FrozenPlastik49 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 I love all things Porsche. I used to own a 1:1 914 and had grand plans to install a small block Chevy in place of the 4 banger. As with most of my projects, it never came to fruition. I purchased the Revell kit with the intention of replicating what I could never get off the ground 1:1. Then Revell releases the 918 Spyder kit and what you see in progress below was born. The undercarriage is from the 918, quartered and reshaped to match the 914 body. The interior and motor are from the 918. This mock up is sitting on EightyOne's iForged Equip V3s, but I plan to use the 918 kit rims. Finished body color will be Tamiya's Light Green X-15, similar to Porsche's Acid Green. I'd use Gravity Colors' Acid Green, but am currently sans airbrush. I've already purchased Scale Motorsport's clear carbon fiber decals and will make the most of the bright green. The 918 rims will be black. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics from a dimly lit workbench. So much work left to be done! This shot shows the incorporation of the 918 fuel filler cap on the targa structure. 918 front bumper narrowed to fit the 914 body. Still have some fit issues with the 918 dashboard. Mock up of the engine bay. Parts box provided the rear cowling and torsion bar.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Interesting concept, looking forward to more.
BIGTRUCK Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Looks great, how wide are those rear wheels? They look pretty nice on your build.
bobthehobbyguy Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Very cool project. Definitely will be watching.
FrozenPlastik49 Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 Thanks Modelbuilder Mark, Cobraman, Ace-Garageguy, lghtngyello03, DrKerry, bobthehobbyguy, om617, and crazyrichard! Much appreciated!Foxer, I agree 100%! The 914 was always woefully underpowered.BIGTRUCK, I'm not sure the scale width, but they do measure about 1/2" in width actual.
FrozenPlastik49 Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 (edited) Quick update...I decided to use the EightyOne rims instead of the 918 rims. Got them painted the eventual body color and then accented them in black. Here's a mock up with the first one. Body is in white primer. Edited December 8, 2016 by FrozenPlastik49
FrozenPlastik49 Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 Thanks JerseyRed!Whereabouts in NJ? I was born in Denville and grew up in Sparta and Phillipsburg.
JerseyRed Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 You were north of me, I'm in Spotswood right next to East Brunswick in central NJ. How did you end up in Alaska?
FrozenPlastik49 Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 JerseyRed:Ok, got it.Wound up in Alaska (via Florida no less!) as a result of a career move and a strong desire to get out of Florida and the east coast in general. Wife and I were hoping for Colorado or Washington or Nevada originally, but Alaska called and we answered! No regrets whatsoever!
afx Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Tricky kit - I have built a few. Interested to see how your's turns out.
FrozenPlastik49 Posted December 9, 2016 Author Posted December 9, 2016 afx - Lucky for me, I'm only using the 914 body. Windshield and frame will be fun to work with, though.geetee66 - Absolutely! Thanks!
FrozenPlastik49 Posted December 9, 2016 Author Posted December 9, 2016 Got all four rims painted, minus some touch-up work to be done.
Cpt Tuttle Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Making a real sportscar out of the hairdressers Porsche, absolutely the right way to go!
afx Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 The 914 has always been under appreciated IMHO.
