CometMan Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Hi all, just picked up the new Revell kit, looks like a very nice kit that will be a fun build! Its probably a simple reissue of the 2 in 1 kit from a few years ago with new decals, but I am a pace car fan and Cady decals are getting pretty hard to find, so they are greatly appreciated! But I would have rather the kit be $5 or so cheaper then pay for a figure I will never use. Has anyone else gotten this kit yet? And what do you think?
CometMan Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 OK guys this is my first try at posting pics, so I hope I get it right! There are two grilles, two hoods, two trannys, decals for both the Hurst and 442 versions, the interior is all separate pieces, the lenses are clear or red, uptop and boot, the only need for foil I have spotted so far is on the lock cylinders. In all there are 143 total pieces and is listed as skill level 5. Any other questions I can try to answer! Craig
Toner283 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Both hoods, the uptop, a 442 grille and a Linda Vaughn figure. Great value. I'm in for a couple for sure.

The best of all worlds in this kit. Two different grilles, the two different hoods, the soft top and top down boot. Plus Linda Vaughn figure. What's not to like? CometMan Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 Yeah, I'll probably have to get a couple more myself to kit bash with the Johan 70 442 and the 75 Cutlass to make the 70 442 and 74 Hurst pacers, or as donors if I find a resin caster making them.
CapSat 6 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Hey Craig, If you're interested in selling the figure, please message me. Thanks! -Bill S.
socal76 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 CapSat 6, you beat me to what I was going to post!
Robberbaron Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Sweet!!! They also included the "standard" Cutlass Supreme hood - didn't expect that! Looks like they basically combined some of the unique parts from the previous "Revell Muscle" Cutlass Supreme (standard hood and uptop) with the original H/O kit, plus gave us the correct 442 grille. About the only thing missing is the custom wheels/tires from the Cutlass Supreme kit, but I didn't expect those anyway. With the 2 hoods, that really makes this a 3 in 1 kit. You can build it as a 442, the Hurst/Olds, or as a "standard" Cutlass Supreme. Definitely need to get several of these now, similar to when they reissued the '70 Torino with the corrected body.Note to Revell: THIS is the effective way to separate me from my money!
satterwhite78 Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I was up in my garage looking over my stash for the next project to start on. I came across the Revell 72 Cutlass convertible (not the special Edition 1st release) and a AMT 70 Monte Carlo body that I had. It appeared to me that the M/Carlo roof and the roof of a 72 Cutlass hardtop are similar.....as to which the question I am posing is....Would the Roof of the M/Carlo and cutlass hardtop of the two actual cars the same or were they different between the two GM divisions? I know that Missing Links offers a resin hardtop and that would save a lot of hacking, cutting, puttying, Etc......but the roof line of the two look eerily similar? Any comments?

I did a conversion when the kit first came out, doing that exact thing. I had to do quite a bit of work to get it to work. The side windows, sail panels, and tulip panels had to be reconfigured. However, I was quite a satisfying build. I may do it again, to do this car... From what I see with the new version, it is what the kit should have been in the first place. I see a couple of them in my future.
Mr Stock Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Hmm with all the extra parts in this kit I may have to get one of these too. I have the original special edition kit can anybody tell me what is wrong with this actual kit, Im sure I heard someone mention it has the wrong grille to build a certain version, sorry Im not familiar with the model differences.

There are two thread here had goes into explaining this. Both are very good threads, that maybe need to be linked in someway to/from this one. Something, I'm afraid I do not know how to do. Brett Barrow Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) The original Hurst/Olds kit was marketed as a 2 in 1 with the option to build a 442, but it (and the follow-up Cutlass Supreme kit) only had the eggcrate grille, which is only correct for Hurst/Olds and Cutlass Supreme models. This new one adds the correct 442 grille. It also adds the uptop and flat hood from the Cutlass Supreme kit, the original Hurst/Olds kit did not have an uptop. Edited December 3, 2015 by Brett Barrow
JTalmage Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 wow that does look like a cool kit. Might have to pick myself up one.

Need to do a replica of a friends old car . Just a plain old 350 2barrel cutlass convertible.
Casey Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 From what I see with the new version, it is what the kit should have been in the first place. I see a couple of them in my future.Had Revell included all the options in the first kit, there would be no need for subsequent modified reissues. Done the way they chose, they now have issued three individual kits with minor differences, and saved the best (well, most heavily optioned) kit for last, just like the Revell (nee Monogram) 1/25 '50 Ford pickup, and others.

Just a plain old 350 2barrel cutlass convertible.Sorry Bill, it does not come with a plain Cutlass grille. It now comes with a correct 4-4-2 grille and a Cutlass Supreme/Vista Cruiser/Hurst Olds grille. But, this is not a problem for what you want to do. In 1972 you could only get a Cutlass convertible as a Supreme, a Supreme with the 4-4-2 option package, or a Hurst Olds. So from the factory, the convertibles only came with either a Supreme/Vista Cruiser/Hurst grille or the 4-4-2 grille. The plain, horizontal bar grille found on the F-85, regular Cutlass, and Cutlass S was not offered on convertible. Since non of those levels of Cutlasses were available as convertible for 1972.I hope this clears things up.

( on this guys car, the grilles were broken and mostly missing. But I want to do a replica as it would look all done . He just sold the car last month after over 20 years of ownership and he really hated to see it go . )
Chuck Kourouklis Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Nice conversion to HTX2. REALLY good work, Ron. Revell's business model of starting with an over-promising "Special Edition" and then releasing an over-delivering version five or six years later is purest smh material, but damned if it ain't gonna work on me - gotta have it for that 442 grille now.
Bob Ellis Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 That's like Revell will convert the Del Rio into a Ranchero in 2 years, but I already did because I couldn't wait.
slammedi'am Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Im glad they finally did the correct grille for the 442...I still ended up getting a couple PE from model car garage just incase

That business strategy definitely seems like it sells more kits than including all the options in one kit...spread them out over multiple releases.. by the way, does this release include the uptop from the Supreme street machine version? I have one of the IPC ones on order, should have it this weekend... Edited December 4, 2015 by Rob Hall
