It's always nice to get one done during the holiday break. After a botched paint job (the clear had a disagreement with decals), and some bodywork that I just never got to liking, I scored a second body. It sat in primer while I waiting for inspiration. At some point, it became clear that it was just time to rat it out and try some new weathering techniques. I think it came out pretty well. Feel free to tell me what you think.

all kinds of good stuff / ideas but the decals ain't workin for me.:(

Yeah, lots of "silvering" on that hood decal. But on the plus side, I love the interior. Very cool "blankets."

I was shooting for something very different with these decals. The decals looked fine until I hit them with dullcoat. I may try to remove them. With a coat of dullcoat it'll be tough.

Looks alot like the Cars that one might have seen in the San fernando Valley in the lat e50's and early to mid 60's (although that Engine woulda been the ultimate Sleeper, I'm not sure a 6 volt battery would have ever been found sharing the engine bay with it ) I Really Do like the Inkjet Printing onto thin cloth for Upholstery idea!!

Great model Rob. Real nicely done. Are the white walls AMT?

Carl, I'm pretty sure they came from the Revell '49 Merc.

Thanks very much for the compliments guys. I'm glad you like it. Although I used a different material (what I used isn't cheap or readily available), I'm told there are now printable cloth kits available from Joannes and the like (for quilting) that might allow you to create Indian blankets.

Try a piece of scotch tape. The decals should come right off.

If you do that again here's a method I just used.

I stripped and repainted some resin "crates" for my Opel Blitz build because the decals did what yours did. I repainted them because I didn't like "the look" when completed.

I applied the original decals on a well cured gloss coat, but they silvered when dull coated. . After repainting and re-glossing the surface, I applied the decals in a puddle of Future. They laid down real nice after brushing the excess Future over them. Dull coat and all is well.

Came out nice! I've taken to calling these "therapy" builds - you build them with the express goal that they will get completed, and strategize accordingly. I did a 10 day build myself over the Holidays (to be posted later today) and I chose they primer route to make sure I would get 'er done. But primer can be deceiving. It's very sensitive to handling, dirt and the "slings and arrows" of the build process so I'm not convinced it's such a time saver. But at least you can worry less about the ,ultimate quality of the finish. I need to get more into weathering now, like on your model. It looks great. All the best for 2016,Looking forward to more fine models from your bench this .coming year.

very cool-how did you do the blanket

The blanket, as I did it would be hard for most folks to replicate. I used a very thin lint free cloth. This is something not used very much outside machine shops and clean room laboratories. They are 8.5"x8.5", are thin enough to feed through a printer (barely), come in bags of 500 and are quite expensive. Gun cleaning patches are made of the same stuff. A 3"x3" shotgun patch would be a good size, but you would have to make your own pattern with fabric markers which I have done before. Another option that a member on my FB group came up with this idea.

This is what I used.
