From what I gather on the pics, the flat area that the bumper mounts to would need to be cut off, filler sanded and then the flat area glued back in place, further back. Is this what you mean?

Yes, but.....

Underneath that area is where the front frame rails sit. You'd have to shorten them as well. Not impossible, but my modeling time is limited and my skills in cutting and filling aren't the best, so I'll leave that area alone.

Also, there are end filler pieces that go into the corners of the filler panel, those would have to be altered as well if you shorten the length of the filler panel.

Thanks, I'll have to look at it when in hand. The side filler pieces are not even with the bumper anyway, so that is not a big deal.

As for cutting and filling.... it is plastic, we do our best to hack it to what we want it to be. LOL.  Check my Correcting the 57 Ford thread. Cut sand, glue fill.... Had a plan of sorts and winged it. HAHAHA

Thanks, for the review, Chris.

I watched a couple others on Youtube, and yours was by far the best. Crisp Detail close ups, nice long looks at the trees, and a pleasant tone.

Well Done, and Thanks.

Looks like this is an okay kit after all. I'm not too crazy about it being so simplified, though, especially it would have been nice to have a properly detailed engine with lots of parts. Engine bay with molded in batteries and other parts is a bit disappointing, too, but I can live with that very well. Those stance mock ups look very good to me and I see nothing wrong with body shapes either. Being molded in color doesn't matter me at all, a good Primer will take care of that easily and actually I think it's even easier to do bodywork (Removing mold seams and sink marks etc) when body is molded in color.

I will pick up one of these for sure.

I'll be ordering myself a few of these. What's sad is that they did not contact one of the owners of the TV Hero cars to get the kit screen accurate, but that's what we're for right?? LOL

A few of the areas I would like to change would be to add the body side moldings, chrome mirrors, bucket seat interior, 460 V8 and deep and shallow slot mags. Are there any kits around that would have a 460 Ford carbureted engine and automatic? The tires look to be pretty accurate big-n-littles but where could I score the wheels?

Thanks guys!

Man, I could swear once upon a time Arii had a poly washer set with some rubber BFGs that would have had about the right pattern - like the ones Marc Nellis has at the bottom of this post, iIrc:

Ma's Resin thread from a few years back

Of course, you lose a bit of period sidewall profile, but you also get rather less of the bias-ply look Revell's Blue Streak tires give you (for anyone who might have noticed that, and not a huge deal at any rate).

Also, if Revell-Monogram's decal stock were still that practically cellophane-stiffness material from decades back, I'd be right with Chris in his recommendation to remove the molded scripts before using them.  But since around 2000, R/M's been using a much more flexible and compliant, solution-compatible carrier.  So with that in mind, I'll offer the counterpoint that if you want a bit of 3D detail under those decals, they might just conform to the raised script with a bit of setter/softener - or at least, you don't really need to knock the molded scripts all the way down for the decals.

As you might have seen at "On The Bench", the engine isn't so badly compromised in detail; its chief problem is that it comes across neither fish nor fowl as a 351.  It looks like it has the Cleveland timing chain housing cast to the front of the block, but the rounded trapezoidal head design of the Windsor/Fairlane 221 family.  The Boss 302 used Cleveland heads modified for a Windsor block, but whether the reverse is at all typical of a built 351, I have no idea.

In my prep for block sanding, there appears to be no pigment leaching of any kind thru a few coats of Tamiya Fine White and a mist coat of Tamiya Fine Gray primers.  It looks pinkish ONLY where backlighting the translucency of the red plastic comes into play.

One thing when you are looking for a 1/1 car to measure and photograph......the owner must allow you to touch, climb all over and at times tape materials to the subject to get shapes and profiles correct. So at times,  owners of really valuable vehicles, have a no touch rule......the 1/1 must also be convenient or near other subjects you can study too. I have no first hand info on the S&H car....but this is how it was years ago when I helped out with a few vehicles. 3 model cars in the RM line all lived within a mile of each other in NC......3 got to help with. So it can be a combination of 'whys'.

I just fit the S&H Torino frame under a Johan 72 Torino. It appears to fit okay, and if it needs adjustment, I will do it. I sliced open the Gran Torino Sport hood open so the engine will show.

