signguy2108 Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Man, the engine looks good! Wish i still had that kind of patience and eyesight.
truckabilly Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Fantastic engine! What a wonderful job! Do I like it? You bet!

landman Posted July 5, 2017 Author Posted July 5, 2017 Thanks muchly guys. Now if I could make the truck only one quarter as good looking as Anthony's gravel trailer, I'd be in business.
landman Posted July 5, 2017 Author Posted July 5, 2017 (edited) And this is how it'll look in the frame. I know, I know, I have to redo the decal, this one is about 3mm too long. Edited December 9, 2020 by landman
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 WOW!!! The decal is really going to finish this one!! Looks great!! It makes me want to build one!
SpreadAxle Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 You did a fantastic job on that engine. I only ever saw one other modeler build one and he did it with an amt Cummins engine.

landman Posted July 7, 2017 Author Posted July 7, 2017 (edited) The firewall and cab floor need extensive reworking to fit around the rear of the engine. But we're getting there. Edited December 9, 2020 by landman

SpreadAxle Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Is it the one near the bottom of the first page of this thread? No. That builder isn't a member here. I guess yours makes only the third I've ever seen in scale.
landman Posted July 9, 2017 Author Posted July 9, 2017 (edited) No. That builder isn't a member here. I guess yours makes only the third I've ever seen in scale. The one I have above was taken off the internet, not here. It had come up with the rest of the photos of the Big Al.I looked it up and it was in a forum called Model Truck Builder. landman Posted July 9, 2017 Author Posted July 9, 2017 (edited) Turned the firewall around and cut a notch across the top to clear the lip of the dash pad. I have to recess the firewall so it "straddles" the hood shut line io order for the hood to have something to rest on when shut. That required cutting the front sides of the interior tub vertically as well. Then I'll have to deal with the "warp". Squeezing from corner to corner will cure it but how to prevent it from springing back? Hot water bath then cool in the clamp? Edited December 9, 2020 by landman
Chuck Most Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Very cool! I have a Big Al about half finished around here somewhere. I think that'll be what, the third one ever done in scale? I was thinking of putting it in a Bighorn but now I might need to formulate a Plan B.
landman Posted July 11, 2017 Author Posted July 11, 2017 (edited) Working at closing up the tub floor. The cab support which was removed from the frame had the right spacing between its runners to cover the hole. What looks like a heater box with Revell script on it would hide the upper hole. However, this arrangement encroaches in the footwells quite a bit. Edited December 10, 2020 by landman
landman Posted July 13, 2017 Author Posted July 13, 2017 (edited) I found the original doghouse that I had cut off.so I adapted it to the new opening. Footroom has improved considerably. Edited December 10, 2020 by landman
Chariots of Fire Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Looking at the photo of the cab that is upside down it looks like one fender is not aligned with the other and that warps the grill. Can one fender be moved either forward or back to square it up? Major adjustment for sure but it would take the warp out of it. It would take a razor saw to remove one fender and then re-position it.

I'll soak it in hot water then clamp it and let it cool.
landman Posted July 15, 2017 Author Posted July 15, 2017 (edited) Looking back at the reference photos I noticed the headlights are mounted in what appears to be stainless steel plates. I made some, they will be Alcladed and applied over the square inserts I had made before. Edited December 10, 2020 by landman
