bonehead23 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I heard that the Modelhaus proprietors are retiring soon. Sad. So this may be the last one I do...unless i can score another before they are all gone. This '58 Continental was expensive, but a really nice casting that will take very little work to finish.
mod3l Lover Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Wow, what a beaut! I can't wait to see this oneget built up. I'm also soooo bummed about the Holthausfamily giving up on the resin company theyhave!! I figured I would be able to buy a fewof their kits before I died, but it looks like itwill never happen now. Thanks for sharing, David S.
Sport Suburban Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Very nice, I also can't wait to see this one finished. I have supported Modelhaus and am sad to see that end but they have given us some great products for many years (decades). I'm sure their retirement is well earned. I have finished 3 or 4 full kits and have 5 more that I can think of off the top of my head still to build. I also have many finished builds with their parts plus many more unfinished restorations.
Foxer Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I loved the '58's. They must have built a lot or junked many judging by how many headlight sets were worn by customs of the day.

I Googled "1958 Lincoln" and there are hundreds of photos, some restored, some drivers, some a little ratty, some only good for parts!!! There sure are a lot of 58's out there though.
Rob Hall Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Not sure what my last Modelhaus kit will be, got the '62 Newport 4dr in the mail today, have the '61 Dodge Seneca on order. I figure I'll try and order a few more if they start taking orders again before they close for good.
Deathgoblin Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I keep hoping someone will buy them out and continue their work. I'm looking forward to seeing this one built, looks like it'll be nice.
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I keep hoping someone will buy them out and continue their work. I'm looking forward to seeing this one built, looks like it'll be nice. I'm still of this thought too. I just can't see the Holthaus's just packing up all of those molds & pitching them in the trash. There has to be a bit of cash wrapped up in all of that stuff. Now, the big question is, if someone does buy it, is it someone who will be able to do something with it, or someone who "wishes" they could do something with it & winds up biting off more than the can chew. MCW just recently sold off the paint portion of their business & the new owner is committed to carrying on with hopefully little interruption. I'll find out soon as I just ordered paint for the first time since the business changed hands. I'm relatively confident than something similar will most likely happen with Modelhaus.......Fingers crossed! Steve
Foxer Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 The product is known. It's time for an expansion. For someone keeping the quality and products moving.
bonehead23 Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Just a quick note about this Lincoln... The Modelhaus folks did some research on this one; the interior is correct in most respects, comparing it to some Google photos. The seat pattern is correct for a '58, and the dashboard is spot on, with all the right details. Of course, this is what we have all learned to expect from Don H. But while searching the photo files, I came across one small mistake. The steering wheel is NOT correct for a '58 Connie. Further searching revealed the wheel is actually a '57 Premiere piece!!! But trust me, nobody I know will ever see the difference. Other than that small "boo-boo" this kit is near-perfect. I also pray that someone continues with their product. I'll buy them no matter what the price. IF THE QUALITY survives the change!
gtx6970 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Now, the big question is, if someone does buy it, is it someone who will be able to do something with it, or someone who "wishes" they could do something with it & winds up biting off more than the can chew. My gut feeling is it'll be the latter. IMO, for it to continue forward it will have be someone well established and knows the business side of it / work involved. Then again, part of me thinks it may be sold In pieces, ( if its sold off at all ) someone will buy the tire and wheels molds, someone else will body the complete kit molds, someone else will by the parts molds , etc etc etc

This '58 Continental was expensive, but a really nice casting that will take very little work to finish.Modelhaus is finished for good next May, both are retiring. You can still order things now, but delivery is running about 20-24 weeks, and they shut the website down temporarily because of demand. It will be up again but not probably until end of May or early June, so they can catch up
High octane Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Very nice Stephen as I have the '59 & '60 Lincoln Continental convertible kits in my "stash." Hopefully someday I'll get around to building the '60 as the '59 was my very first AMT kit and I'm savin' it as is. I do have a few Modelhaus Olds kits and hope to build them someday also.
bonehead23 Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 I have as favorites a couple websites that have old kits. One had a 1960 Lincoln AMT kit There are a few other Lincoln kits out there...but the price is from $200-300.00 or higher. I paid less than a hun for this Lincoln...and though it does not have lake pipes, louvers and all that other "Custom" stuff, or decals, it is a hardtop. I did not want a convertible, which is why I went with Modelhaus instead of dropping 2oo bucks on a kit that just is not worth the price and a convertible to boot...depends on what you want. I did get a 1964 Cutlass kit just because I wanted it. If the prices weren't so outrageous for mint kits, I would already have that '60 convert.
bonehead23 Posted March 29, 2016 Author Posted March 29, 2016 In a perfect world, Jimmy Flintstone would take over where Mocelhaus left off...purchase all Don's stuff and continue to offer everything at reasonable prices...but I am dreaming .

bonehead23 Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 There are probably half a dozen people in the world who could pull it off and you named one of them!I have several Flintstone bodies, and though they aren't "complete kits" due to his high quality castings, I have converted some into mighty fine unique builds. I haven't tried any other resin than Modelhaus and Flintstone so i am ignorant of the other five!!!

One of my 60s could all most pass for mint in the box if you took it apart
Dogfish_7 Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Enjoying watching your rare build and it may be even rarer yet.
charlie8575 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I too, hope someone will make the move and step up or the family will continue the business and allow Don and Carol to enjoy life for a bit. Charlie Larkin
bonehead23 Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 Lincoln in Root Beer and pearl white...and the Kart which will be turned over to a friend to finish.
