absmiami Posted March 24, 2022 Author Posted March 24, 2022 Regarding the color of the magneto - buried back on page 5 - pre-pandemic - is an exchange between Pico (the “kit’s” creator and me on the topic …. He ponts out that the material is bakelite - which was an early plastic-like material w a red/brown hew - i failed to document how i came up with the color - i mixed something and something - can’t remember just what I ended up using - oops …
absmiami Posted March 28, 2022 Author Posted March 28, 2022 Slow going - but done - now to the intake manifolds and carbureters - per the photos all the back on pg 1 …. And the radiator core … 1

absmiami Posted March 30, 2022 Author Posted March 30, 2022 Time for some safety wires. The Delage has these wires running along the pan sections - they secure the bolts that attach the pan sections to the chassis. Chose some bolts that included a cast washer - but the wire - .005 - has to be wound and twisted - first around some .015 rod - these are then replaced by the bolts when the wire is installed - its a little over scale- but not much … 1
absmiami Posted March 30, 2022 Author Posted March 30, 2022 Don’t try this at home kids .. no, actually do try this at home - but only a section at a time - it will drive you batty - but it looks cool … takes some practice - and an optivisor - the parts grabber tool in the previous photo is used to grab and hold the ends of the wire to twist them from bolt to bolt … 1
Straightliner59 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Very cool! Those wires have me reluctant to build my Monogram Bugatti.
absmiami Posted March 30, 2022 Author Posted March 30, 2022 oh no wont let you build your Bugatti w/out these lovely safety wires ... must share the pain 1

landman Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Wow. Absolute crsftsmanship. I am seriouly considering selling all my stuff.
absmiami Posted April 2, 2022 Author Posted April 2, 2022 Turning my attention back to the trans case - which was made from Evergreen stock pre-pandemic - the black undercoat is Alclad - the bolts are from RB MOTION - Ohio - and Master Club - Er - Russia - they produced some really neat castle nuts just a few years ago - but i don’t expect re-stocks any time soon …. … 1
absmiami Posted April 2, 2022 Author Posted April 2, 2022 The right side mid- frame safety wires are not as precise as the first set - i think I know why - i’m about to reach page 13 - and we all know that the project goes to hell on page 13 - right? He was one of the early-adopters of 3D printing tech for model cars, built a couple of his own printers years ago, and does outstanding work. I'll be following your work here with much interest. absmiami Posted April 4, 2022 Author Posted April 4, 2022 Did Pico show you his Duesenberg ? the kick-plate for the transmission case was made from renshape and “stained” w a sharpie …
absmiami Posted April 4, 2022 Author Posted April 4, 2022 The housing for the shifter and the vent on top of the trans case were both turned from nickel bar - before the pandemic - and were waiting patiently for the trans case to be painted … some more work on the safety wiring segments
Bugatti Fan Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 This is a really fascinating build. Nice to see very old classic racing cars being modelled to this sort of standard. Incidentally, who is Peco Elgin who I see is mentioned. Does he produce kits in resin / white metal? How does one get in touch with him? A mention was made about a Duesenberg model he has made. Any pics on this forum?

absmiami Posted April 4, 2022 Author Posted April 4, 2022 One of my many side jobs - i’m a medium - so you can reach the mysterious Pico Elgin by dropping your message right here in this thread - and he appears - or drive to Atlanta and stop people randomly for directions - well maybe just email him …
Straightliner59 Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 Very nice radiator! That black looks just right.
absmiami Posted April 4, 2022 Author Posted April 4, 2022 Ive been pondering the finish of the radiator - ive decided to add a coat of Alclad Bl and shine it up - the restored car that I’m referencing is a trailer queen - Jay Leno learing at it at Pebble Beach is about the roughest handling that this car will get : much tOo valuable to compete - and many parts - including the radiator - are recreations - so I’m going to spiff up the radiator …

Bugatti Fan Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Thanks for your reply Pico. I came across your T41 Bugatti thread yesterday. Andrew, I liked your tongue in cheek humorous reply about you being a medium or Ime stopping random folks in Atlanta! Incidentally, is your Delage in 1/24th scale? I was contemplating my next scratch build and was looking on the web for ERA racing cars to look out the famous car 'Romulus'. Came across a Delage ERA that has beautiful lines. It is in the Mullin Auto Museum on your side of the pond. Might go for that one instead to model. Let's see! Thought you might be interested at taking a peek at it.
