59 Impala Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 Here are more pics. Please remember that this is a custom which means any frame can be used along with anything else. The interior and chassis came from a 62 Pontiac Catalina cause it's a custom. Information for anyone who cares or not. She is finished. Dan
59 Impala Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 These are the last pictures and I must say, it was a lot of work and I really enjoyed "fixing" this car as Dave wished. Thanks fer putting up with me on this build. Dan
Bucky Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I think you've done a fantastic job on this rescue! The color is great, and the fixes you did look right on the mark! I like the clear lenses on the tailfins, too.
John Goschke Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) Nice save! I'm amazed at how quickly you turned this around! Edited August 24, 2018 by John Goschke
59 Impala Posted August 25, 2018 Author Posted August 25, 2018 Thanks guys for the kind words. This was a fun but challenge build for me. The guy who gave it to me was surprised at how it turned out and so was I. I wanted to build it as a stock Pontiac, but because of the horrible condition that it was in, I had to go with custom. At least it won't end up in the trash. Dan
Phirewriter Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 (edited) Nice! Great save! If you're into stuff like this you may want to look at a Facebook group called "Scale Survivors" Lots of really cool stuff that's a window into building history. Edited August 25, 2018 by Phirewriter
misterNNL Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 This project turned out really nice. I love to see those old kits brought back to life instead of scrapped. Thanks for sharing your skills with us.
cdgamble Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Beautiful job, and a very skillful job of patience. What a turnaround, thanks for sharing this
59 Impala Posted August 26, 2018 Author Posted August 26, 2018 Thanks a lot for the kind comments guys. I like repairing builds like this so they don't get thrown out. Plus, I learn a lot by trying to fix these builds. Always learning something new. Phirewriter, I will check them out. Thanks. Dan
Phirewriter Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Very cool to see something like this restored instead of just stripped, parted out or cast off to the junk box just because it was customized.
disabled modeler Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Nice work saving this old one. I have a 59 Buick convertible that was just like it for the most part....I restored it to factory stock and believe me it was a challenge. I had to re-scribe a lot of the trim on it but it came out nice.
59 Impala Posted August 26, 2018 Author Posted August 26, 2018 Thanks guys. Mark, can you post a picture of the Buick. I'd like to see it. I wanted to rebuild this stock before I saw what condition it was in. It was so bad that I didn't think that it could be done, so, I just used it as a custom. I think it turned out better this way and so did the guy that gave me the car.. Dan

59 Impala Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 Thanks guys. I have a few more to do, but, all of them are no where near this bad to start with. Dan
Sixties Sam Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Excellent work on this model! I'm glad to see old kits like this saved. Sam
59 Impala Posted August 29, 2018 Author Posted August 29, 2018 Thanks guys, this was a challenge and I liked what I had to do to "FIX" it as Dave (the guy who gave this to me) said that I had to "FIX" it. He liked how it turned out and said that I just might get another glue bomb to "FIX". I like this type of challenge though. Keeps the 'ol noggin working.
