   Good day Everyone,

I may be relatively new here! But I liked the Format of the Forum website. Why is it/ That the technoweenies or whoever. Always try to fix what Ain't broke?

Under the old format when you visited say the workbench section. The threads you had not looked at were highlighted by bold type, and the ones you had looked at were in a thinner /smaller  type. This to  made it easier to know which threads I had looked at. Another example is the double spacing here. I did not set that up, and am having a bit of trouble finding a fix to go back to single spacing.

yes I know not many people like changes. We get set and comfortable with a system. Oh yes I remember when the changed the whole system on the Proboard Forums. Most of us really hated it.   Besides I am getting older and for sure not a tech type of guy.

So guys lets hear what you think about the changes!

Thanks guys! When I get up in the am ( @ like 0530 and sign on the computer and have my first cuppa  coffee the nectar of the Gods) I am not really in the mood for changes like I found this am. And remember that where I am we are twelve hours ahead of Daylight savings time on the East coast. so as I write this it is morning here, evening on the East coast.

Yes we will all likely get used to the changes after some serious moaning and groaning. But I believe in two principles that I think apply here First the K.I.S.S principle. Keep it Short and sweet( Keep it Simple Stupid) . And also If it ain't broke? Don't try to fix it! I think they both apply here?

Getting down off the soap box and returning you to our regularly scheduled program!

Gator, I don't like change either (probably more than most). My first impression was not a good one. However, I will say that as one of the old dinosaurs that still use Internet Explorer, before, I could not quote from topics or upload pictures from Photobucket. I would use my wife's computer which uses chrome. Now my computer will load everything fine with Internet Explorer. So, for me anyway, there was some benefit.

Other than the fact I have to log back in every time I visit (you could stay logged in until you shut down the computer on the old setup), I'm starting to get a feel for it.

That must be a setting or browser peculiarity.  I stay logged in even after closing a tab and opening a new one or shutting down and reopening the browser...

me too...and my computer is faster everywhere since I changed to Firefox.

I have a Samsung laptop, and use Firefox and Windows 8.0. I stay logged in in all the Forums I belong to. the only time I get logged out is usually because I leave to many open windows and leave the puter on playing music.

Yes there are most likely some benefits to the new system, But I am not really seeing them as yet.

I use Firefox as well, and have been for about 3 years now. I think once we get a feel for this new format it will be much easier to use the forum. Now that I think about this new format sucks.

omg lol !!!!!!!!! But I agree!!

.........I don't think I could have said it any better..............

i suppose we will all get used to it eventually.......

The thing that concerns me is what happens in the meantime. If the current members (us) don't adapt to this new format then we're apparently S O L. I just read a reply from the Big Kahuna that wasn't to encouraging.

......But it ain't like we got much of a choice though...... :(

I have always feared change ,  revamping a format will not attract younger people.

Young people have their own ideas and habits , model building is a hidden talent that only a handful of privileged people possess .

The feel I get for the change is that it was done to make the forum play more nicely with 'mobile devices'.  If that's true, it's a good thing for those with mobile devices.

That said, I'm old.  My cell phone is a phone.  It can take pictures.  It can't surf the internet, that's what my home computer is for.  I don't see a need to be connected with the whole world at all times and in all places.  That's just me; your mileage may vary.

Gee the young are not interested in the hobby , yer theres a couple of them here but they are and have grown up in the  want it now times . Building takes way to long and really takes thought on how it turns out . The world has changed with all the  new technology and lots of people dont have desk top computers but do have tablets and phones that they acsess the net with . Here in australia thats how it is they all are looking at these little machines  so maybe thats why this forum has changed so it's user friendly for these little mobile machines ?

I don't likeit either, and really don't buy the bringing the young into the hobby thing either. I don't think a forum will do that, we will be the ones to do it.

Well frankly none of you maintain a web site let alone your computers so give it a rest already.

Gregg and the crew most likely don't really need this site running as it seems a time suck.  There mag generates some sort of income, not this forum.

So be a little appreciative of there efforts as well as the efforts of the moderators.

Change is the only thing that is constant.

When you select a provider you get whatever upgrades that are made with updates. There is always a bit of teething pains when these changes are made. Dealing with those changes is a pain when you are an admin for a site like this. So give them a break.

Also in the thread titled new look Gregg is making a list of things that he may be able to adjust.

Give it a little time and the new format won't seem that foreign.

Be  thankful for this forum.

you don't like it because you can't be bothered to take a few minutes to look around. Unbelievable what you guys will bitch about.

Been using it for 24 hours now.  Will get used to it, but I don't have to like  it Cameron. Each to their own. We can all use it.

I was using it a lot on my phone. I deleted the forum website from it earlier today. The change did NOT make it better for me on my phone.

There hopefully were legitimate reasons for the change. Odds are the previous software is not being supported anymore. At least that is what has caused change on lots of other forums I participate on. If this change was truly to get the "younger" crowd to participate, please pass around whatever it is being smoked.  And if that is truly the reason, why the heck doesn't the magazine offer a digital version?

Like I said in the other thread, you get what you pay for and this is free. It's Gregg's playground. We either put up with the changes he wants or leave.

As long as it works ok on my pc I will stay here. Assuming I don't get banned for the earlier comment.

Just the way of the world guys. Nothing ever stays the same.

I work for a company that had a "home shopping" website for many years. Some hated it, some loved it.

Recently, a new website was unveiled & the reaction was a lot like what's happening here.....with the existing customers.

Customers who had become accustomed to the old system over the years complained incessantly. Some called it the worst website they had ever seen.

However, new customers who had never used the old website only sang it's praises.

So you see, it's all relative. If you had just joined today, you would probably love the new lay out.

I suspect, a few years from now, when it changes again, those of us that are still around will wonder why the change was made from this wonderful format.
