Superpeterbilt Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Here is a hood conversion that I am in talks to have cast. I started on the chassis just to lay it all out to see what will have to be moved around for the hood. Im using an AMT WWS kit. I cut off the front of the spring mounts that contain the hood hinges, and grafted in some Pete 377 springs to move the axle back to the correct spot, and still hinge the hood. Im using Autocar front tires and rims for the time being. I cut apart the Hendo walking beams to make them functional. As of tonight, this is the progress. The cab, hood, tanks, and batt box are all just loose mounted for the time being. I swapped around the batt box and small tank because it looks better to me that way. I still have more work to do to get the front springs just right, and need to fab the bumper. Then hopefully this will be a new conversion kit. Showing beam travel
signguy2108 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 tough looking truck! excellent work, as usual.
drinkone2 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Nice work! I'd be interested in one of those if they are cast.
k100 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I like it , count me in on one if you get them cast.
Tesla Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Nice work Terry! The set back front axle gives it a real tough look. I certainly hope this conversion kit is casted.
Superpeterbilt Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 Thanks a lot guys. What Im planning is for the leaf springs to be cast with the hood. The front cab mount is built onto the rear front spring hanger, so that takes care of axle location, and cab location. Only the rear cab mount will have to be moved forward. I want it to be as easy a conversion as possible. The only work will be filling in the swiss cheese frame rails that come in this kit. So many holes!
bigred63 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Terry, this is great, I like how you made the suspension, walkable. I have to try this on a model soon. Thanks for the pictures.Ronnie
gotnitro? Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Looks great, especially the movable walking beam
extmcdriver Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I love the attention to detail, great job!!!
Jim B Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Nice job on the suspension & hood. Looks like a parking lot in the background.
Superpeterbilt Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 Thanks for all the kind words guys. I got the bumper made, and just have a few more pieces to make before sending this to be cast. Its getting close! Thanks to Dennis(Tesla) for the rear fenders.
Tesla Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 This has a very aggressive look...excellent work!
signguy2108 Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Terry, looking in the back of these pics, how do u find time to finish anything! lol Great looking bunch of projects
bigred63 Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Terry, I like what you have done so far. It just looks Great, can't wait to see the finale build.Ronnie
gatorincebu Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Now that is just too cool. That hood and set back axle. Opens that truck up for a mixer heavy duty dump or Tractor. I hope you do a conversion kit including the front suspension ( springs and hood hinge point and possibly a bumper. I would be down for a couple. Be Well Gator

Be Well GatorThats the plan Gator, Hood, bumper, front springs, and probably some steering parts. The front cab mounts will be attatched to the rear spring hanger also. This takes care of moving the cab forward due to the hood being slightly shorter. This will be an easy conversion.
Chuck Most Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Looks great! I'd definitely be interested in the set once it's ready.
