JollySipper Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Do you guys think that, in the 1:1 and model world, that every genre has been touched on? that every style has been explored? What trend would you like to see that we haven't seen?I think we are just borrowing ideas at this point, but maybe blending styles to add our own personal touch........
STYRENE-SURFER Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (Bosozoku cars) , haven't seen this exploited in styrene yet. google it.
JollySipper Posted February 3, 2017 Author Posted February 3, 2017 Yea, those cars are Wild! It would take a fair amount of sheet stock to build one......... I believe there is a kit of a van done Bosozoku style, not certain tho.........

I have a few original designs that don't really fit into any easily pigeonholed genre...like this, for instance...
Snake45 Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 One "genre" I can think of that hasn't been done to death, either in real life or model form, would be Can-Am/road racing/GT prototype cars turned into street cruisers. Ford did a few GT40s for the street, called MKIIIs, but I haven't seen many if other things of this type. Would be fun to see something like a Lola T70 or a Chaparral 2D tamed into a street-legal highway cruiser.

disabled modeler Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Some of these have been explored but not enough for me yet...camping trailer kitsInternational pickups and Travelall kitslate 60s to mid 70s station wagon kitsmaybe other diorama building kits....the MRC gas station kits sold well.Maybe kits of 1/25th scale shop equipment,etc...?
Scott Colmer Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 (edited) I like this thread. I am always looking for something different in both model cars and 1:1 cars. Rat Rods had their run, but that look quickly got old for me. Every once in a while I see some cool ideas like Bill's car above. One of my favorite tends - along the lines of road cars turned street cars - are old rods and muscle cars turned road racers like the Jet Hot duce and the Rear engine 37 Ford. For Mr. Snake, Hosted on Fotki "Can-Am/road racing/GT prototype cars turned into street cruisers." Edited February 4, 2017 by Scott Colmer

Scott Colmer Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Its a 51 chevy fastback crossed with a 956 Porsche... And in need of a refresh.
Pete J. Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 (edited) There is nothing that is truly new. All is built on what when before it. Combination may be unique but it all goes back to something else. We still share the layout of our transportation on thousand year old 4 wheel carts. Every once in a while someone has a different eye and puts them together in a different fashion and we get a new trend. This is my contribution. Styling cues from a Dodge Ram, Ferrari and Mercedes with a little hotrod thrown in for good measure. Edited February 4, 2017 by Pete J.
Scott Colmer Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 (edited) I remember that one, Pete. I saw it at a model show and asked you about it. If I remember right , you did it once then redid it. Excellent styling and super clean execution. That one will always be a classic. If you want to change platforms, try some of Ira Dunham's space hot rods. You would have to find the thread. Snake45 Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I had another idea: How about re-customizing well-known customs? The idea is to take something like the original Batmobile, Munster Koach, Monkeemobile, etc., and make something completely your own from it, but whose origins are still unmistakable. The idea is harder and more subtle than it sounds.

Snake45 Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 (edited) Like this T'Rantula update? Hosted on Fotki That's a pretty good example of what I mean. You look at it and it's obviously a TRantula, but it's also obviously NOT a TRantula anymore. Just out of curiosity, have you decided on a color for that yet? I mean, will you be staying with TRantula Puke Green to maintain its "heritage," or will you be going in some completely different direction like red or black to make a bold "departure" statement? I've seen a few interesting things done with Silhouette that would fall into this category. I've got an idea for the AMT Surf Woody that might qualify as well. Other good candidates for this kind of thing would be Lil Coffin, Predicta, Orange Hauler, and some of the Roth stuff. Edited February 5, 2017 by Snake45

Ace-Garageguy Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Steampunk and Dieselpunk haven't been fully explored...
Snake45 Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Predicta II... Mustang Mach III showcar hack... Orange Hauler II... Ala Kart II... I like these!
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Then there's some really bizarro-world stuff that could inspire all kinds of misbegotten monstrosities...
JollySipper Posted February 5, 2017 Author Posted February 5, 2017 Bill, are you putting a Viper nose on the Predicta II? The profile shot looks awesome!
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Bill, are you putting a Viper nose on the Predicta II? Yes sir, but different...
Scott Colmer Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 That screw drive vehicle needs some custom exploration. Way Cool! Mr. Snake, The Tarantula would be called Reentry and it would have either an Orange or While paint with a entering the atmosphere flame job. Here is a Lil' Coffin truck. Brad Leisure also had the same idea, but he went with a fleetside. Sorry, I don't have a pic of his art. Hosted on Fotki

Ace-Garageguy Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 (edited) Brad Leisure is a prolific and gifted illustrator and designer who's done a lot of takeoffs on existing customs. Here's a link. http://www.horse-powergraphics.com/brad-leisure-s/1820.htm Edited February 5, 2017 by Ace-Garageguy
stitchdup Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I like that phaeton, will have to file it for the future build ideas. Thanks for that
