...how would you pay the writers you hire? ...

Good question.

I've provided literally thousands of pages of quality copy, how-to info, and photographs for THIS site, as well as others, and never made a dime for it.

I'd certainly be interested in writing about models for money (I have rather a lot of technical real-world material already published), but I have ZERO interest in writing about something I love while somebody who doesn't give a rat's rear about the subject rides on my back raking off all the cream.

Been there, done that. Nope.

How and how much do you propose to pay?

LOL wow you guys are way overthinking this. I'm simply making a niche website (blog). There will be valuable information and content, but obviously my main goal is to put ads there. It will not be click bait or a scam or anything. I don't even know what you mean by saying it's fake?!?! And i want to make the website for the long run since i will be putting a decent amount of money into it, which means the content has to be good. The way SEO and google works now is not just spamming the keywords. All i came here to do was see if you guys had any input. If you don't want to help me that is fine, i don't really care. So if you want to try and insult me or if your pissed that a high school kid who doesn't build models is making a website about models, please leave. All helpful replies are appreciated.

YOU can always leave too.

Actually, you are the one that should leave..this is an established model builder forum, what are you bringing to the table?  Nothing...we have no proof you are anything you claim to be...go back to playing Nintendo or other things that teenagers do, if you really are one.   You have the gall to use 'ModelKitBuilder' as your username and yet you don't build?  Fake, fake, fake...

Well, if you ever published, I'd certainly buy a copy.

Harry has a book or two I plan to buy

Another thing I would not mind seeing is a For Sale section.  Perhaps a small fee for a listing would generate some revenue.  Some people do not want to trade and just want a complete model or parts and not deal with the hassle of Ebay.  If you plan on a online version of a traditional magazine I suppose that is feasible but as others have said it would be vey helpful to be pretty familiar with the subject matter.  There may be a limit to how many people want to provide content on a regular basis.  To make this work I would think you would have to have a lot of traffic or subscribers to make it economically worthwhile.

For a example of combining an genuine interest in cars and social media marketing, check out JR Garage on Youtube.   I have meet this 17 year old young man and he is off to a pretty good start on his dream.

That's interesting as under the trade section there is mention of visiting www.eModelCars.com for this purpose.

Alas, its now defunct and never really had anything good on it.

Just a reminder, please watch the language. The site has a filter for a reason. Please do not try to get around the filter.

A large part of your problem here is thinking that model building is just some frivolous, simple operation that can be handled in an afternoon.

Most of the guys here have built for anywhere from a decade to a half of a century & have slowly honed their skills over a very long period of time.

How does someone answer the questions you've asked with as many different ways of doing things as there are people doing them?

There is a lot more complexity to this hobby than you will probably ever know.

It's a little like asking a thousand different brain surgeons to give you a quick overview on how to remove a tumor.

We get these "new guy, tell me how to build a model" people on the forums all of the time.

Without asking very specific questions, you'll get nothing of any value, guaranteed.

Some others see model building as "playing with toys", accept glaring scaling and proportion mistakes from the model-manufacturing companies with no question, build things that couldn't possibly function in reality, see investing in tools and materials as a waste of money, learning proper techniques as a waste of time and not "fun", and seem to expect overflowing praise for mediocre results.

Bill,

As I feel like I fall into this category more than someone who builds for accuracy, I find this a bit insulting. I have very little invested in tools, and rarely build things that would work in the real world. I find my builds are more art than function.

I have as much fun building what I do, as anyone else, although I do get aggravated with my builds quite often, but that's probably just my nature. I don't understand the constant negativity to people who just want to build what pleases them because their model would never work as a 1:1.

So basically you want to make money using us for your knowledge. To me that means we are doing your work for free so you can profit from it.

We've put the work into learning how to build decent looking models and you have not done one thing other than trying to suck on our teats. How about YOU LEAVE!

I was mildly offended as well Bill.

This is a big hobby.

Everybody has there own thing & there's room for everyone.

We're not curing diseases here, just building models.

I never wanted you guys to create content for me, so i can make profit off your work. I simply wanted ideas. Like if someone said "make an article teaching people how to paint racing stripes on a model car". Now i don't think anyone would pay you for something like that, but i would pay you if you gave a content idea and then created the content.

Also, i will be paying through paypal, and pay depends on quality, value, and length of the article. Info graphics, videos, pictures would all call for higher payment. I'm not here to rip anyone off and when i said leave, i meant leave this thread and leave me alone. If you are interested in writing, please get in contact with me.

And i already learned something from you guys:

I can make content tailored to people who want perfection in their models, and i can make content tailored to those who are less serious and want to have fun.

See simple things like that means a lot to me. I'm sorry that people are so offended, just please stop with the hating. If you think i'm a rip off or a fake just move on.

Again, how about you move on. It's quite apparent you've pissed people off with your crappy attitude. There are plenty of other model forums you can go to.

What have i even done??? I asked a simple question and it was misinterpreted like crazy.

I checked the name and city/state 'ModelKitBuilder' is using, and on Facebook they are a middle aged guy, so I'm suspicious of the claim of being 17...

OK, not to throw anymore gasoline on this fire-------seems to me that the best way to go about this blog you're trying to create is to go about building a model on that blog, and then passing on any tips and such you're learning along the way. At least then you'll have an audience that sees you're into what you're peddling, and perhaps making money along the way with ads and whatnot.

You're young so you've certainly got time on your side. If you hit a stumbling block with a particular technique, you can always ask questions here. I don't mind passing along tips-------of course the way I do things is not to everyone's liking, but that's what makes this hobby unique.

Just my dos centavos worth. ;)
