restoman Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Finally finished! Lots of scratch building and little custom touches but pretty happy with how it turned out. 1
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Very cool project!! I like the matching cargo! Great work!!
kilrathy10 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Now, that's my kind of truck mod....Very nice work....Like the color and the execution.....Great job.....
1930fordpickup Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I like this. Reminds me of the home built haulers that you see in the old pictures.
towman1271 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Great use of the imagination..Great scratch building & details.. Just look great together
gatorincebu Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Now that looks really good ! You did a fine job on this one. Be Well Gator
Flynlo Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Great build Mike! Looks like the perfect set up for the Mopar fan to go racing?
restoman Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 Thanks for the comments. It was fun to do, though it took longer than I thought it would. I was aiming to have it look like a rig from the early to mid-seventies and I think I hit the mark for the most part. Pretty happy with it.
Mopar - D Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Mike you should be very happy with you build it turned out very nice. It is very much a 70's rig.
slusher Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Man,that is a great build. I love it. Only one thing wrong,it's not on my shelf
extmcdriver Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Great job, getting the cab to sit level is an accomplishment!
TarheelRick Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 That is a really beautiful rig. Everything about it looks so right, a well-backed dealership sponsored rig maybe or someone with a bit of extra cash laying around would own such a rig. Great work.
426-Hemi Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 -Yep thats straight from the late 60's early 70's. without a hitch too! GREAT job on the whole execution of the build! -Question tho, what ya use or get the race bed from? (Its not a modified racers wedge, but, its not something I have recall seeing or even hearing about Scratchbuilt maybe?NICE job tho!

All scratch-built, including the taillight panel, taillights, the headache rack, winch and cabinet handles. I initially was going to open up the cabinet doors - there are full boxes behind them - but couldn't come up with small enough working hinges that looked like they belonged there. I built a hitch for the thing too, but haven't put it in the receiver yet...

Did you make yours that the cab tilts to show the engine, or is this "Curbside" as I know a lot of guys do that with the L-700's because of the way they go together and the fitment of the p[arts.... I have to ask as this is very well done and looks GREAT so....
JerseyRed Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Very nice carrier and cargo! What type and color paint did you use?
restoman Posted November 15, 2016 Author Posted November 15, 2016 Yes, the cab tilts to show the Hemi Orange engine, with HP exhaust manifolds... I'll get a pick or two tomorrow and post them up. The paint is Duplicolor Perfect Match... a GM colour if I recall. Cleared both car and hauler with automotive clear, thinned out quite a bit.
Tesla Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 What a nice looking build! I congratulate you for getting the cab to sit level. Most of the L700 builds I've seen, the cab tilts forward.
bbowser Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I love this truck and what you've done with it! Matching cargo, scratchbuilt bed, great color, outstanding.
