mrm Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 This is absolutely box stock. I love this model and in my opinion both the real car and the model are very much underrated.
Snake45 Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Very nice! I don't think I've ever seen the full-detail kit built before.

I tend to agree. Even the snapper kit is a great source of parts. Far as the real car goes, I think it may have kinda offended too many crusty old traditional guys, but anyone who knows world-class design and fabrication will love this thing. Beautiful build of a rarely seen kit, by the way. Edited May 28, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
High octane Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Nice job on that full - detail kit Michael. I wish I had the full detail kit instead of the Quik Builder as I'm thinkin' of using a 'Vair engine in mine.
DeeCee Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 First ever full detail kit i have ever seen, nice job.

Would you mount it midships, or let it just hang out the back, or build custom bodywork to cover it?
Steven W Zimmerman Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Great job ! Working on one of these myself, with a Revell snap 34 Ford front grille. Tryin to decide if I want to use the engine supplied or drop some other engine in the front. There IS room, if you do some modifications........'Z'
High octane Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I don't think that I've ever opened my Aluma coupe kit as yet, but I probably would just hang the 'Vair engine out the back. If I mounted it midship, then I would have to alter the interior quite a bit.
Twokidsnosleep Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Great build, you should be proud of this one!!! I didn't realize the original was a rear engine/ mid engine
wmobie Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Built by Boyd, powered by Mitsubishi, who I recall, helped defer the cost???
sigmaman Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Nicely done. Don't see one built that often. Especially out of box.

If I mounted it midship, then I would have to alter the interior quite a bit. May I ask why would you want to do this? The Mitsubishi turbocharged motor in the Aluma is better and more powerful than any Corvair motor ever was.
mrm Posted May 31, 2015 Author Posted May 31, 2015 Built by Boyd, powered by Mitsubishi, who I recall, helped defer the cost??? Actually the car was commissioned by Mitsubishi to promote their new (back then) motor and it's versatility. This is the same motor that later found its way in the Eclipse enginebay. Considering this car was built in 1991 ( completed in 1992) it was nothing short of engineering masterpiece.
horsepower Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 This was done like the Pontiac Fiero ,front wheel drive engine and transaxle mounted midship to come out with a mid engined coupe with factory power train.
