19nova72 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Nice twin screw day cab. I have both the Jimmy and the Astro. Some day I will get up off my lazy butt and build both! Thanks for the pics, Rod.
Foxer Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Aww ... my daughter's '85 Van is way too small for this thread ... but that blue Astro I really like!

They were very small and I would imagine not as easy to use for seeing to the rear. I used these because they are rare. I also prefer the larger mirrors.

Ok , i never brought this or the chevy kit back in the 70's because i thought they were the only mirrors in the kit . I only found out later on that there was a choice of mirror .

My truck was built from the latest reissue of the Astro kit, but the mirrors came from an original issue Chevy Titan kit. I believe only the original Astro/Titan kits had these mirrors. Nice Titan, Ken. I love the background, too.
jacobus Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 here is a old build from some years ago [ with turn signal jim , on the right side now ] and tanktrailer jacobus
k.blackwell Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 What were the engine colors on the GMC caovers in the 70's??
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Great looking trucks here. I built this one about 18 years ago, and gave it to my brother about 10 years ago. I was at his house today and snapped a couple of photos.

astroracer Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 This is my GMC... I built it in 2001-2002.
leafsprings Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 1960 GMC . Conversion parts were purchased from Modelhaus a few years back.
Jim B Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Here's my 1976 GMC Astro/95 that I finished back in February 2010: And my 1976 Chevrolet Titan/90 that I finished in April 2012: And together: Kieth, GMC & Chevrolet had the engines in their trucks painted OEM colors as far as I can tell.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Those are some good looking trucks!! The paint job on the orange one looks awesome!
GearUpJammer Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Very nice trucks!Jim,that orange Jimmy looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor!
Jim B Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Thanks, guys, I appreciate the comments. The orange & white GMC was painted by a friend of mine for me. I can't paint that well! I was going for the factory fresh look for an O/O. It has steerable front axle; fifth wheel release handle; 1976 New York license plate;, custom GMC mud flaps; KFS P/E stacks; aluminum horns; steel deck screen; and the rear suspension, 1/4 fenders, & wheels from the AMT GMC General. The Chevrolet is basically box-stock but I did use the horns from the Revell snap KW (or was it the Peterbilt?), door decals are from the AMT International 4300, fifth wheel release handle, mudflap decals from JBot, and a second exhaust stack from the GMC Astro.
