gtx6970 Posted November 3, 2016 Author Posted November 3, 2016 I'll admit. The front end is similar to a 55ish chevy,,,and I wish it replicated something closer to the stock Cadillac But then again, If someone wanted to give it to me, Id drive it exactly as is and grinning from ear to ear for a LOOOOOONG time.

StevenGuthmiller Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 I agree. Thought it didn't look too bad from the back, but the front totally kills it for me. But then again, If someone wanted to give it to me, Id drive it exactly as is and grinning from ear to ear for a LOOOOOONG time. I'd take it if someone gave it to me too Bill. But I'd sell it & buy something I really liked. I'm sure this thing wouldn't be cheap. I'm sure you could get a very nice classic.........& probably have a nice chunk of cash left over. Steve
espo Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" I don't know who first said it but that pretty much describes this car. I agree with Bill on the front end, should have staid closer to the original design. Wheels are a very personal thing, and I would have done something different. I truly do like the overall look and especially the interior. Since it is built by the Ring Brothers you just know this thing is made to be driven. One thing about Customizing a car is that you end up narrowing the number of people that share your vision.
Mark Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 That gutter-guard mesh in the grille isn't doing anything for me. I don't even care for that krap in my gutters; put it in for a while and wound up taking it all out. Should have left the full-width grille surround with the horizontal center bar, to make it look wider. The sharp corners of the new grille surround clash with the more rounded shape of the body. The rocker panels look too wide also, like they grafted the upper body onto the lower half of a newer car. Which is what they did, but it doesn't necessarily have to look like it. To each his own, though...
JTalmage Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Crazy. I'm in a facebook car group for Lincoln Mark VIII owners, and one of the guys in the group, his boss OWNS that white Cadillac. He just posted pics of it in the group.
PARTSMARTY Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 I like them both but in this case Steve is spot on -the original is totally cool !!!
stavanzer Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 I'll go with: "just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD" The front grille area is wildly out of tune with the rest of the car. These so called 'customs' are more like the much despised "Checkbook Modeling" fad of the late 1990's. Having a shop full of tools, and a rich (stupid) benefactor with no taste, does not ultimately result in great looking Hot Rods or Customs. Even Foose and Boyd only got it right about 50% of the time to my eyes. Too many of the cars I see written up in the Glossy "Me Too" magazines are just clones of one another. There is growing air of Over-the-Top Sillyness or at least Un-seriousness to so many of the builds seen these days. Not saying that they are built poorly or cheaply. Just saying that they are fundamentally lacking in the Grace and Intent that older Customs seem to have. Granted if you have looked at the old, old Custom Magazines from the 1950's and early 1960's you will see some definite clinkers there as well. But even then, there is a noticeable change in the attitude, and way they were built and conceived. Today's cars.... Not so much. Technical Skill is not a good substitute for a Visibly Inspired Design.
CometMan Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 I understand that giant wheels and rubber-band tires are the "in" style, but, to me, the "in" style just makes EVERYTHING look absolutely ridiculous! As far as the front end, why do so many people think that everything needs to end up looking like, being powered by, or handled like a Chevy?!
Craig Irwin Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 I understand that giant wheels and rubber-band tires are the "in" style, but, to me, the "in" style just makes EVERYTHING look absolutely ridiculous! As I call them, clown wheels.
CometMan Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 As I call them, clown wheels. What I really call them would get me kicked off the forum!

As far as the front end, why do so many people think that everything needs to end up looking like, being powered by, or handled like a Chevy?! I agree. There are so many ugly wheels on the market today, they greatly out number anything that looks good. Many older custom or racing wheels were much more utilitarian in design. The wheels today just look like they're trying too hard & ending up looking dopey. I honestly don't understand where the "bigger is better" mentality came from either. accentuating something ugly by making it bigger is not a good strategy in my opinion. Nobody will ever convince me that this looks good! Dumbest looking thing I've ever seen! Steve

In my day everyone put the fattest thing they could put on a set of Keystones or Cragars and shove under the wheel well! But, at least, they still handled decently, didn't ride like a tank, and we didn't need a Jacob's Ladder to get into the darn thing!
Chuck Most Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Well, he didn't succeed in making a late '40's Cadillac any uglier than it was when stock, but since that's probably impossible I'd call it a hollow victory on that front. There are exceptions to every rule, but big wheels on a big car look better than 14" steelies on a big car, but then again, there are people who honestly think that cars from the era of four-wheel drums and points ignition were the best cars ever built (even though they have one of those evil disc-brake/coil-on-plug modern cars as a daily... go figure).Yeah, he did kind of drop the ball with the grille design, but at least it doesn't look like the chrome-plated grimace of a constipated chipmunk , the way the stock grille did. But this was around the time Cadillac decided they wanted to be the Tammy Faye Baker of luxury makes and start slathering their cars in more and more garish tinsel. Again- really hard to "ugly up" a design like this, but even then the grille just doesn't seem to "work". All that being said, if I won the car in a raffle or something I'd drive it- but I don't think I'd buy it or build/have one built like it. Even if I did, a postwar Cadillac is the absolute last base I'd use anyway. If I wanted to dump money into an ugly-duckling luxury car I think I'd have to go with a '49-'51 Baby Lincoln, or pretty much anything that ever had "Imperial" somewhere in it's name.
Harry P. Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 You think this is a bad looking car? Seriously?
StevenGuthmiller Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 You think this is a bad looking car? Seriously? There's no accounting for tastes Harry. Obviously someone thought this looked good. Steve
blunc Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 There's no accounting for tastes Harry. Obviously someone thought this looked good. Steve Is the owner of this car Penelope Pitstop or Dick Dastardley?
om617 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I admire the Ringbrothers craftmanship and the Cadillac is amazing,as most of they`re projects. This said,if i was lucky enough to have the money for such a car i would not have wanted it messed to much about on the outside. Maby somthing like this.

The white car in the original post is alright, I guess, but this one is downright nice!!!!!
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I don't think anyone will ever top Cadzilla with that bodystyle, and this one's not that close IMHO. I agree entirely with Casey. So far, for this body style, nothing beats Billy Gibbons' Coddington-built Cadzilla .
Xingu Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I like mild customs, one's that can be put back to stock fairly easy. It is almost heartbreaking to see what is done to some of the original classics. I hurts to see original Lincoln Zephyrs torn to shreds.
Mike 1017 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I luv it!! The Ring Brothers build some amazing cars.
Harry P. Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 The white car in the original post is alright, I guess, but this one is downright nice!!!!!Aside from custom paint and a slight lowering, this one looks to be 100% stock.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I luv it!! The Ring Brothers build some amazing cars. I kinda like the job they did on the DeTomaso Pantera a while back, though there are some things I would have done differently. But I think somebody really dropped the ball on the front of the OP Caddy.
Mike 1017 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 IMO Their wide I kinda like the job they did on the DeTomaso Pantera a while back, though there are some things I would have done differently. But I think somebody really dropped the ball on the front of the OP Caddy. IMO. The wide body builds are the best