I overheard someone in a facebook group saying that they spoke to Revell and they plan to issue it in white like next spring or something like that

I hope that rumor is true. And when they do, I hope they give us some Magnum 500s too.

The 70s AMT Ford trucks all had 460s with C6s. Not really a bad looking engine either I didn't think. The 70 Ford Torino from Revell also as the 429 is identical from the outside.

I picked mine up last Saturday. I brought a JoHan '72 Along for the comparison.

The two are surpisingly close to each other size wise.

I blocked the new kit, and removed the mold lines when I got it home.

I still have not made my decision on the direction of this one. By the time I get around to it, Revell may be doing it in white, where I may take the '72 body, and combine it with one to make a '73. That is if I can scratch build a grille.

What AMT billed as a 460 in their F350s was actually an FE series 360/390, Travis. The exhaust manifolds and intake/cylinder head interface give it away.

Just finished mine tonight...take some photos tomorrow.  That's two S&H completes for me.....started the 3rd tonight.

(one Bill Elliott Cup NASCAR racer and one S&H version)

I got to talk to Revell at Toledo NNL......the delay was to get it right. The tool maker n China just could not get the car right from the A pillar back. In my opinion they did right by re-tooling it until it was right.

While many folks don't like the subject matter and praise kits like the new 29 Ford......this is an important kit. It came about  when Revell was looking for a iconic car, think Duke's Charger, that had never been done before in plastic kit. There is a film about the most iconic cars in TV and film. Of the six cars featured in the show....the S&H car was the only car never kitted. So it was picked....and a good choice IMHO. Good kit....builds well....opens many other builds......like a 72 notch back being shown here.....a number of famous race cars from NASCAR and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

I myself thank them for it.

Kudos to the effort to make it right .But they did miss correcting one detail. The back of the rear side window should have a small kink in it-like a BMW (see the pic of the real car on the box). The model doesn't and I think that's where most of the original criticism of the window shape originated.

I agree it's not perfect....I can't see the issue you note.....but I may be blinded by my love for the car!!!

After building two so far....my issue is the wheel arch trim. Back trim is a little heavy....but easy to foil!!! Front trim is almost missing....left side worse than right........DIFFICULT  to foil.   thx

Patiently waiting to see Dave's 2 finished cars. If I like the Bill Elliot version, I'll buy one kit and make one. I can't see myself building the S&H version or a showroom version, we'll see!

Got time to take some quick pics.....enjoy.......

Got my S&H Torino build #2 complete. A pretty much box stock build other than wheels and tires. I still have to add the front tag....it was drying still. Box stock build with Tamiya Bright Red paint. Kit decals went on very well and reacted well to Walthers Solvaset to help on curves.
The S&H build next to my first build of Bill Elliott's NASCAR Torino.....Bill's very first CUP ride.

Added plug wires just for fun.

You can see that the ARII slots and BFG tires are bigger than stock. Maybe a tiny bit to big....but a very 70's look for sure......my real 66 Mustang had tires much too large in 1976!!!

I really like this kit.......

Bill's CUP car is sitting on a Monogram Thunderbird chassis. Testors custom mix white and #1108 blue. Penngwen Hobbies decals.

I know this kit is not evertones favorite recent issue. But the kit is well done and is designed to bring new folks into the hobby. When Revell looked at the iconic cars of TV and movie....all had been done in plastic but the S & H Torino. And with the demise of all Duke's kits.....this could be the go to kit for newbies and grandma's across the country. Either way, like it or not, an important kit for the hobby. I plan on another 4-5 builds.........the 'Dude's' up next.....

Dave, saw the Elliot car in NNL coverage. Looks great, urging me to do the LeMans car. Stock build looks fun too. Await your "Dude" build.

Hmm, of course last time I touched one of those kits I was 12 maybe.

^ Dave Van...love your Elliot NASCAR version, hunkered down and aggressive. You've sold me on this kit. Nice job.:)

Thanks sir!!  The start of Bill's NASCAR carrer started about the same time as mine......mine was just in licensing....not as exciting as driver!!
