Michael J Corcoran Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 My first (and only, so far) full custom build. Started out as a parts box shell that had been previously built and rebuilt. I used a few parts from a new kit, a bunch from the parts boxes, and a lot of scratch made parts. Chopped, channeled & stretched. Most of the interior is scratch made, including the door cards, wired and plumbed the engine. Hope you like it.
hgbben Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Killer transformation out of a not so great kit. Stellar
restoman Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Like it? I love it! That looks great! Nice job. I just finished a VR pick-up from the same poor kit.
High octane Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 A nice build Michael and I see that you added "future tinnitus" in the rear seat area as well.
DumpyDan Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Nice chop, got that to line back up nicely. Cool all around!
rmvw guy Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Pretty cool I must say! I like the way you stuck the license plate on like you see a lot on motorcycles and such. Also nice use of the Flames. Love it!
Lunajammer Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Duuude. You are totally underselling yourself. That's a lot of work and everything came out right.
Michael J Corcoran Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 Thank you all for the kind words. I'm a total newby with chopping, customizing and scratch building. I had a vision going into this first attempt, and tried my best to hold true to the form I had in my head.
Spex84 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Nice work! Especially if you're new to chopping and scratchbuilding. It turned out great. The speaker grilles look like pipe filters? That's a cool touch.I had that pink VW kit as a kid, and now I only have some little shreds of plastic left from it after I attempted to customize it and made a terrible mess. One of these days I'm tempted to get another and build a volksrod out of it.The large-diameter painted 5-spoke mags on this build are a little unusual, and I like them. What kit are they from?
Davewilly Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 very nice! I want to build one of them someday....I even have that kit in my stash...well it was built already but is in a baggy cause some parts came off in a move so I bagged up to make a rod out of it...someday
Michael J Corcoran Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 The large-diameter painted 5-spoke mags on this build are a little unusual, and I like them. What kit are they from? The wheels are from a 62 Corvette convertible snap kit that my son built when he was about 6. Unfortunately the car didnt survive too many years, but he is still building, and better at it than I was at his age.
58 Impala Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Sweet! Killer bug, best custom I've seen in a long time.
