cobraman Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Finished this one this morning. Body is a Kyosho 1/24 slot car body. I used parts from the Revell 1/24 Cobra kit. Model is a curbside so no engine or interior. After prep body was sprayed with Duplicolor Universal Chrome. Looks pretty good when first sprayed but is fragile when dry. Clear coating will just turn it a silver/gray. I know because I tried on another body. Added some numbers which may have been a mistake on my part. Anyway, it's done such as it is and looks pretty good in a display cabinet. All comments welcome.
Intmd8r Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Stunning! You sure know how to build a Shelby Cobra…
JTalmage Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 That turned out really well! Is that on the same Revell/Monogram chassis as you had in the workbench thread?
MrObsessive Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Ray, that's lookin' really good and it sits well! Just looking at the body shape, I'd have to say that look just a bit better than the Gunze one that sells for crazy money. Of course, the few that were done were all different so I'm not sure which chassis number Kyosho modeled when they did this one. Sure would be nice if we could ever get a nice detailed glue kit of this one!
wayne swayze Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Wow! That turned out super nice Ray! Glad you added the numbers. Did you clear coat it? Great shelf model for sure!
cobraman Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 Thanks so much everyone. Yes it is the same chassis as in mock up. No it has not been cleared. I did a test where I did clear a Cobra body that I painted with this paint and it just eliminated the chrome look. Made it a kind of silver/gray but shiny. This body does look pretty much spot on to my eye.
Crazy Ed Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Ray That Looks really Good! and the Daytona Body wears the Chrome Look Well.
crazyjim Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Very nice build, Ray. The Daytona body style is beautiful.
cobraman Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 Thanks guys. I think I may need to get another body and do it in the Gulf colors.
RestoModGuy Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 well done! nice jobyes, that "chrome" paint is sensitive. Wonder why, it's designed for real car painting of accessories and no way would it be durable in my opinion.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Wow. That really IS beautiful. Nice work, sir. She looks convincingly like bare, lightly polished alloy.
cobraman Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 Thanks Jim and Bill. I sure like the look of this paint but it sure is not durable. I wonder why when you clear it ( I did to a different body ) it looses all it's chrome luster.
bbowser Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Nice work. One in Gulf colors would be awesome as well!
