Art, No dis-respect meant. so please dont take it as such . But just to use one model year as an example. How did the then Johan manage to produce an extremly accurate replica of say the Plymouth 1969 GTX. Granted some of the interior details,,and expecially the chassis detail left a lot to be desired. But for the most part the bodies were dead on which is the primary thing you see . And they showed up on hoddy store shelves not to long after if not the same time that the 1/1 car hit the streets. ( dealer promos as an example ) And I whole heartedly agree, todays buying public is much more criticle and less acceptable then we once were. Which for the most part is probably the same buying public then as today . Were model manufacturers able to get advance specs on the forthcoming cars long before the main public did ? One would think with todays technology a kit could go from idea to live product considerably faster today with less flaws in the finiched product.

I did add the strip that wraps areound the nose of the car to replicate the thin moulding as on the 1/1 And managed to get the red interior pieces painted and BMF on the seats mouldings. Just trying to keep moving forward,,,,,and not to stress to much about this kits flaws. Thanks for cking in

Thanks for the note. I found that thread on a google search a while back looking for images of the 1/1 . I did spend a little time on it this one this morning. And looking at the body comparing to pics of the actual car. A - The kit doesnt have the 3 fins inside the scoops on the doors. So I need to figure out a way to make those. B - And the body line above the rear wheel opening where it continues and wraps around the back of the car is all wrong. Plus the tail bezels are right where this line is supposed to be . Problem is ,I dont think theres any way to fix this without radically cutting up the body. Which to avoid getting disgusted with it,,,, I dont really feel like doing . I guess I'll just build it as is and live with it. I did pick up some Alclad dur-aluminum paint over the weekend that I think will be a good match.

Isnt the 57 Ford wagon supposed to be due here in a bit ? What about the Lindberg Lawman Dodge ? Mobius 1965 Plymouth or the 65 Comet , ? ,,havent heard a peep about either one is some time how about the 69-70 Ford pickup ? 61 Pontiac Ventura ? I want at least one of each ,,with multiples of both the plymouth and the comet

Before I go to far on the body work ( and theres lots of that ) I plan to hit the beading isle in hobby lobby today and MAYBE get luck to find something similar to the 3 stars ,,but I dont have high hopes for that idea. I like the silly putty idea . I can pull an impression off the 58 Bonnevile and not have to worry about paint adheasion issues on this body

Sweet I REALLY like the colors I for one would really like to know how you get such clean sharp lines on the color seperations. Especially on the backs side of the ft seat,,that cant be easy to tape up . And I assume this is all air brush ?

Being somewhat familiar with how a CNC mill works and time involoved to do do something like this. I used to work here and the quality level is second to none,, and its not cheap http://www.ccookenterprises.com/valveCovers/billet.html I can only imagine the hours involved to go from a forged block of aluminum to a finished engine block. makes me wonder how much and Why ?

Kit source for a Chrysler 440 TNT engine?
gtx6970 replied to beeRS's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I like the engine in the Revell 68-69 Charger and Dart kits . As far as the 440 TNT air cleaner nameplate your on your own. I dont think even Fred Cady even made that one -
I'll be brutally honest. I really like the car and especially the paint work. the fan thing on the back....not so much

Resin Casting, First Attempt.
gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To make copies of something thats say,, less than an 1/8" long and MAYBE .010 to 020" thick ,,whats a good material to use. many years ago I tried the deglued BMF trick , then fill the mold with baking soda and super glue,,it didnt work out so well Its the 3 little star emlbems on the side of the club de mer I want to copy. I was thinking of pulling a mold off them with home depot silicone ,,anything I need to do to the body first to insure the silicone comesoff cleanly,,yet not effect paint coats later on ? -
Bob. I thought about doing just that. But with a little patience I think I can get it together with just removing the ft lower valance like shown. .....at least I really hope so. I glued the ft half of the body on this morning and will start filling seams this week....so only time will tell.
-
You not kidding. To fill them where the ft section right in front of the doors is horrible. and I have a feeling the 3 little stars on the sides will not survive the filling and sanding work . Plus the gaps right in the middle of the doors on both sides is probably 1/32 of an inch . Hopefully I can fix it without getting disgusted and put it back in the box . I would like to do the Futura as well here soon.

Well after my recent chrome ladens builds. I decided to try somethin less lfashy. This one had been in my mind for some time I needed to build it. So, that time is now. I have already done a white glue assembly mockup to see how it goes together and see where/what mods are going to be needed.( and theres are lots of them ) One is the area above the rear wheels needed some strip stryene to continue the body line around the side of the car like its supposed to be The second is the chrome trim that goes inside the lower ft nose,,,no way was that going in with the body assembled and painted.. So I cut the lower nose off the car and will put it back on once everything is painted,,,,,,,theres supposed to be a seam on the side of the nose anyway . Finally I drilled a hole in the outer center hub on one wheel so I can install the tires and wheels by sliding the axle all the way thru one into the other. In my mockup I could get all the interior pieces in with a fully assembed body,,its just a slow process. Comments or suggestions welcome. If anyone has a suggestion to fill the seam on the sides in front of the doors AND save the 3 star emblems,,, I am all ears

I am sure you've seen this. I found this some time ago. I've always wanted to build this car but with the kits chassis isnt even close to the 1/1 ,,,plus my skills are WAYYYYY below what it would take to scratch build the right one. I gave up and sold the builtup I had a few years ago. But I am definitly going to watch this one come to life . That car was way cool and most liklely a one of a kind .

Ok, you made me curious. So I did a google image search for 60 Mercury Parklane ,,,,,. Turns out it had a custom insert in the grille. Took my fingernail and it popped right out and you cant tell it was ever there. I feel much better now . I dont care for the 4 bar spinner wheelcovers it has though. Are the ones on yours modelhaus pieces ? I am leaning towards this for mine not sure about an interior color though .

Steve, You made me go look. Sure enough it does. But they popped right out with nearly no effort and I think the bumper is very re-usuable with new red lenses . Did I dodge a bullitt ? It looks like the backup lenses were also a seperate lens ? How about we just trade ,,,mine for yours .????? I'll pay postage both ways !!!!!!!!! You dont really like convertibles anyway right . I really like the lines of this body style . and the back bumper design is just cool . Need less to say this one is on my short list ( need to realy stock up on some BMF foil first ) The 58 Bonneville nearly wiped out a full sheet on its own

what is "good design"?
gtx6970 replied to southpier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Or not. . Me personally I think they're all butt ugly . -
Postman made me another visit this week. ( gonna have to stop this sooner or later ) Dropped of a really nice 1960 Mercury Parklane convertible builtup . It looked good in the Ebay pics but wow,, its actually better than I expected . The red is brushed painted ,,otherwise theres not a mark on the body or glass . windshield frame is nice with no cracks . This one might end on up the short list to do
