This one is well-conceived and well-executed. Also quite authentic to the late '40s, early '50s period. Doesn't deserve to be tarred with the same brush as those cartoon cars.

That's the only one on this page worth looking at. What engine is that?

It's a '55-'62 Chevrolet 235. It could also possibly be a '55-'58 261, would have to see the block a little better to tell for sure.

My question is: is there something wrong with the Model A grille/radiator? I notice almost every custom sticks the 32 grill on there, and I was always fond of the original.

It's just that they can tend to look a little too old-timey if not done right, especially on a non-fendered car. It IS an attractive grille shell, but it takes more effort to get one to look good on a rod...IMHO.

"Traditional" rods almost never had the same size tires front and rear. Rear tires were pretty much always larger, ambulance tires were very popular. The car that Ace posted is an excellent example of the common tire combo from the early days of rodding.
