Well, the newly-tooled 1/25 Revell 1970 Hemi Cuda kit first hit the retail store shelves almost exactly 1 year ago.  Has anyone heard any recent information regarding what the next possible version of this kit might be and when it might be hitting the retail store shelves?

It's been more than year, hasn't it? I thought it came out at least two, maybe three years ago now?

It's been over 2 years, sometime in 2013 IIRC.   The first test shots showed up at the NNL in Oct 2012..at least that's when the main thread of discussion here started...

From going through the 23 pages of the first post here regarding the initial release of this kit, I understood that the first release hit the retail shelves in late November of 2014.  At least that's when several forum members first posted about getting their hands on one!  I could easily be mistaken, but the point of this post isn't really "when" this kit first came out, but that it seems like there has been very, very little discussion about the next version of it for a long time.

Does anybody have any updates about what might be coming next from this tool... and when?

Since Revell hasn't announced anything, any future releases are unknown at this point..

Late November 2013.  I found my own post from Dec 2, 2013 where I commented about having 2 on order in that thread.

I don't know more than anyone else, but I'd LOVE to see a Hemi convertible come out of this tool. ;)

Definitely would be nice.... years ago, I started making one from the MPC '74 w/ '70 conversion parts, but never finished it..

HA! I have the same parts! I was going to attempt building it, but then Revell announced the new tool 'Cuda. I could make one from the current kit, but as soon as I would start it Revell will announce that a kit will be made.

Yeah, I have 4-5 sets of those conversion parts...from Perry's Resin about 15 years ago IIRC.

Just to reconfirm...the Revell 'cuda kit came out in the fourth quarter of 2013 (not 2014).  Those of you with a reference library of model mags can see the eight-page article I did on this kit in the other car magazine in late 2013.  The Sox and Martin version came along in the summer of 2014 I believe.

When I was trying to get Revell to consider this kit, starting in the early 2000's and right through to 2010 or so, I always pitched the '70 Hemi 'cuda convertible as being the most logical choice (based on the 1.1 values and collectibility), so I would love to see one in scale.  But alas, I've heard absolutely zero about any future spinoffs of this kit, convertible or otherwise.  But contrary to what some of you guys think, i do not know everything that is going on at Revell (in fact, i don't know much of what goes on there in future kit development), so let's hope we are all surprised with another derivative of this kit sometime in the future.

I  think a "phantom" AAR convertible would be cool. :)

You could bash it with the existing hardtop to have a proper AAR coupe AND a hemi convertible. ;)

I personally thought that the 70 Hemi Cuda was the number 1 overlooked best seller kit that could be tooled, but I don't think sells were anywhere near expected levels. Maybe that's why we haven't seen a modified reissue.

After building JoHan's '71 Sox & Martin dual plug pro stockHemi Cuda, I was good to go and I passed on the Revell 'Cuda kits.

The errors in the kit might have something to do with that. The wheel lip flares and the wrong body line down the side of the car just kill it for me .

Which is a shame as I have wanted a new 1970 Cuda kit for a LOOOOOOONG time. Thankfully I hung onto my original issue builtups I have

It's been 2 years.  Our last preorder was on 11/25/13 and our first regular stock order was 11/29/13.   Sox & Martin version came in July 2014.

Sales have been great* between the S&M and stock versions, I don't know where you all are getting (or just plain assuming) that it hasn't done well.     2 versions were planned from the design phase (which is the norm for Revell today), the fact that the second version followed so closely the first should be taken as a sign that it did well.

*for this day and age.

I think it's a great question. I was also wondering what might come next Wich I have absolutely no answer for. I would imagine that Revell has some sort of an idea what is coming next. As far as the very minor issues with the original kit, I am a modeler I fixed the problem and had fun doing it . Also I would never ever insult anyone so please don't take what is coming as an derogatory. I have a hard time believing that some people would not buy a kit because it's  ( usually minor ) issues. But I guess some people do take a pass on some kits . I just think that this kit is an excellent, awesome kit and for me  I'll just fix it and have a real nice cuda on my shelf. Thank you.    Jeff

This is something James Duff has pointed out a few times when modified reissues are discussed, and I tend to agree with him, especially when one takes the time to look at Revell's pattern regarding all-new kits of the past six or seven years. '50 Olds, '57 Ford Sedan, '72 Cutlass, etc. Two versions of the same basic kit design are what we should realistically expect from any given bi-scale Revell subject, so I don't forsee any "additional" kits based on the '70 Hemi 'Cuda.

The first version first batch sold out fast. I got one of that batch that had the 7 cylinder distributor. The Sox and Martin batch had a corrected 8 cyl distributor. I got one of those from that batch and a friend of mine was so excited for the kits but could not get them anywhere! Everyone was sold out at that time. I traded him both kits for a vintage kit I really wanted! (MPC 68 GTO) Then when the second batch of 70 Hemi Cudas became available, I got one of them and it had the corrected distributor! I would love to see a 70 Hemi Cuda conv also but I already built one years ago from the 71 kit.

Yes, I was assuming, because they seem to be setting on the hobby shop shelves and aren't plentiful on the contest tables. I haven't heard any numbers from Revell.

They don't sit on my shelves for very long.
