Rdkingjay Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Grabbed this from ebay a couple of years ago and while the rarity of these things has jacked the price, I was very disappointed in the final finish of the model. It came with its original box and base, but I wanted to display it, so I completely disassembled it, sanded, then re-cleared it. I followed that up by a three stage polish process. While the car was in pieces, I decided to light the headlights and give the interior a red glow that one of the real movie cars had in a scene of the original movie. Which coincidentally, is also one of the few scenes in the movie, that the car has a very clean glossy finish. Hope you enjoy it. Merry Christmas. 3
cobraman Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 That's real cool. You only need to add the horn.
Rdkingjay Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 Agreed! I have not been able to solve that one yet though...
Belugawrx Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Very Cool,,. Nice save Cheers and Merry Christmas
Yenkocamaro Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Nice! looks much better, but wasn't the movie car like a satin black? Been a long time since I've seen the movie, so I could be wrong. Happy Holidays!Cheers,Lance
Rdkingjay Posted December 23, 2015 Author Posted December 23, 2015 Yes Lance, i believe your right, satin black or at least filthy enough from all the dust and dirt roads to appear satin. There was one scene however, when the town Sheriff found the car in his garage and it appeared to be very shiny. This was also the scene when the mysterious red glow can be seen in the interior.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 For the horn sound, go to radio shack an look for a quarter size recording mic/ speaker player unit for around ten bucks. You can record anything on the unit an then it can be played back through the speaker at a switch of a button.
CometMan Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Very cool!! I haven't seen that movie in many years!
Earl Marischal Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 According to IMDB the vehicle is gloss black.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075809/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trvsteve
Sixx Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 That's awesome! I wished it could be in 1/24th -1/25th...I'd love that!
Hal Whiting Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Not that I think this is a current topic but I had some experience with this. The car was originally very glossy but it reflected the camera equipment as it would pass by. So it was taken to a body shop in St George Utah where it was buffed down to diminish the reflective qualities. I know this because I went to the body shop and sat in the car until the movie crew were heading up and I had to sneak out. The body shop was located at 1000 East St George boulevard. Some of my friends were extras in the movie but I was not. 1
Old Nasty Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 One of Barris's few really good designs in my opinion.
Maindrian Pace Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 I always wanted a full scale replica to drive around in. The base Lincoln MK III is still pretty easy to get, the rest is up to your 1:1 model building skills.

I have been off the forum for a couple years restoring a 1:1 Trans Am, and started looking at my old posts to see what i missed. The Car is one of my favorite movies, so when a diecast came up for sale, i grabbed it. It was more work than I thought it would be, but worth it, and displayed in my case to this day. Take care.
Bugatti Fan Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) Not a die cast but there was a trader at IPMS UK Scale Modelworld at Telford last year selling 3D printed kits of this subject in 1/24th scale. Edited January 24 by Bugatti Fan
