Casey Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 (edited) I didn't see much different between the forthcoming Revell Baja Bronco and the existing Revell Ford Bronco kit, but after looking at enlarged images, there are a few noteworthy changes: Hexagonal wheel arches with integral fender flares New tires (anyone recognize them to be a replica of a real tire?) Newly engraved nameplate above the front side marker lights(?) Instruction sheet is up and downloadable: http://manuals.hobbico.com/rmx/85-4436.pdf Pics of the new Baja Bronco and the existing Ford Bronco, for comparison: Edited January 20, 2018 by Casey
stavanzer Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 It looks like they may have gotten the tire sidewall to rim ratio correct this time. Tires look vaguely like Gates Commandos. I know which Bronco kit I'm getting.
Erik Smith Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Yeah, I think they’re supposed to be XT Commandos? Also interesting on the front flares - the “Stroppe” Baja I believe only had rear flares. I like the new wheels - maybe - if they are correct size. They look deeper than the first set. Cool model though.

The wheels are definitely larger in diameter than those in the first kit, but the tires look kind of funky to me, especially the heavy sidewall ribs. Maybe there's something else coming which will also use these tires?
Jonathan Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Check out Fireball Modelworks - Joseph has some really great stuff for the Bronco kits, including parts (and package) for the Baja Bronco. http://fireballmodels.info/ The stuff I've purchased from him has been beautifully cast, and the customer service is top-of-the-line!
Crankenstien Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 may push other companies into reissues so cant be a bad thing with both those out
Fat Brian Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 I love this kit but that flat grille bothers me so bad. I know it's a small thing but it irks me.

stavanzer Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Fireball Models is doing some replacement grilles.

Great, thank you. I knew I couldn't be the only one irritated by that part.
Casey Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) Looks like it's available now. Edited January 25, 2018 by Casey

stavanzer Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Now, Revell, the Olsen Bros and Fireball Models get some of my money. After reading the initial reviews of the stock Bronco, I held off getting one. With this kit though, I'll be pulling the trigger. I can't wait to start on it.
Chief Joseph Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Oh the irony, Revell! You made a new body tool for the Baja Bronco release but it's literally useless if somebody wants to make an accurate Baja Bronco! The most accurate Stroppe Baja body is still made with the original release's stock body and rear fender flares. On the front, you can sand off a little of the lower front openings to replicate the rolling that Stroppe's shop did. But at least the new body is a great starting point for making a Bronco with larger tires that wouldn't fit under the stock openings.

The box art Bronco does NOT have front flares, but the photo of the model above shows front flares. Mine is sitting at home unopened, so I will take a look and post some photos this evening. Erik Smith Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 So, front fender flares: yes Wheels are (besides the fact I hate the new die cast style mounting flange) nice - deep steelies with good lug detail. They will probably look a lot better stripped and repainted. Chrome sprue still includes the “baby” hubcaps... The new tires are pretty cool. Definitely better than the first go. I don’t know if anything else is different
Erik Smith Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Also new air cleaner cover, carb, and intake manifold
1972coronet Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I like the vintage-1970 California licence plates ( the blue / gold plates ) . Why 1970 ? The "A" translates to 1970-issue .
Daddyfink Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Even the Stroppe Race versions didn't have the front flares

The sidewall ribs look a bit too heavy/thick to me, but maybe that can be toned down a bit via some sanding. I'm perfectly at ease with fender flares at both ends, as having them at one end only looks imbalanced. While that may not be correct for a factory Stroppe Bronco, I doubt the handful of people who bought the kit intending to build it exactly that way will be too turned off. Erik, could we get an O.D. measurement of the wheels at the lip, where they poke through the tires, please?
stavanzer Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Note too, the the '71 Bronco in the photo, has the stock air cleaner, not the chromed pie pan that is in the Baja Bronco kit. Going to be some very interesting kit bashes in the next few months. Too bad the Bronco in "Romancing the Stone" is an '84. Be neat to build a replica of the "Little Mule".

With some creative interpretation, this should work. But who makes the decals?
Daddyfink Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Accidentally found these images of a Bronco on Green Acres. Note the non flare and flare versions.
