Hokay, the general consensus is that the big-n-littles in the Revell '32 Ford 3-window kit, and some others, are Goodyear BlueStreak Sports Car Specials, with the Goodyear and other sidewall lettering removed.

So far, so good. I have ONE PAIR of the old Goodyears, and other than the sidewall detail, they seem to be the same animals as the Revell '32 kit tires.

So...what kits did the ORIGINALS, the ones WITH the Goodyear BlueStreak sidewall details, come in?

I've already dug through all my old Revell kits and came up empty. I'm digging online now.

So far, it looks like they MAY be in this   20080824032642.JPG   and a Revell 1/24 Cobra.

Anything else? And are the tires staggered sizes in the Mustang and / or Cobra?

EDIT: Found this on another thread. "The Monogram 1/24 Shelby GT350-R, the Monogram 1/25 Owens-Corning Corvette, and R-M 1/25 Pro Modeler '48 Ford Convertible kits included the same tires with the raised letters still present", post by Casey.

Can anyone confirm they're in the pro-modeler '48 Ford?

'65 GT350R (the competition model), and at least one issue of the '68 Corvette roadster road racer. Maybe all the road racer issues, though not the stockers.

That's if I'm correctly understanding what it is you're looking for.

 Thanks, Snake. :D

Seems as though they're also pretty definitely in the pro-modeler '48 Ford convert, along with another set I can use.

I kinda hate to buy a Mustang or Cobra just to get the tires, but I can always use another '48 Ford. :D

I don't know if they would work, but Round 2 has tire sets and one of them is the Goodyear "Blue Streak" Slicks. They are Dragway Special size 9.00-15. They have the blue stripe and Goodyear raised white lettering. The tread is smooth, but then many of these tires in road racing where also.  You can get 8 in a package for less than the cost of a model with a discount coupon. If your hobby shop does not have them check with Hobby Lobby.

Thanks espo, but I need the specific treaded tires, and the diameter stagger that's in the '32 Fords, which is apparently the same as in the earlier kits with the "Goodyear" marked sidewalls. They're going under a Gunze Ferrari 250 GTO with a smallblock Chebby, and the diameters of these tires are exactly right for the look I'm after. They also have a groove for the blue "streak", and that's part of the look I'm going for too.

The GT-350 R kit pictured will have the lettered version of that tire.  In fact, it will have two sets because the kit needs four of the smaller "front" tires.  Mine had two sets when I bought it back in the day.  That first issue didn't seem to be around long, so it will probably be tough to find.  The reissue(s) in other boxes will likely have the no-name version of that tire.  Other kits to look for include the '32 Ford three-window coupe and Dan Fink Speedwagon (first issues of course).  The highboy roadster was out alongside those two but used different tires.  If you are looking at opened kits, check the tires because some sellers will swap the later ones in.  The next Deuce variant was the sedan.  I bought a couple of those right when they came out; just checked them and they have the no-name tires.  Since the three-window coupe came out after the sedan, it too will have the no-name tires.

The Revell-boxed 1/24 scale Deuce roadster (ex-Little Deuce) that comes with the cardboard McDonald's stand has the lettered tires.  Later ones probably won't.  There was a racing '68 Corvette (topless version with Owens-Corning sponsor markings) that had the lettered tires too, but that's not one you'll trip over at a swap meet.

All racing versions of the Revellogram 427 Cobra kit also have them.

I'm in the same boat as Bill with these tires. I've got eight AM Corvette Grand Sport kits with the badly molded concave Blue Streaks. I can't see unloading the kind of money that nine kits would cost just to get the tires. So, I'm getting Carrera urethane replacement tires. There are about five or six sets which look like Sports Car Specials with sidewall detail. $4.99 for a set of four sounds a lot better than $15-$20+.

I've got one set of Carrera tires; they look great (pad printed lettering and stripes) but the center holes are probably larger than the wheels in the AM kit.  I've got some turned aluminum rims that fit them, for some yet-undetermined project.  I picked up the one set of tires on closeout thinking the center holes were on the large side...once I figured out how to make use of them, the rest were sold out.  The ones I have seen since appear to be the same tire but with no brand name, only the color stripe...

Thom Taylor 34 roadster (I want one!)

68 Corvette L-88 racecar

1 or 2 versions of the Shelby Cobra

Obviously the '32 Ford and the GT350R

the blue 37-ish ford convertible w/ the little trailer had em too

Thats all I can think of...

There's a little shop that specializes in used model car parts that I frequent, and I dig thru the tire bins looking specifically for those tires with the lettering on em! Among others of course. Came away with quite a few.

Thanks for the heads up, Mark. I'll order a set and see if they might work. I don't feel like spending the extra money on a kit I really have no interest in just for the tires.

Speaking of which...does the old Monogram GT350 have the tires in question, or only the GT350-R version? It appears the 350H version has Michelin-lettered sidewalls.

And how are the proportions of the Mustang, anyway? I've kinda wanted to do a fastback, so I might be able to justify buying the whole kit if the body shapes look good.

Only the GT-350R has those tires.  The other variations (including the Shelby GT-350s) used Monogram Michelin TRX tires in the early issues, maybe something else later on.  The TRX tires had unobtrusive/smooth sidewalls and were about the right size, so those got used in a bunch of kits, even the early issue '67 Chevelle if I remember right.  The smooth sidewalls worked for applying decal whitewalls or red lines, I guess.

The fastback kits aren't bad, but look just a little "stiff" to my eyes.  All versions have headers, and most have a dual exhaust system that might be correct for the Shelby versions but not the garden-variety Mustangs.  The headlamps have clear lenses but not buckets (lenses attach to a relatively flat backing) so they look two-dimensional.  The suspension needs to be tweaked a bit to bring them closer to the ground, but that's typical of Monogram kits from that era.  The early issue Shelby versions sometimes had satin finish plated parts including bumpers (whose brainstorm was that?).  On the other hand, they did do that GT-350R version which has several unique parts including that "vented" back window.

Just checked the 2 copys of the '32 3 window coupe kits I have. Both have the lettered tires.

They're the first issue from '96.

Hmmmmm...I didn't know that, just assumed all the tires included in the '32 kits had been shaved. I've got a couple unopened ones on the shelf. Time to have a peek.

EDIT: Hot dog!  Youse guys are great. Turns out one of my '32 3-windows was in fact the '96 release, and it had TWO sets of the Goodyear-lettered BlueStreaks in it.

Man, I love this forum. :D

The blue '37 Ford convertible will have the lettered tires; again two sets (two small "front" tires for the trailer, four for the car, two large tires left over).

I hope this isn't seen as a hijack of this thread, but I'd like to know if there are resin versions of these tires, lettered or not.  I can't afford to buy kits just for tires, and I don't have a lot of parts to trade, so I'd just prefer to buy resin tires and have done with it.

TIA for any relevant info.

Do you mean these resin tires. I have done a few for my 60's and 70's Trans-Am builds. Let me know if you want a set.

Do these have the raised letters?
