Regular box kit is yellow, flat box kit is white.  Costs a couple bucks more, but has some other added features too.

Like the Pontiac Gran Prix, there will be two boxings. First will be the "Original Art" Flat Box with the White Plastic. Second will be the Regular Box with the Yellow plastic. Not sure what (if any) difference there will be in the contents of the boxings. In the Gran Prix kits, the flat box had an extra set of tinted glass, a pair of slicks, and an expanded decal sheet. However, I've not read of any content changes on the Mod Rod, so it may just be what colour plastic you prefer, and whether you want the Print that will be in the flat box.

We'll all know in about a week, I am guessing, as the kit is hitting store shelves as we speak, and there appears to be MASSIVE interest in seeing the contents. Somebody will post pics here.

Looking forward to the AMT kit more than the Revell kits. Though I've already have both. One each of Revell's '29 roadster and '30 coupe. But, I love the old AMT stuff. And can't wait to get my hands on their Model A kit.

I'm glad this is coming back, but I'm not understanding the excitement. It's been available pretty much forever in one version or another on Ebay. If it doesn't include ALL of the original AlaKart bits, it's nice, but not spectacularly nice.

I have multiples of most of them, from a couple virgin AlaKart double kits to several gluebomb '29s to use as hot-rod fodder. Paid about $75 for one of the AKs, but got one later on for about $25.

thanks; that's consoling. after the '34 Ford pickup i got (lindberg?) in yellow, i'm only interested in white (or the slightly grey) issues

The yellow version is molded in a pearlescent yellow plastic not just a plain yellow and is kinda aimed at the kid market who don't want to paint the body (that's their excuse anyway) and I think the white version will have extra parts or other goodies since its MSRP is two bucks higher than the yellow version.

It's the Mod Rod variation that excites me. I don't think this has really been available since the mid-1970's.

Our wholesaler just got these- not sure which, I suspect the small box; we should have them on the shelf end of this week or early next.

I saw this kit at my LHS too.

I bought the Revell, '57 Chevy Convertible  instead. I'm not quite ready to shell out $33.00 plus 7.85% sales tax on a kit that I have 8 copies of already.  From reading the parts map on the bottom of the box, it looks like that 33 dollars buys me two very small trees of retooled suspension parts, an "Improved" decal sheet and some newly tooled tires. Nice Stuff mebbe, but not that nice. I'll get one, bit the Revell Model A is my first Priority now.

I don't think I'll buy one for myself so I'm not going to open this one up, but here are some box pics.  Don't know why it correctly rotated one but not the others, still figuring out new phone...

I built the 80s reissue version a while back as a stock Model A. I'm looking forward to this reissue with all the parts added. I'm thinking that the combo of the AMT and Revell kits will make for some interesting builds.

Don't see the Ala-Kart nose in any of these shots.

Who said it would have it?  They've been clear with what this kit has and doesn't have.

edit: I linked this blog post in one of the other Mod Rod threads a few months ago - http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-models/2554-the-inside-scoop-on-amts-1929-ford-model-a-mod-rod-reissue/#sthash.2rxMLn8H.dpbs

Maybe they're thinking about a re-release of the "new-tool" Ala Kart (the one with the itty bitty little underscale engine)...which I'd happily buy if they retooled the engine...after actually MEASURING ONE AND DIVIDING BY 25.  ;)

Picked up one of the Original Art kits yesterday, and did a quick comparison with an original Mod Rod (red version on box side pictured above) I'm surprised at how much of the original Ala-Kart is actually in there!!! I only see that the grille shell, clear insert "bullits" for the grille, and bed cover missing!!! There might be more, but this was a quick look. So close AMT!!! Actually, the body, and fender unit were modified many years ago for the 25th Anniversary issue. Still a great kit to have back.

I got my Original Art Series '29 Model A Roadster kit today at a local hobby shop. I am very please with what found in the box. My plans are to build one car as the Mod Rod with fenders. The other the Vintage Racing version without fenders.

As excited as I am about Revell's '29 and '30 Model As, which I also purchased, I'm more excited by this AMT kit. The new stuff is great. But, in someways my heart is struck more by the old stuff.
