High octane Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I was at my local Michael's store today and saw their cans of spray paint locked up, and so far it's the only store around here that locks up spray paints.
426-Hemi Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 -Home Depot has a "spot" with a pad of blank white paper, and a shield around it for a "test" shot" of paint....MAYBE Wal-Mart ought to take a lesson, NO "graffiti" in ANY of the local Home Depots to me! BUT we are talkin' about Wally World and kids and the lack of respect for the employee's OR other shoppers....
Tom Geiger Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Pep Boys usually has their Duplicolor cases all locked up. I remember going there and it taking a while to find an employee to open it up so I could get what I needed. Once I picked out a color and a can of primer, the kid took them from my hands and told me to follow him to the cash register.... I was a friggin 55 year old man! I wasn't tagging their store, I wasn't stealing their paint! And the last time I was in the store, the locks were all gone.
cobraman Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 The Hobby Lobby by me does the same thing. First you have to hunt down somebody to open the glass cabinet and then after making your selections the employee has to carry them up to the cashier.
Longbox55 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I was at my local Michael's store today and saw their cans of spray paint locked up, and so far it's the only store around here that locks up spray paints. The Micheal's near me only does that with the Liquitex line of spray paints. All the rest of their spray paints are either on a regular rack or on a shelf. Nobody else has spray paint locked up, but they are supposed to check ID at the register. usually, they don't unless you look too young. I was only asked one time, that was at a Walmart, when the law was first put in place. I think I was 32 or 33 at the time.
Snake45 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 My Hobby Lobby doesn't lock up the Testor spray paints (or any others, for that matter), but my local Michael's does.

Huffing isn't just a kid's high, I remember seeing a couple mugshots on line of guys in their 30's or 40's who huffed silver and gold metallic paint, of which you could who huffed what by the color of their "Homer Simpson Stuble".

Ah, so it's only gold and silver... that's what I was doing wrong!
Joe Handley Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Ah, so it's only gold and silver... that's what I was doing wrong! Honestly, I've heard the flake makes it more effective............do not want to know how all those tiny metal flakes affects the respiratory system when breathed in large quantities though.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Honestly, I've heard the flake makes it more effective... Hmmmm...sort of the poor man's Goldschlager?
Joe Handley Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Hmmmm...sort of the poor man's Goldschlager? Maybe, but without the makes your eyes burn cinnamon flavoring............that said, on scent alone, I think I would rather have a shot of that over a hit of paint, especially if I can strain the gold out of it before drinking it
Drake69 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) Wow this is so different to Oz What is the norm there? Everything is upside down... Edited May 21, 2015 by Drake69
Monty Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 "At the paint rack. Why?" Cause there's a whole lotta stupid around, that's why...stupid with zero respect for other people's property, rights, or just knowing how to act like a human being. So, once again, the lowest-common-denominator retards ruin it for everyone else... This was inspired by the South Park episode where Randy Marsh goes on Wheel of Fortune & infamously screws up the answer.
Scale-Master Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Honestly, I've heard the flake makes it more effective............do not want to know how all those tiny metal flakes affects the respiratory system when breathed in large quantities though. It's actually because the amount of solvent being a higher percentage in silver and gold cans than other colors. The more pigment the less room for solvents. Consider it a higher octane paint. This info comes from my cop/DA neighbor, not firsthand experience.
wrecker388 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Come to Ohio spray paint is everywhere Unless you're under 18. Yeah, I'm a frickin' National Honor Society member and am ranked 9th in my class but because of some immature idiots I can't buy spray paint for use on a tiny car. My own generation's lack of respect for anything that isn't theirs is pathetic.

Not your generation, and it likely predates my generation, I got carded 20 years ago when buying paint at a WalMart, luckily I was 18 at the time and had my license with me.

Still ridiculous no matter what generation it is. Anything for a high I suppose.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Still ridiculous no matter what generation it is. Anything for a high I suppose. When I was a kid building models in the early '60s, glue-sniffing was popular with some of my idiot peers. My parents took the "bad" glue away and forced me to try to work with the idiotic non-toxic crapp, or Elmer's. Impossible, obviously, and part of the reason I got out of the hobby...the frustration of trying to work with useless adhesives and paints just wasn't worth the effort. Seems like they might have realized that I was building contest-winning models occasionally, and probably couldn't be doing work like that if my little brain was glue-befuddled. Anyway, it's probably around that time I started getting REALLY tired of taking the whippings for other kid's stupid actions, and part of why I still have great disdain for a society that accommodates the lowest-common-denominator in its laws and regulations, while achievers have to deal with the consequences. I use acetone in my 1:1 aircraft and hi-po automotive composite work, and buying industrial quantities has become an exercise in jumping through stupid hoops, all because it's also used in some drug-cooking applications. Like I said...
