Petetrucker07 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 If it weren't people who can't leave politics out of a hobby of building model cars, we wouldn't have to go in a round about way to comment on his model. People just can't leave politics alone. Some have to make everything political, even a hobby. Ridiculous, uterly.
Snake45 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'm wondering if he's starting a movement to not allow the General Lee in model car contests as well... Wouldn't doubt it at all. The PC mindset can allow no dissent. BTW, there's already a model car website where (many) pics of General Lee are banned. I notice that their traffic is now about a tenth of this place's. Make of that what you will.
Joe Handley Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 First off, nice work in that General and Roscoe's cruiser! Otherwise, I get a feeling it might have been more or an anti-PC.......... trying to start something.
bismarck Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Yeah snake, I thought I saw a lot of new posters on the boards the last couple of months or so. That may explain it. Its a car model forum for cripes sake. Where does PC fit in here anyway? The Moderators already have guidelines posted about conduct on the boards, what can, and can't be discussed. So now we have a whole other "layer" of content that we have to tip toe around ? Show me in black and white these unwritten rules that we're supposed to follow, and let me judge for myself if its PC or not. Until that happens, Its just another way to control content by the few over the many,. nothing more. Let The Moderators handle that. Edited July 15, 2015 by bismarck
JTRACING Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) I know for a fact they can disable members from making posts and commenting. In my opinion that should have been implemented and my post cleaned up and kept open. Make a stand against this non sense Edited July 15, 2015 by JTRACING

Now that you mention it, yeah, most of the new guys are pretty uppity and quite lippy

Bob Ellis Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I do not like those that lock threads. To me, it is a rude method to silence others after they have made their point.
Snake45 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Now that you mention it, yeah, most of the new guys are pretty uppity and quite lippy I haven't been here long enough to know if the troublemakers are newbies or old-timers.
bismarck Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Some of the sig lines are new. Just looking over some of the new ones lately. Its supposed to be an "all inclusive forum" right? Ok, on that thought, lets move forward to the post of the general. The picture of the stars and bars offended someone, the food fight commenced, and the thread was locked. Now THAT individual, or individuals, has imposed THEY"RE political outlook on everyone else on this forum. And the forum is supposed to be free of political views from ANYONE. period. Is that not a violation of forum policy? If the food fight had turned nasty, with a lot of cursing and such, most definitely shut it down. But from what I read, unless it was cleaned up a lot, didn't go down that road. Political Correctness has no place in modeling.
Jon Haigwood Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I loved your build and thought that when I first saw it it could be a real General. I didn't post a comment as there is always someone that seems to be offended with my avatar and starts a "wa wa wa" whine about the Flag. This is a Model Forum not a soapbox for people with a cause, and try and get everything their way. I am trying not to get involved in any skirmishes with anybody. So I try and hold back and keep in mind what this forum is all about. As for banning avatars, really ?
bismarck Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Bob. Very true. I wouldn't want the job. Harry has a full plate, no doubt. But hopefully someone with a clear head can step up.
Roadrunner Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I figure I might as well post before this one gets locked up too. Your car looked great, and I stated as such. There is just no deterring some folks from having to play the antagonist, and we all lose as a consequence.
kalbert Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 When I was 10 I enjoyed the show, I liked fast and loud cars, roosts of dirt, and high jumps. I am older now, wiser. The show is terrible, bad writing, bad acting, dumb plots, and a terrible terrible waste of Chargers (and all the stuff that was passed off as a Charger). The choice to put the flag on the car was an unfortunate one, it had the same meaning then as it has now. Regardless of my distaste for all things DoH, I can appreciate that it was a darn fine example of a General Lee. In particular the light weathering really set it apart from all others. I also appreciate that no actual Chargers et. al. were harmed in the building of this example.
Monty Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Wouldn't doubt it at all. The PC mindset can allow no dissent. BTW, there's already a model car website where (many) pics of General Lee are banned. I notice that their traffic is now about a tenth of this place's. Make of that what you will. It's disgusting and disheartening to see what passes for rational thought anymore. Somehow we've gotten to the point where, in the minds of some, a particular kit's decals either equate the manufacturer and/or the builder with advocacy for the policies of a certain government or represent an insurmountable burden of offense that can only be eradicated by a literary and pictorial "cleansing". In the case of the DoH Charger, is anyone really convinced that MPC designed it to show solidarity with the antebellum South? Or that building King Tiger and T-34 tank kits indicates support for the Nazi German and Communist Russian regimes? If you still want to play the "offended" card, the USSR's Red Star might be considered the most "offensive" symbol ever, given the millions who were invaded and subjugated under it during the decades of the Cold War. Yet, to the best of my knowledge, no one's calling for it to be taken out of any kits As regards the DoH Charger, it's interesting that variations of this flag flew over the entire slave-owning US for decades, implying at least tacit approval for slavery while variants of this flag only flew over the "slave states" for roughly 4 years, yet current "thinking" says the Confederate flag and its variants must be eradicated at all costs. I'm sure it won't be long before the cultural Marxists notice this and go after the Stars and Stripes too. There's precedence for all this: does anyone else remember drag racing cars kits that eliminated beer or tobacco contingency decals? Or decals for WWII German planes etc that eliminated the swastika? The point of models is to represent the 1:1 item as realistically as possible, including significant emblems, yet a world-wide epidemic of "hypersensitive butt-hurt" has subordinated rational thought to the PC "groupthink" that Orwell warned us about. How 'bout this: Let the model companies make accurate kits, including relevant decals, and let the interested builders decide if they want to buy them or not. James, that's an incredible build, and I'm sorry you can't just post something like that and have your fellow builders appreciate it for what it is. Edited July 15, 2015 by Monty
Roadrunner Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 i wish there was a way to block avatars You can block specific members if you so choose. It's an option in your personal settings.

Roadrunner Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Now that you mention it, yeah, most of the new guys are pretty uppity and quite lippy Awesome! I loved those trolls, had two on my bass drum in fact. So many years ago,...

Yet, to the best of my knowledge, no one's calling for it to be taken out of any kits One of my model airplane friends is perhaps the most "liberal" modeler of any kind I know. He loves the WWII BF 109 fighter, and builds them by the dozen, complete with accurate swastikas. No one who knows him would ever accuse him of being a Nazi, or harboring Nazi views. To make such an accusation would only showcase one's own ignorance. Speaking of the red star, it's the corporate symbol of a large, prestigious retailer that just severed ties with a certain currently prominent celebrity/political candidate for making certain allegedly "intolerant" remarks. That's the kind of thing that makes you go, "WTF?"
bismarck Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Even Daisy Kevin? Besides the Charger, she was the best looking!!! Edited July 15, 2015 by bismarck

When Casey stepped down from moderating there was a call for moderators but no one stepped up to the plat which has in some part contributed to this mess. I considered volunteering (I'm a moderator elsewhere), but I feel that there are just too many folks here that need reigning in, to allow me to keep my sanity.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'd like to know who could find this offensive.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Well. Looked at another way, some might humbly beseech the removal of the flags in the pic above - but I wouldn't suppose that had anything to do with the pattern itself. I personally could leave the stars 'n bars a lot sooner than take 'em, but yeah, James, straight BS what happened to your thread. Makes you feel any better, I went and had a look 'cause people here said the model was good, and it do indeed live up.
