Well I got an email this morning from megahobby saying that modelking has cancelled the release of the 1959 Rambler Cross Country. I had pre-ordered this kit and hopes to build it. Nearly six months later it gets canceled. Ugh so frustrating.

So they'll license Hudson but not Rambler, eh? Hmpf.

Re the video: Minor pet peeve - folks who use the term "Art Deco" for things that aren't.

That's interesting news.  Kind of sux big time!  Isn't Jeep all that's left of the AMC line?  Not like Chrysler is going to resurrect the Rambler name one day.  They have troubles of their own, just keeping themselves in business.

One of my Dad's work beaters was a '59 Rambler Cross Country.  One day he stopped at the bank, ran in to cash his paycheck.  When he came out there was a guy staring at the side of his then brand new Ford pickup which had been slit down the side of the bed a couple feet, right at Rambler fin height!  The only thing hurt on the Rambler was the fin was a few degrees off kilter, probably hurt the high speed aerodynamics.  He never did fix the fin, it was kind of a badge of pride for wounding a brand new Ford pickup!

Incidentally, the "R" fell off the grill, so he rearranged the remaining letters to "mable", my grandma's middle name.   Which she hated, so she hated the Rambler so much she wouldn't ride in it after that.

i was hoping to replicate it for my brother who learned to drive in mable, good thing I didn't tell him I'd hate to get his hopes up then have to tell him the bad news!

I have a couple of these (one black X-El promo, one kit) - If I decided to do a chassis and engine, what would be a better source for the old AMC V8 - the SC/Rambler, the Marlin, or something else? I'll probably do the Ambassador trim since the front end is the long style already.

I'm going to fix the bug-eyed headlights with a hooded set from a '59 Mercury blended into the fenders.

I've got one of the last reissues, and this kit is another one of those "dream builds" of mine. Got to ride in one of these quite frequently as a kid as the man my Mom started dating sometime after she and Dad broke up had one of these, but I think his was a '58. I'd want to turn mine into a four door hardtop as that looks better to me than the stodgy sedan. Although, by the looks of everything else that was being churned out for '59, the Rambler was quite stodgy anyway, save for Studebaker (Lark)! :D

Since the roof on the wagon seemed to always look like an afterthought to me (note the "dip-down" in the roof), whacking that off should leave the roofline pretty much intact. For a trunk, I've got  a '57 Chevy junker that could be put to good use for that.

Now what to do about that incorrect dash which is more for a '61??

Chris, I'd think any of those would do as Johan IIRC, never tooled up the correct AMC engine for those kits. It more represents the V8 that would be for the '59. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it's one of the reasons I've never built a proper AMX. A good engine's never been done for those either in 1/25, but I guess the motor out of the recent Gremlin kit would be about as good as it gets. :(

I had one of these a few years ago and the instructions had details and drawings on how to modify it into a sedan version.

FIat refusing to license Ramblers (if that is in fact the case,) is very unfortunate. I think it's a slap in the face to AMC fans and modelers.

I don't know what, if anything, could be done about it, but it's very unfortunate if that is in fact the case.
