Greg Myers Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 With Revell's new "stock" height '48 Ford coupe not far off couldn't RM2 jump in as it were on their coat tails and cook up a "41 Ford Coupe?Seems like they could also get in on the Model A Roadster deal the same way.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 (edited) Revell's new '48 coupe sure will make it a lot easier to build a decent '41 coupe, if nothing else. I've been swapping the front sheet-metal on an old Testors / IMC '48, and it's not too bad. The scaling on both models (the AMT '41 woody and the IMC '48) matches pretty well. espo Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 When Revell releases a stock '48 Ford I would think the easiest thing to do would be to put the AMT front end from their '41 Woody on it.
lordairgtar Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 That's my plan. easier I think than the IMC kit
1930fordpickup Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Have I missed the posting of a stock roof height 48 Ford . I did see a picture of a cop car but I did not see where it said stock height. Did I miss it in the photo? They have given us a car with an incorect stock height before, just saying we could be making an assumption .
Art Anderson Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 When Revell releases a stock '48 Ford I would think the easiest thing to do would be to put the AMT front end from their '41 Woody on it.Easiest, and the only accurate way to do it, as 'the 1941 Ford front clip is very different from the '46-'48 Fords.
espo Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Greg, I'm not sure if you could use the '40 since it is very different from the '41 thru '48 Fords. The '41 and '42 Fords front sheet metal was unique to their model years. The '46 thru '48 are very close too one another with small trim differences and the front parking lamps seemed to move all over the place depending on what year you're looking at. I remember helping a friend put a '46 - '48 front end on his '41 after it had hit a drunken tree that didn't use the cross walk. That was a long time ago.
khier Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Well, would be great if Revell brings something like this in 1/25 and kit form:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcJyjDIKvEY

Remember this the next time someone starts moaning when the talk turns to kits we'd like to see.

The real '41-'48 Fords are entirely different (from the ground up) from the '40 (note: the '41 pickup is built on the the same platform as the '40) but parts will swap back and forth on the real '41-'48 cars with little difficulty. I've been fiddling with swapping the AMT '41 woody nose on to the Revell chopped '48. It looks to be pretty straightforward so far. (When I started on the IMC '48 swap, it was the only stock-roof available.)
Dave Van Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 Real car parts sellers like Carpenter group the 41-48 Fords together as the share many components. I know from my 1/1 parts buying!!!!
dino246gt Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 (edited) I built this one using the chopped Revell coupe. I'd expect most of the stock height roof Revell kit to be the same. Just don't expect the AMT front fenders to fit like a real car, leave some of Revell's fenders attached and make your splice a bit forward, something like my first picture. mike 51 Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 I think the old Monogram 55 ford panel has 41-like tailights...I can't remember if they are molded to the body or not.

Wow....Dennis, that bad boy just screams cool! Great job with the swap and with the other build details....TIM .

Yes, it does - they're separate pieces, chromed. Either paint the lenses or recast them in red resin.
