Did they really deliver it in a rocket carryin' Super Guppy? What happened to it? 29 second prizes, 600 third prizes of a 6-pack of models. Life was good.
SfanGoch Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 No, it was NASA surplus. In other words, the real deal. Read the article in the link Daddy fink provided in his post.

I saw that story on the Animal Planet show "Fatal Attractions." An old series about people who kept dangerous pets, usually with serious consequences. The show also covered a woman who lived in a trailer park, not too far from me in Los Angeles. Her trailer was stuffed with all kinds of poisonous snakes and lizards. Including a Gaboon Viper, which killed her.
ChrisBcritter Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Revell had another contest like this in Boy's Life magazine in 1964; first prize was a retired F-86F Sabre jet fighter. A Cub Scout in North Highlands, CA won it and had the plane displayed at his school; it later was moved to Gaviota, CA and finally ended up at McClellan AFB where it's still on display: http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=58069&p=572914#p572914 (scroll down to my first post)
unclescott58 Posted December 9, 2017 Author Posted December 9, 2017 I'm a bit of a sci-fi buff, so need to include this one.
DanR Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 These are awesome! I also love seeing the old G.I. Joe ads and commercials (on YouTube).
iamsuperdan Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Was going through and sorting/catalogingmy late father-in-law's old comic collection over the weekend. Happened to find this. And in closer detail...

ChrisBcritter Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Note the artist depicted Quicksilver with a stock '60 Chevy quad-headlight grille; something it's never had.
unclescott58 Posted April 7, 2018 Author Posted April 7, 2018 Two that are not cars, but models I've always wanted. I finally got a chance to build both last year.
unclescott58 Posted August 15, 2018 Author Posted August 15, 2018 Had to pull these up, and look at them again. Anybody know of any we've missed? I'd like to see more.

Spex84 Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 These are great Gotta love the quote marks around random words: "chrome" (because it's actually electroplated plastic?) and "flames" (because they're actually scallops??) Also, I get a kick out of how on-the-nose old ads can sometimes be. Like that Monogram ad: "Because it's nice to have 'in' things". Lol. Imagine if ads were like that today: "A Very Expensive Sports Car, because women are no longer attracted to you but maybe you can trick 'em....with this!" Dig it, man!
ChrisBcritter Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 (edited) Better get Chauncey some NoTox glue... ...and it looks like the AMT Kat had kittens! Edited August 16, 2018 by ChrisBcritter

Just pouring it in, and hoping something sticks? I also see he forgot to put the glass in. And last. Another kid with perfect hair! Did we all have perfect hair as teens back in the early 70's? I don't remember. (Maybe if I used more MPC Notox, I could remember?)

As for the hair, I wore a baseball cap most of the time

As to what he's doing with the glue, only thing I can figure is he's about to install the upper radiator hose. (He's looking at it from a pretty weird angle to see what he's doing, though.)

I believe both those kids were victims of stylists wielding cans of Gillette's The Dry Look men's hairspray (remember that slogan "The wet head is dead"?).
