely well . MY one and only complaint is the instructions are a little vague with some of the details. Although for a 1st time builder it might be a touch to much

on my monitor , it looks like grey primer.? I vote for a darker roof color . I think a white roof will get lost in such a light main color -

'67 GTO Mr. Unswitchable Funny Car "What If"

I like,,, A LOT And was actually thinking of doing the exact same thing with an old MPC GTO builtup I have -
Excellant pics. I am leaning towards the 57 Chevy wheels. But was concerned the tires would not fit the look I am after. I really want some big and littles to get a nice rake to it and fill the wheel wells from behind . The rubber band look sidewalls is out of the question for taste . Pegasus has some wheels similar to a Halibrand but they have way to small of a tire on them Micro Nitro is out of my budget My goal is for the upcoming 57 Ford wagon, I want to replicate the black car as close as I can. Everything about tha car just pops my buttons . And I am not really a hot rod fan persay

Been doing the valve stem stick for years . Although not on every build . But it depends on the depth of the build I want to go ,,,and/or just my mood at the time. Either way they are pretty easy to add at any time.

Just did an Ebay search found a couple sets that look interesting Anyone have a better picture of the wheels and tires in these

The only Cadillac I have is still unbuilt. And I think its a 1931. But I am looking for a 1958 or 1959 now
-
Same here. I have Hobby Villa local to me here in northern Ky. He's not the cheapest. But the guys working there truly try to get me anything I want/need. And I try to spend my hobby dollar with him whenever I can.

Agreed,,,,,,,,All kits were meant to be built...but its a fact a lot were not. Even though I have several old ones that are still untouched, but I usually dont look at unbuilts simply because I want to build them . With exception to just one single kit ( its a dead mint Barry Setzer vega funnycar btw ) in my stash every single one is to build ,,,someday And I dont consider myself a collector. So even the unbuilt / untouched 1959 Edsel I just picked up will be built . I'm not going to cut it up or anything crazy but my plans from my 1st Ebay bid to get it was to build it . It was the nicest one I could find that didnt have all the crazy custom stuff glued to it . My budget on old annuals is about $50 each range. And so far I've done pretty well, some went over,,but some were cheaper. . Considering a new off the shelf kit will be $25 now $50 for something that cant be bought just anywhere I dont feel is to bad. The Edsel on the other hand was more than double my original budget,,,,,,,but I wanted it so dont tell the wife god I tried to get an unbuilt 1958 Buick kit yesterday,,,,, at over 3 times my typical per kit budget,,,and I ddnt get it .
-
to me it looks like all 3 are different from one another. top and bottom one have different exhaust tips. and the middle one has different air cleaner and/or exhaust poking up thru the rear deck ps, this kit wasnt even on my radar,,till I saw this picture.I might just have to build one of them just for giggles

This may have been asked before but I cant find anything. So,,I want to stray out from my usual resto stock or old drag cars builds and build a hotrod. Thinking about a wheel choice something like these , or maybe an old Halibrand looking piece. I would like to stay with some tires that have a sidewall yet low profile . I want the big and little look between ft and rear Whats avail in kit or aftermkt form ?
