All of my sealed Bill Elliott kits. The box has all of my un-built kits, sealed and opened. The list is the sealed kits. They won't be built by me.

I have a limited space for my kits so there's no way I'd buy a kit if the plan was not to build it. I understand it though that some people like to do it that way. But personally, as a model car builder, I prefer seeing the finished product on my shelf and that rare box somewhere on display too. I have some old annuals and they all are going to be built someday.

One of my dreams would be to have that Aurora '34 Ford built box stock with some added detailing. Those kits are just so expensive....

I plan to build all mine someday but have some i have lost interest in so they might not make it to my bench..?  I have a Johan 60 Olds Senicoupe kit that is still un-touched that might be one of the rarest kits i have.

If i live long enough, EVERY kit i buy will get built, being in Australia, i never grew up seeing these cars for real, never seen one of these race/drag cars

go down or around a track, so to me, they are just models, and are there to be built. I also don't mind chopping and customizing them up for the same reason ,

they are Just Plastic...

No not really. I can understand collecting certain things, but collecting kits doesn't make sense to me. When I happen across a collectible kit it is traded away pretty quick for more kits I can build.

LOL, "a kit"????? How about hundreds! I won't live long enough! Probably the main one would be my big Renwal Visible Chassis kit though. Way too big! Nowhere to put it if I did build it but hey, I have that sucker though! :)

i also bought the big Testors Visible Hemi to go with it just for fun.

It would be very hard to crack open one of my mint, factory sealed, AMT Kenworth/Challenge mixer kits as well. Too rare and can't be reissued due to tooling modifications.

LOL! I've got both of those too!

The chassis had been started, but is in dire need of a resto, got the engine that belongs with it as well, but heaven only knows if I'll ever get the ambition to build either one of those you have pictured.

I get kits not so much because I think they'll have some collector value down the road, I get them simply because I just happen to like that particular car/truck. Down the road, something will "trigger" a response in wanting to build it-------it might be a TV show, online article, or I see one on the road or at a show somewhere.

As far as what I'll never build, more than likely some of the big scale stuff I just mentioned, as well as a Doyusha 1/12 scale Honda S800 convertible I've had for years. Once again, I'm not of the mind to sell it 'cuz I happen to like that car! ;)

i feel the exact same way Bill! On my chassis kit, I painstakingly inventoried each and every piece and any piece that was missing or the slightest bit damaged, I replaced with a new piece from a seller on Ebay that had parts kits for sale. I also bought his DVD that has hundreds of tips on building the Visible kits!

Hmmm.....I didn't know there was a DVD out with building tips for that! I'll have to be on the lookout for one, because that IS a very involved model! If/when I ever decide to build it, I'd like to replace the leaf springs with brass ones among other things.

After over 50 years, things get kind of brittle and fragile! :D

Yeah, it's a really informative DVD! It tells how to use brass bushings in certain areas of the engine kits, proper lubricants that won't attack the plastic over time, etc.

I have a few kits that I do want to build, but at the same time don't want to build due to them being rare/cost a lot of money etc. However, then I think if I don't build them then I'm only keeping them mint for the next guy. So what's the point in having them in the first place? Might as well sell the kit on ebay, make some money and just keep the box art. That way you'll feel you still have the kit. Doesn't matter the contents aren't there since you'll never build the thing anyway.

Like several folks have already stated, I only buy what I intend to build (plus some for parts to use in other builds).  But, my build rate has not kept up and I find when I periodically inventory the stash there are several that I have lost interest in.  Hence, every so often I do a purge (sell at swap meets or donate to club raffles).  I have considerably cut back my acquisition of new kits and focus on those of significant interest.  I still have about 700 unbuilts in the stash (and that doesn't include the HO kits or wheel/tire sets).

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about kits you won't build because you won't live long enough, or those you've lost interest in.

I am talking about rare kits that you enjoy having as intact, unbuilt kits, and intend to keep them that way.

I have two mint first issue (GC 300:149) Jo-Han Chrysler Turbine Car kits. One will stay that way. The other will receive the Bill Geary treatment. It's too nice of a kit not to build.

I have a few, I suppose,,,,but to fall into the discussion topic here, Richard, I would say my still factory sealed Johan 69 GTX annual cartoon box, with the 1.87 KMART sticker on the box end.........the Ace..........

For me, I don't see the point in buying kits not to build.

Now, there are some I have that I may never have enough confidence in my skills to build, but that is different.

Just my thoughts for myself. I have no problems if others want to collect kits. Just to me they are meant to be built.

Russ

I agree with Russ, I'm getting ready to build a Scrambler kit now...not quite box stock.....;)

I sold off one kit that I couldn't draw myself to cracking open, it was a sealed 70 Rebel Machine...

As for the rest I do plan on building them... I don't want to look at a box, would rather see it built and on a shelf.... Not saying it's a bad thing to keep it in the box for those that do!!! It's just not for me, and I know this would upset a lot of people, but if I have a itch to cut up vintage plastic no matter what it is, everything is fair game..... Juss' Sayin'

I hacked up a $100.00 Caddy kit years ago and had a few guys writhing on the inside!!!!!!

Like many others statements before me I have to many kits that I will never build or finish. Too many to list but the two I know that will stay unbuilt are my Aurora kits. The 22 Ford Double Deuce and the 34 ford. Both are mint  and the box art are a joy to look at.

This Monogram 1/20th '56 Cadillac molded in styrene (rather than warp-happy acetate like the '55s and early '56s) will probably never get built. Though I have since had the wheelcovers plated by Little Motor Kar Co. I love just having it like this, but you know what they say... "never say never!"

It's just that I don't want to build them, and I really won't be able to build that many! , but I do like opening a box of a vintage kit and just looking at the parts. There is something quite peaceful about an untouched kit that is still minty fresh. Especially and old one.

Off the top of my head, my MPC 67 Firebird, MPC 66 Monaco and Aurora Racing Scenes stuff will never get built.

Ok, maybe some of the Aurora stuff will :D

Yes, I bought this kit in memory of my very FIRST AMT kit that I got at a Boy Scout Christmas party back in '59, and it is in my display case in the box. I have plenty of other kits to build.
