since you're doing it in red at least you won't have to deal with red plastic "bleed thru", you may even want encourage it... :)

I have the body color and interior color nailed down. I am looking at engine colors. My research has shown some in green, some silver, some black and I found one in red which was the body color. Looked good.

I have the roadster kit. I'm very torn on on how to build it. A big part of me is screaming to hot rod it and make it a highboy.

A hot rod ? Really ? I love different and that would be different. Go for it !

It's not real high on my list of upcoming builds, with 11 wips already, but I will get to it eventually. Another thought I've had is to built the fenders out and down in an art deco fashion like the '37 Delahaye.

We have color ! Finally got around to painting this. I used Duplicolor Flame Red. Not sure it was the best color choice but I like it. Still need to wet sand, clear and polish it. Working on the engine and wheels now. Car is wired unlike any I have seen before so I am going by the photos I found on line. They don't seem to run right to a distributor like I had thought they would have.

Thanks Carl. I found an example of one of the convertible ones done in red with the engine the same red so right or wrong that is what I am going to do.

The heirs turned down a free restoration by Mercedes-Benz, and all offers to purchase???

I'd call them stupid and pig-headed, but I think I'd be giving them too much credit.

These cars are quite pretty. I have one downstairs I'll build sometime. Perhaps for NNL-East next year.

Christian or Skip, do either of you know if that correct engine green (or something reasonably close) is attainable?

The pictures Christian posted are the only ones I've ever seen in that green/aqua color, and they're both from a 540K, but that doesn't mean his info is incorrect. I've seen some 500K restorations with polished valve cover (with or without engine-turned pattern), black cylinder head and body-color block, plus other variations, but by far most of the survivors have the aluminum/black/silver combo seen here...

This is probably closer to what Ray has in mind.

Those are some of the photos I have. I am going to try and follow along the lines of the one with the red block. Given my limited talents it may not resemble it as much as I would like. : )

I finished the engine today. I know it may not be very accurate but I did the best I could with these old eyes and not as steady as they used to be hands. I think it's ok but could use a little touch up.

Subscribing. I have this kit, but plan on a silver/ red interior.

You are doing a great job, Ray.

Plugging along on this one. Body has been cleared but will need to be polished still. Wheels have been built as well as the rear end axel and suspension. So far it is fitting pretty good. Only the wheel backs gave me a bit of trouble. they just would not snap in and I had to sand them down a little.
