Back in 1968 there were four of us living together in an apartment at University. Two of us had pulled out about halfway through the first semester after discovering we were in the wrong programs. So we decided to go on a trip around the US and Canada. We began looking for a cheap car and found a used 2CV. One evening, reinforced by a few beers , we figured we had enough left in our student loans to pay for our trip but not enough to buy the car. So we hit our respective parents for a temporary loan which we would repay upon selling the car at our return. It turns out the answer was pretty well the same  from both parents :" Never mind a loan. You are going to take a job and earn your next semester". So that is as close as we got to owning a 2CV. Fast forward 40+ years I saw the Airfix model and had to buy it. So here we go. There was a broken part in what appears to be some linkage. It wasn't in the bag so it may be on the factory floor. I made one. This looks like it'll be a fun build.

Huh, now I know why I never got that Lamborghini.

This should be a fun project.  Are you going to pose it like it's making a turn really fast?

This should be fun. These are very unique cars, I was on vacation a couple of years ago in Northern Michigan and there was a convention and show in town for the 2CV owners. There had to be close to 100 of them running around town.

Painting small parts.

Was coming along nicely with the body. There was an area where the fenders meet the cowl that was thin so I gave it a little extra. It spat out some gritty stuff. Have I ever told anyone I hate this part?

Chassis/floorpan coming along. Just when you thought you painted all the surfaces that will show, you discover you didn't. Anyway, touchups are a gig part of this modeler's life.

Better results the second time around.

Amazing how a full masking will let stuff through.

Behold the sleek and mighty 2CV engine.

I hate painting modes white.

Everything shows trough. If you have some louvers, it's a safe bet they will show the primer at the first rub down.

I think I just have two white cars among all mine built kits.

By the way, I had a fun couple of days about 20 years ago with a 2cv.

Was hanging out with a friend who had (still has) a garage, and a tourist from Argentina arrived in one, that was making all sorts of odd noises. It sounded like the engine was about to fall of the car.

After looking and looking, we finally found out it was the clutch that had a broken spring in the pressure plate.

The owner was happy the engine was ok, but he had to order a new clutch from Argentina.

The 2cv is not a rocket, imagine driving a car with a half a VW bug engine in the front. I can only imagine the trip from Argentina. More or less like doing it in a Model A Ford. Doable, but not if you are in a hurry. It's a cool car never the less.

I am flattered that you would even look at my stuff.^_^

Added the interior bits. Managed to drop one of the sunvisors with its tiny drop of glue on the windshield.

Added the exterior bling (not much on a 2CV and we are done.

Great build, well done. We have a lot of those here in the UK, super, economical car, specially when our fuel is around £5.60 per gallon ($7.70)!
