I have an old Monogram NOB kit that just doesn't show up on any kind of search I can think to try.

It's a Tom Daniel Horn Toad. Box has a 1971 date and copyright on it.

Cant even find many pictures of this model online.

Is it rare, or just not worth anything?

It's rare and very valuable. That kit was retooled into a delivery version. Neither has been reissued for a long time.

Search it on E-bay. Take your time to watch a few auctions. 200.00 to 300.00 and up is what I have seen.

Like the styrene molecular structure.

Huh, and to think i was going to kit bash it.

Now I don't know what to do.

Has anyone ever built this kit other than box stock?

Just wondering, can't find any on the inter web.

In the meantime will put it back in the styrene safe.

My book shows a 71 release kit #twice 5967 and kit #5987 (this as the Tom Daniel named kit) in same  year and then in 73 as kit # 5967. The Tom Daniel having the highest value 120 but the book is a 2011 release.

Unless it's something I'm really into, when a collectable kit falls into my hands I will normally sell it. The money I get for it will buy a lot of building supplies to help me with the kits I already have plans for.

I would build it if I had an idea to make it unique. Plastic is plastic ...

I think I'll just keep in the vault for now.

Andy, does that book you have say anything about how many were produced for each release number?

No it does not give production numbers. Just year of release that they figure out. The Directory is the name of the book. I buy it at the NNL Nationals . They are not perfect but do a very good job with the kit numbers and such.

I'm wondering if it's normal for the shrink wrap to be so loose on a Kit of this Series?

Yes, the early shrink wrap was very brittle, cracked easily and came apart often.

The box I have is marked 5987-0100.

It is opened, but only the four rims have been removed from the chromed tree. The seats have also been cut free.

I just noticed that the steering wheel is cracked," dang it! "

The chrome is quite poor over all.

Maybe I should clean everything up, have the chrome re-done and build it.

The decals will also have problem's too, after so long in the box.

It's funny, I just can't find any pictures of what people have done with this kit.

I'm thinking just a little bit of extra detail.  Or just plain over the top with some Richard Carroll tires

and better rear suspension. Is there a source of those tires? ( Okay so I'm old and I remember those things).

Yes rare first issue was green ,second issue was yellow with smaller tires ,them the molds were modified the Rattler and that kit

is more rare ,only issued one time them dropped . Hope you build it it's worth it .

The rattler is more rare then the Horn Toad?  I opened mine just to see if I could get that mold release smell I remembered as a kid. It was long gone.

You have the original at hand so you could use that for a copy. Just ask the guys that make decals.

That is true Kurt....some guys can make new ones for you for it.  Old box arts are cool love them I use a thumb tack and push it through the bottom of the box into the wall then slide the cover over the bottom to display it...no harm to the box ether...just an idea for you.

i agree. in my view, it is more interesting to build those old, rare kits as let them "like gold" laying in the shelf. i always like the smell, when i open those old boxes and i'm really pleased to get my hands on it. imo, it is another feeling of building like the new stuff.

i would like to see a "whats in the box".

I use eBay as a quick reference tool to judge the value of a kit. I always look at what people are paying for them, not what sellers are asking for them. Those two things can be waaayyy different!!! Lol
