A little something else came to me as I read this topic, I am sure it's a US Marine thing, identify, adapt, overcome!

It's a free site for us all to enjoy, work thru the growing pains. It's all good!

I understand your frustrations. It took me a while to get used to the new site. If you think things have changed here, you should see the admin pages.

We upgrade for two reasons, useful functionality, and most importantly, security. Do you all remember when we got hacked? We were off the air for something like 5 days. The root cause was some software that hadn't been updated. Hackers got into our server, and started serving up malware. It took a lot of late nights to clean up after that.

If you're in the web site business, you know that your site is under attack virtually all the time. Security is important.

Sometimes, our upgrades include/require a new default theme. That was the case here. In exchange for having to learn a new layout, you get better rendering on tablets and phones. These, days, that's important. Ultimately, we'll reach a wider audience. Whether that turns into more new or returning builders will depend on how well we treat the noobies.

The picture upload facilities have improved. I haven't tried them yet, but they look a lot easier to use. Drag and drop beats using Photobucket.

Notifications should be working now. If they aren't for you, please PM me.

Thank for taking the time to share this.

For those of you that still feel that the change was unnecessary, you're just going to have to deal with it.  It's been mentioned many times in many threads every time there is a change (because this is not the first time and it won't be the last) If you don't like it, don't come back.  I doubt any of you will do that though.  You'd rather come on here and complain about everything that the old version had.  Since this new format started, they have been integrating many of the old features.  It takes time.  Would you have rather the site be down for days until they get all of the old into the new?  You would have then complained about that!  Some of you, there is just no pleasing you.

I hate to think what will happen, if it hasn't already, when your testicles begin to hang lower than usual.  Who will you complain to then? How will you prevent them from getting caught up in your zipper or slipping out of your shorts?

Change is everywhere!

Please allow the owners and Admins time. They invest their personal time and money to giving us a great place to share our passion for this hobby...and yes, shut up and go build something!

Hey 'Iceman'; you running for an Admin spot here? Thanks for reading the riot act; the last thing needed here.

We all got that change was needed for tech reasons pages ago.

And I have been building something for the last year and a half, steady. There's 37 pages of it in WIP.

Any more sage advice?

Not sure how you think this was directed at you.  I take it you're one of the many that IS complaining and you felt the need to defend yourself....Well done. We're proud of you.

I'll manage just fine Joel. Of course you'll never have that problem, not having any testicles just might be a benefit. Let me know how you make out.

 BURN!  I forget it's like going back to middle school with some of you.  So many ways to respond to your immature comment.  But I'm not willing to stoop that low.  You're obliviously too young to understand, I'm sure.

Cue more immature responses, threats or additional complaints in

You took it wrong. No defensive statements in anything I wrote. Quite the opposite in fact. Have a 9 year old read it to you so you can understand; there is not one complaint in any post I made here. I asked to have 2 features restored and suggested that a small advanced notice and instruction on changes would have avoided this clown show.

Well, to answer one point made above, I am one that would rather of had Gregg and Dave shut the site down for a few days to get it right. Just my preference, probably not most. Either way it is over and done for the most part. Still hoping some of the old functions and features come back at some point. They've all been mentioned many times so I am not going to re list them.

Second, I am not seeing the improvement in using the site on my Android phone. To me it is worse.  So much worse that I had to quit using my phone to access the site. Maybe it is just me that is the problem there, I honestly don't know.

A car forum I am on just went through this a couple or so months back. At first the "new" forum looked and acted like something from another planet. The admin people there were able to change things so that for the most part the features and functions and especially the look and feel of the new forum were able to be changed enough to make it feel about 95% like the older version. Don't know if that is a possibility here or not. It definitely took a lot of work behind the scenes to accomplish it.

One thing I asked for in another topics was for any problems or anything that you would like to see fixed, or changed, or any other features to try and set up.

What was not needed was this B.S.

I have issued warnings on other topics, and this.

I will delete accounts.

