Started this one when the kit first came out around, what, 1995? First order of business was to reprofile and recontour the dolphin-like front fender bulges. This was a LOT of careful, tedious work and resulted in pretty much a complete reshaping of the whole front end. How much work? Well, if I ever want to build another one, I will start with the Coupe kit, which does NOT have the front end shape problems, and convert it to a roadster. It will be easier. That's how much work it was.

That done, I was sick of looking at the thing and sentenced it to what turned out to be 15 years on the Shelf of Doom. Around 2012 I got tired of it stinking up the SOD and decided to drop-kick it through the goal posts and be done with it.

I do eventually want nice Marlboro Maroon '67 Vettes in both roadster and coupe, but decided this particular model wasn't worth the effort of getting the “real” paint, so just squirted it with Testor One Shot Mythic Maroon, several coats. The color isn't far off but of course it's much too flaky for factory paint. Interior is some kind of Krylon or Rustoleum or Walmart tan, I don't remember. “Good enough.”

The other main thing I remember from this build was the difficult final assembly. AFTER the body and chassis were mated, which wasn't too bad, nothing wanted to go right. The side exhausts, windshield, windshield frame and vent windows fought me every step of the way, and every time I thought I was done, I found two more parts to be glued on. Thought it would take me a half hour to do all this and it ended up taking most of a day. I never did mount the mirrors or door handles—finally just got tired of wrestling the beast to the ground and declared myself the winner and shot these pics and put it away.

I will always hate Revell for not including the optional hard top. There is no excuse for this!

As always, comments welcome--good, bad, and ugly. Come at me, bro! B)

That is a beauty, Rich .

Evokes a memory of an identical big block roadster pulling away from me at a light; you didn't just hear those pipes, you felt them through the seat and floorboards  B)

The "Shelf of Doom".  I love that.  Gotta get me one.  Much better than the concrete "wall of death" which is where some of my mistakes have gone. (at rather high velocities, I might add)

That being said, glad to see this S.O.D survivor - the end result was worth it.

Looks great! Always remember, one man’s shelf of doom may be another’s trophy case. Sometimes I enjoy it when the kit puts up a little bit of a fight.

I have to admit, I never noticed the front fenders before today. In my defense, the only time I built this kit was grafting it to a Corvair rear to turn into a '70s Batmobile, so factory accuracy was not high on my list of checks before I started in.

Nicely done, and thanks for letting us know the color!

With the reshaped fenders and the issues you had it turned out pretty nice !  The top is a little too shiny for my tastes but otherwise I like it . . . and you really should install the mirrors and door handles .  Very nice job  ! :)

Nice! Those re-shaped fenders make all the difference.

I didn't get them perfect, but they're hella better than what comes out of the box. Did this a couple years before I had internet and the ability to google-image a million pics of Vettes from every possible angle in two seconds. All I had to work with was the pics in a couple Corvette books, and a couple old AMT and MPC bodies for comparison. Turns out the AMT and MPC bodies aren't right either, they're just wrong in a prettier,  less eye-jarring way. Oh well, it is what it is. I'll do a "good" one someday.B)
