k100 Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 It all looks great , I really like what you did with the cab. Where can I get one of those Choppers?
Old Buckaroo Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 A quick mock up for pg 3. The top of the doors have the KW taper removed and the vent window has been relocated. I have also pretty much have found all the little gremlins on the cab. Lots of Mr. Surfacer 500 to fill small imperfections. Now the real work starts - Making the cab mounts and cutting the grill where it will pivot. Thanks for looking in
Canso65 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Your putting on a model building clinic Sean!I'm really enjoying following along.
tbill Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 you do realize we have more than a week to do these builds, right? lol, j/k man, this is looking fantastic, keep at it man!
Old Buckaroo Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 you do realize we have more than a week to do these builds, right? lol, j/k man, this is looking fantastic, keep at it man!Ha, you dont know me very well. The more I look at something the less I like it. Those cab vents were aggravating me the more I looked at them, so out came the chisel bladed knife and off they went. Made 4 more up that are not so fat looking - back to fixing gremlins.
GearUpJammer Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) I'm also enjoying following this build! There was a lease operator in the late 80s at a place that I used to work at that had a Royale and I always thought they were cool trucks.Looks spot on! Edited January 9, 2016 by GearUpJammer
Olskoolrodder Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Wow,you're getting it done fast,LOL,looking better n better too,nice
Old Buckaroo Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 When I started this project I was using a computer drawing of a Reo Royale ,it was great for rough cab work. But my mistake was using it for vent dimensions, apparently they were exaggerated in size as to let you know they were there . So after round four (yes I made 4 different sets) I am satisfied with these. My other obstacle for the day was engineering the cab tilt. I did dislodge the right side vent window though But other then that I real happy today ! Thanks for looking in
gino Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 that looks great sean ! those vents look a lot better too !
gatorincebu Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) Sean, You are making really great progress on this build.I like the tilting cab. Be Well Gator Edited January 11, 2016 by gatorincebu
Tesla Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 This is shaping up quite well. The vents look just right.
Mopar - D Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Sean that tilt looks great with the grille split.
Brinx Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Thanks for this one Sean, My late friend Fred drove a 74 Royale...I think I'm going to follow your lead and try to do a tribute build.
Old Buckaroo Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 Thank you guys Mike that sounds like a real special build. Let me know if I can help you out with it. I searched and searched for suitable kit fuel tanks, nothing to be found. I made these out of pvc and styrene for the end caps and strapping. Thanks for looking in
kilrathy10 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Great work, Man....This thing is looking sharp.....
Brinx Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Thank you for the offer Sean, when the time comes, I will very likely be taking you up on it.
gatorincebu Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 The tanks look great Sean.Rob X's 2 i like those tanks a lot ! Be Well Gator
Old Buckaroo Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 (edited) Rob - Thank you JT - Great to see you stopping by and Thank you ! Mike - I am Not claiming to be an expert or building an exact replica but I sure will help you with what I have figured out on this one. Gator - the tanks were way easier then modifying kit ones. Heck of a lot less sanding and filler work. Today's little project - Rear cab mounts. Once again I used my artistic license to manufacture these. The pads even pivot Thanks for looking in Edited January 15, 2016 by Old Buckaroo
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Very Impressive!! I notice your transmission. Is it going to be a twin stick or an air shift?
Old Buckaroo Posted January 16, 2016 Author Posted January 16, 2016 Brian - I am not using that transmission , it is just there for counterbalance. Kevin - Thank you for stopping by ! Slow progress, I built the double decker battery box and finished up the rear cab mounts. And now I am dragging my feet - Piping , my Achilles Heel of a truck model. Thanks for looking in
