Here's the info on Round 2 website for '66 Ford Galaxie.

I think it would help them to look at past advertising copy.

What size engine does the kit come with? How many engines. More mechanical features please.

It says many parts. What parts?  Please put those little painted pictures up like on side of box.

They need to do things a different way.

What's up with all the info about the packaging.

The box is used as a 'paint booth' or flattened out to work on kit on.

Like how they are bringing out lots of kits but they could up their approach.

Box is designed as they were, back in our youth. Which is the way I like it. And it seems to be working for them.
Edit: Notice the link you shared, doesn't show the sides of the box. Yet iirc, it does indeed share most, if not all the "little painted pictures up like on side of box." Which you then decry that they "need to do things a different way."
So, which is it? You want the box like it was, with the "little pics", or do you want it done "a different way"?

Let me clarify this.

They should put less info in there about the boxes and more about what's IN THE BOX!

Supercharger? HD Rear End? 4 speed? Automatic?

Bucket seats? Tachometer? Console? Rollbar?

Body options? Spoiler? Custom grills? Wheels and tire? Slicks for drags?

Molded in white? What color?

Then there's the copy like in the old ad's.

'Build this '66 Nascar racer!' 'Feel the excitement of 200 mph racing!'

There selling excitement for little kids.

I look at the old boxes and ads to get a better feel for new kits out today.

I think the retro style boxes are cool. No real need to change them.

Yes.SHOW the painted pictures on the page.Nobody said change the pictures. You came up with that.

'I think the retro style boxes are cool. No real need to change them.'

For the second time. They need to spend LESS TIME talking about the box and MORE TIME saying what's in the box.

The emphasis should be on high performance parts and custom parts that come with the kit.

Round 2 is working hard to make the kits.

The ad copy just lays there kind of lifeless.

' You can click on the "Support" tab, then click on the instruction sheet for each kit and view all the parts '

That's right handy!

Constructive suggestions I've made still stand in spite of that.

They should highlight outstanding features of kit.

Pitch the kit a little.

I get what you are saying,  but they are marketing these kits to guys that built them as kids or young adults, so they figure that a majority of the buyers are gonna know whats included with the kit, so they are focusing on the rose color glasses with the box art instead.

I am not sure they are going to be making any changes anytime soon.

What Jonathan says, they're riding on the nostalgia train, heck they even re-box new releases of the '90s and early 2000s, in faux retro boxes.

Sounds like there is a consensus of 'Let's just leave it alone'. 'Let's not rock the boat'.

Well. Not good enough!

Take a look at this ad from '61.

Sure the model lineup now is available somehow on Round 2 site. That doesn't grab people with an idea.

They're showing the custom parts and an engine in this ad.

On other page they show prominently it's a Trophy kit. Actually part of the 'Trophy Team'.

Then it shows you different versions you can build with it.

The key here is 'showing' you.

Current website you bother to go to link and YOU DON'T SEE ANYTHING!

Don't know if that is intentional or what.

I really like the retro boxes and part lay out on the bottom. I hope they don't make any changes and their boxes keep their shape really good...

I quite frankly agree with both points of view. I like the retro art boxes, but then as now I find not knowing what parts come in the kit a little aggravating. It is an improvement having the silhouette picture of the kit parts on the bottom, but I would like is what some of the older kits that identified both the generic & brand name of the parts. This way its both informative & educational. I want to know what "optional race engine" I'm getting. I'm not knowledgeable enough to identify every engine, carburetor, blower, wheel, wheel manufacturer, etc. Not only would this be informative to me, I'm sure it would be a help to other, especially younger, persons just taking up the hobby. (This also goes for identifying parts by name, not just part # on the instruction sheet) And besides how is one to know what others are talking about if they don't have a working knowledge of the lingo. For example, there have been want ads posted here where someone is seeking a particular brand (Cragar, Halibrand ,etc.) wheel. I probably have them. I usually build stock replica, I won't use them, they could have them! But by not knowing whats what that ad won't be answered, at least not by me.

I'm not sure how to resolve this issue that would make everyone happy, except to suggest an addition to the instructions in the form of a parts callout throughout the steps &/or a parts inventory list, similar to what Revell does but w/ more detail (especially manufacturer callouts for after market accessories).

I was not aware that there was a site to view instruction sheets. Tools like this are useless if you don't know they exist. Certainly the Cats from AMT could note this in their ads and box bottoms.

Another one of "regular guys" rants that I don't get. I'm never sure where he's coming from with these posts he starts? Or what are the point of them is in the long run? I'm trying to stay away from anything he starts. It's just so hard. Am I missing something? Are other guys understand where he's going half the time with these? Help me understand?

Like the old adage

”You can’t judge a book by its cover, but you can sell a book by its cover”

Same with models. If it looks good, people are more likely to buy it, regardless of content.

As to Bob’s posts - yeah, rambling, incorrect and often incoherent, but read them with a poetic beat, maybe snap your fingers as you read them and wear a beret, and they make sense.

The box is shown on the page so there is no need for them to tell you more about it.

I am talking about the 'sell' pages at Round 2 listing the kit.

Suggestions are to instead say something like:

'Build the optional 421 engine with chrome headers and 2 4 barrel intake for more power!'

'Custom Halibrand racing wheels included!'

'Build your car and get it ready for the custom car show like the pros do!'

Sure the box is selling the kit but the pages about the kits should have new info.

One issue that has not been approached in this "discussion" is the fact Round 2 may  not realize exactly what is in the box.  The box cover may be of a factory stock kit, however there will be custom/speed parts from an earlier issue still on the sprues.  Many of the AMT/MPC/etc I have bought recently have had parts on the sprues that are not mentioned on the instruction sheet, but were parts of the original issue back when they were all 3-n-1's.
