Wow, the top six included 3 240Z's.  Did not expect that!

Nissan won the Safari Rally in '71 with a 240Z.

They also performed well on the Baja.

I am well aware of past success of the 240Z especially the BRE versions.  I bought a new one from a dealer in Sterling, Colorado in August of 1972 and took it to my first duty station in the Air Force.  I was just surprised to see three of them at the top of the list with all the other makes that ran the rally.

Pat, there was never any intention of this being a compedative CBP like the Cannonball, per the original post. My own build is still in the works and it will be completed eventually. Somewhere in this thread I nixed the end date for this build off, so anyone who still wants to build one or finish their WIP should feel free to post their work here, because I will be.

Again my apologies for dropping the ball as lead on this build off. Life doesn't seem to care that I'd rather be building models.

You did not drop the ball, I failed to read it properly or more likely, I read it and forgot. ?

I finished my P2P Beetle today. I think I might be violating one of the rules not running a front bumper but I really don't have any ideas and the stock bumper won't fit with the way I cut the fenders. I got the camping gear from a accessories set for diecasts but with a little work they cleaned up okay. I put coolers and a portable generator where the back seat would be, the silver box on the roof rack is for the tent. The set also had a shovel and a few other tools in case you get stuck or have an accident and need to rework the body in a pinch. I'm waiting on some fabric to make a cargo net for the rack but in the current situation there's no telling when it will get here.

I was hoping you would finish this one. I first saw it when you posted the “ in progress” pics during the build off,  and the look of that bug is awesome!! When I was in the Service, a guy in our unit had a bug set up like yours.??

Thank you, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The baja beetle idea was too good to let it die. Here a few more pics I forgot to post.

That looks terrific. Nicely done.

I hope to get back at mine during this Covid19 stay at home fiasco.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with it, it definitely stands out on the shelf.

Glad to see you persevere to the end on this Brian. Looks like it paid off and you got all the travel details covered. Good job!

Thanks guys! To me the camping gear was part of the challenge, finding a way to carry all the stuff you need to race across two continents.