There is more to this than just an upgrade.

It's moving forward.

Getting this to work better everywhere, on every device, for everyone.

Yes, you have opinions.

Yes, you don't like change.

Yes, there are bugs.
I don't need the sarcasm, nasty comments, rude remarks, and the bickering/fighting.

If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything.

My parents taught me that when I was a keiki, and I still follow that today.

Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself

If you want to yell, scream, and throw insults at someone, then that is probably what you want yourself.

But, unfortunately for you, you will be banned and deleted from this forum.

Here is what I have gathered so far:

"Under the old format when you visited say the workbench section. The threads you had not looked at were highlighted by bold type, and the ones you had looked at were in a thinner /smaller  type. This to  made it easier to know which threads I had looked at. Another example is the double spacing here. I did not set that up, and am having a bit of trouble finding a fix to go back to single spacing"

"Wish I could preview my remarks with the button we used to have. But I'll just reread them several times."

These are comments I need.

Yes, prior comments were right, I am looking into themes that are out there, but heh, guess what? They cost money.

You have an endless bank account you want to share?

(Yes, that's sarcasm, for a reason)

I'm learning stuff on this every time I log in.

I don't have the luxury of doing a test forum.

For one thing, this forum is too huge to migrate into a test site.

I could make a new one, test it, but that's the same issue of physically being able to do it.

This is the new look, and guess what? It will change again.

It will get better.

And yes, if you don't like it, you can leave.

And those sarcastic comments, and even changes to avatars and signatures will be treated as abusive behavior, and dealt with accordingly.

If you have constructive comments, or criticisms, let me know.

If you want B&M about things, well, sorry for your loss.

Getting used to it, not so bad anymore, but I am still wondering if our friends list will reappear?

One thing on the upgrade for mobile was this:

Mobile-friendly by default

The IPS Community Suite uses responsive design, meaning it automatically adjusts to look and work great on any device, whether it's a desktop, tablet or phone. Don't expect a crippled experience - everything works the same regardless of the device you use.

It's not just for members either - our AdminCP is also fully responsive, letting you manage your community while on the go.

That's why I pushed for it.

Will check the updated list, with Lee's addition.

You're talking about a huge corporation verses the little guy in Hawaiʻi

Not a fair fight.

But, we never give up…

Hi,

I just wanted to mention this as I did before but it seemed to be glanced over or ignored.

Sites that are not resposive will recieve a low page ranking from Google.  This is a kiss of death and so all sites either play ball or take the fall.

MCM must keep up to stay relevant.

My wife insisted on doing my site for this very reason.  Did I like my old one, sure.  Do I like my new one, no...  I love it!

True...all the corporate sites I've developed in recent years have had responsive design and mobile/tablet support as major requirements...

(I've noticed the quoting in reply works a bit funky, though...somehow I got a Tom G quote in my reply and can't get rid of it..)

I noticed that too Rob!  At first I thought that the entire chain of quotes on the subject was cool, but it doesn't edit well. See above! When I quote someone, I will edit down their post to the sentence or two I'm responding to, so that folks don't have to reread their entire post.  I also delete the photos etc, unless that one specific photo is what I'm responding to, again to save board space.

I did know you had quoted me because there's the little "Notifications" bell at the top of the page. When it has a red circle number in it, you can see where someone has quoted you.  I like this feature a lot.

One cool thing I just noticed is that there's an arrow at the pops up at the top right corner of every quote (if you hover), when clicked takes you back to that specific post.

I haven't found a way to delete quoted blocks (the content within the block can be deleted, but the block itself stays).  It's weird, when I'm composing a reply I see the quoted blocks (gray bar on the left side) but not the name..

Mobile-friendly by default.   That's cool.  That's progress.

Now, I just wish this site could make me mobile-friendly!      The biggest thing I don't like about my newest smart-phone is that it seems to be smarter than I.

Yikes!   That IS scary.   I suppose it'll be a new genre of horror films.  "I Know Who You Called Last Summer!"
